I took the predictable but awesome plunge and bought myself a 2021 Honda CRF300L dual sport. I have only owned it for a few days and I am already loving this little adventure bike. Feel free to post questions you would like answered for a future vid. Such as, how does it compare with the Yamaha WR250R and Suzuki DRZ400. For now enjoy a quick video on why I bough the CRF300L and what I think so far and what I have planned for the little motorcycle in the future.

I have a couple questions you can confirm or discuss in your review video ,seat height is it the lower seat height like in Thailand or taller like here in the USA, gas mileage nobody's really said anything, power and power delivery compared to other dual sports you've had on the channel, seating position comfortable, gearing from the factory for on and off road, dash layout, thanks

Congrats on the bike, you'll love it! I went for a 200 km 5 hour ride on my 2019 250 Rally on Saturday. Sixty km on the highway to a village I've only ever passed straight through before, 80 km of noodling around exploring including on and around a railway line disused for decades that the NZ government just announced plans to reopen, then a break at a cafe in an old railway station and talking to people at the rail museum there (and checked out inside a 1949 diesel loco as they put it away and shut down), then a very twisty gravel road through mountains and forest, then 60 km home on a different (mostly) highway. 3rd gear incidentally is perfect for those very tight gravel roads -- you can drop down to 18-20 km/h on the off-camber outside wheeltrack on blind corners, then blast to 70, 80, even 90 (briefly) to the next corner, without changing gear. The torque is just perfect for this because you *can* spin the back wheel up, but it's easy to keep on the point of not quite doing it. Would 286 cc be better than 249.6 cc. I guess. For sure not enough to spend thousands upgrading to a new model from the cheap runout deal I got 13 months ago (AU$6750 US$4150 on the road). I'd rather spend money on a rear shock for what I have now. But I haven't bothered yet. D606 tyres are the only change so far. When it was a 250 people said it should be 300. Now it's "300" people say it should be 350. If it was 350 people would say it should be 400. Whatever. Just f***ing ride. My other bike is an 1100 boxer I've had for 25 years. No reason to upgrade that either, it's perfect. Just maintain it. Fuel economy: www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/honda/crf250l_rally_abs/2019/brucehoult/1002918

Congrats CoS, the look on your face says it all! I think Honda have improved it enough (-weight & +power) to make it worthwhile as a starting point to make it into what you want...at the price point a suspension upgrade is feasible. And the reliability and smoothness that have already been proven with the 250.

Well, excellent choice! I’ve got 1.500 km on mine so far and after a suspension upgrade it perfect for me. One thing I would like to mention is, that it’s a perfect bike for the city as well (if not the best I’ve ever had). I usually go straight to my office in the morning and choose the more challenging routes back home in the afternoon. Great fun!

Congratulations from Texas. I have several motorcycles to choose from in my own stable. But I happen to like this little bike as well. And yes, my drz400e is screaming it's heart out at 70 mph. The e model in the US is off-road only and it fulfills that duty quite well. In the US it has a close ratio transmission which is great in the dirt, I think it would be pitiful on the road. I'm sure your audience is happy for you and feel proud for your purchase of the Honda crf300l. It is a beautiful bike... I think it is calling my name.

Very happy with my Rally! Watched your videos before it was released in U.S. Extremely helpful! For others reading comments, I'm 5'8 155lbs. 30 inch inseam and the Rally fits fine. I had been worried that it might be too tall. While I don't flat foot it, I'm comfortable and stable, even on tight single track. I also really love the suspension. It soaks up the bumps. However, I can see how it would feel too soft for a heavier rider. My teenage son has a CRF 250F and we're having a blast riding together.

Congrats on the new bike. It was at the top of my list by I just didn’t want to wait for it here in the USA. Bad enough it has taken TEARS for them to even decide to release the 700 Tenere here. I was lucky enough to just be able to pick up a 2021 DR650 and believe me that was even hard to find. I will see how it goes on the DR and if I find it too cumbersome I will sell it and get something smaller.

Congratulations! If it's anything like my CRF250L You'll love it. I'm already a month into my four and a half month US mainland trip, and I've found almost everything people say the bike can't do, is bull I'm 20lbs over gross vehicle weight, and have only bottomed out once. If you know how to ride ,you be amazed at what this bike can do. The 300 will be nice on the road, but that doesn't mean the 250 can't do it, it can. Ive been riding it for days at 60mph without a problem. I know it might be slow for some of you, but it's about the ride, not getting there. Were talking about a bike with more than 27,000 miles on it. Good choice! I don't think you'll regret it.

Throw a G2 throttle tamer on there if you haven’t already. Helped my WR in slow technical a lot. You reach full throttle faster as the uptake of throttle ramps up faster after 1/2 throttle than stock but much slower in that initial twist of throttle. Cost 65$. Install took 5 minutes.

I've been looking at suspension and basically a rear spring to suit your weight and some heavier springs and thicker oil for the forks should do the trick my guess less than a grand will see it improved ! I wouldn't be surprised if Rally-raid come out with a complete kit soon !!

@@vince38curious2 keep in mind that Solid owned a WR250R previously and a simple re-valve could transform its suspension. I doubt springs and oil will suffice in the long run. Stock springs are likely in the ball park for his weight. The parts bin budget suspension components on the crf being replaced with quality items for those who are doing more than cruising around on gravel roads will be the ticket. Cost and effectiveness of that ticket will be interesting. Since he has owned a WR250R I'm sure there would be interest in a comparison in-between the two by someone who isn't scared to be objective and critical of weak points unlike other reviewers who are reluctant to do so as they rely on just the positives and glossing over weak points to be able to obtain bikes to review from manufacturers.

I did my first oil change with the Motul 7100T 10w-30. Big difference. More horsepower and higher revs. Try it. Full synthetic.

Really a great machine for exploring uncharted territory. Not the best at anything, but just good enough for almost everything. I loved the 250L I had, except for the gearing, which they seemed to have fixed.

Good man Solid, glad you got one, they look great and will run for years, no problems, typical Honda. I almost went that route myself and then decided the CB 500X was better for me. Actually, one of the reasons was the 300L had the standard lights here in North America instead of the LED setup. And the CB500X had the LED, street bias was good in my case as well. I look forward to seeing you upgrade the suspension. Like the new logo.

Rear shock to replace on our two Rallys. It is too soft, but I think that's all we need, and some BarkBusters or similar.

I've been debating this or klx300 for a low maintenance dualsport to do minor offroading and light camping with road capability but kinda holding out to see if Yamaha redoes the wr250r with it removed from lineup now.

Congrats on the bike! I'm curious how it compares to your wr250r. I have one and I'm wondering if the 300l will be an upgrade. How does the weight and power compare to the wr250r? Thanks!
