Major difference though...how many '59s that are playable do you see for sale...pretty much zero... whereas there ard 10 real klons for sale on Reverb..right now.. today...well I presume they are not fake..so hard to tell...so they really are not that rare... .. bear in mind it has taken the '59 nearly 60 years to get to that value...so I reckon Chris will be about 90 when his investment comes good....😉

The Klon mythos was definitively put to rest for me when I watched a Shnoble video comparing a ProCo Rat to a Klon KTR. Between 8 o'clock and noon on the Rat, it was indistinguishable from the Klon. The Centaur going for the prices it does is sheer derangement. I'm one of those like Bill, who was fed up with the bass and treble shelving of typical TS style drives, but I easily achieved the goal of a transparent overdrive that just sounds like my amp driving a bit, with a Way Huge Green Rhino MkII which has extra controls that allows me to match the EQ to my amp's tone.
@cassianandor41033 жыл бұрын
I saw a video by Music Is Win, if you know that channel you'll know who I'm talking about, if not check it out. Anyways on the video he compares a real Klon to a clone he bought off of wish for around 50 bucks and the Wish centaur sounds basically the same.

@@CJZM7777 I think the point Chris is making is that "it's an investment"...little to do with how it sounds. Don't forget that there's people out there who buy vintage guitars for an investment and they can't play a note...almost ! For those of us that actually play, then we just think it's nuts! Thanks so much for shedding some light on the whole "transparent overdrive" thing that I hear so much about. I never understood how overdriving a signal to the point of clipping and beyond could be transparent. But, as you point out Chris, this pedal can function as a clean boost at low levels of gain that doesn't engage the clipping diodes. A little boost always sounds better, especially at bedroom volumes. And great playing as usual!

Now, in your extremely well articulated ‘feature’ here - you cut through all the ‘hype’ bs so straight, and then go on to make your point that that ‘hype’ is the only real remaining reason why one should ever consider buying one of these pedals at the moment. Two thumbs up, man! … truth be told, you helped me to finally take the call and pull the trigger on investing in one.😂 And.. oh… Your playing… does one really need to comment on that!? Nah!❤

Chris - great video as always. I have a bunch of klones (Ryra, Nordvang etc) and also a rather battered non-horsie Klon. I loved Josh’s video about the actual magic not happening if u only use it as a clean boost on low gain. I also liked his point about it being fun that there’s a mystique around the original, even if it’s total rubbish. As an owner, I definitely enjoy the dynamics that the Klon provides, and I don’t claim that it’s “better” than the klones. I’ve stacked it with loads of low gain drives, and with lots of them it sounds “meh”. Then, just occasionally, you get the right combo of pedals, guitar and amp, and it sounds epic. I honestly don’t mind if it’s “better” or not; it certainly adds some dynamics and it’s nice to try/own the real thing. You can always sell it! People get very annoyed about the cost, but no one has to buy an original - just get a Centura. An original 59 LP Burst is $250k++, so if you can afford silly money for a pedal (CB Tomatotone has entered the chat), then enjoy.
