The is not a "fake screen" it is a piece of glass replacing the old glass cover for the screen. It is literally a piece of glass with an adhesive strip around the outside. As for the power issues, it may have a problem...but your batteries may not be making good contact, or may be low as well. Even if they came out of a new package there is a chance that they could be low. Who am I kidding, you bought it from Gamestop. You would have been better off buying it on eBay.

I have a pretty good memory, as far back as the day I received my Game Boy Advance in 2002, and NO Nintendo device has ever shipped with a screen protector. I can also confirm that BOTH my original 2002 unit and 2004 unit have power switch issues. This is a common problem with the original model as units are now more than 15 years old.

It's not a "fake" screen, they just replaced the piece of plastic on the top of the screen, probably because the original one was heavily scratched up ? (I wonder why they are not using a replacement with Game boy advance written on it however...) But apparently they didn't bother to clean the power switch. Just a small drip of alcohol in there and I bet it would turn on way more consistently. 50$ seems overpriced too.

Yes, the Gameboy can boot up without the game, so it must be something from the inside.

I repair these a lot and most on the time when it is acting like that when turning it on and off is due to a dirty switch making bad contact. Those switches are pretty fussy and if there’s ANY kind of corrosion or debris the switch will be shotty.

The best thing is to clean the battery contact points and make sure they are secure. If that doesn't fix it, there is a loose connection between the port and power supply. Probably from being dropped and banged around. Get a cheap soldering kit and open it up - it shouldn't be a hard fix.

Nice video ! Have you tried some different brands of battery ? My original GBA din't work well with some brands of battery (dont tell me why). P.S. That Need For Speed game is good. It shows that the GBA is not only a simple portable Snes. The GBA can run some decent looking true 3D games.

Thats an aftermarket screen lens for 1 thing (they make replacements that say gameboy advance like real ones so clearly gamestop is just being cheap/ignorant) 2 that power loop could be caused by the batteries you used. on the gba there is an overvoltage protection and while new AA batteries shouldnt exceed that its entirely possible that they did. either way its far from "refurbished" and I would even say its a completely fake knock off. only way to know for sure is to open it up and check the board. So glad gamestop is failing and will be going out of business soon.

Worn power switch... Very lazy on their part, it's pretty straight forward to restore that thing if you're patient and are somewhat skilled with a soldering iron. I actually restored one today and it went from powering on like 1 in 10 tries or less, to being as responsive as can be :)

I just bought a pre owned Wii U from gamestop and it was it was all dirty and the battery was swelled up, so I exchanged it for a "refurbished" one the console was all scratched up like someone took sand paper to it no joke, and the game pad had a aftermarket shell on it that didn't even say Wii U, so I went and exchanged it for another preowned one and finally I wound up with a good one no bad scratching and didn't look like it had any aftermarket parts and it worked fine.

i'd say return it, GBA goes for about 10-20 usd (can sometimes do better even, or with games). Not much real use for it with the DS lite and DS original able to play GBA games too. Only advantage it has is form factor and being able to play OG game boy and color games too. And the "weird port" is your gba link cable port (and also for some other accessories)

Dude that’s completely normal you have to take the gba apart then go to the power switch on the motherboard and get a q tip dipped in rubbing alcohol then take out the dirt usually the power switch is dirty and when it is the dirt gets in the way of the signal and takes a while to turn on I hope you haven’t returned it if you had done a little research you would’ve been fine

I Picked Up a Game Boy Advance (Platinum Edition) from Amazon Last Summer (July 23rd 2018 was when I Ordered it) when it came in the Mail July 26th It was in Excellent Condition and they Replaced the Screen with a New One I put 2 AA Batteries in, turned it on and it works perfectly fine without any problems so ever since I got it over the Summer I've been playing it all the time and been taking it with me During Car Rides and Trips I just love that System I love it I love it I love it I love it
