Now you have seen the wizard behind the screen! There are no magic pedals. There are only talented musicians who play relentlessly for untold hours to reach the peak. I originally wanted to dislike Chris, but then I realized 1. He shares my namesake, and 2. it was only envy. I tripped over my laces at the same point you did I think, right before the clean boost demo. Ha!

The Les Paul sound, to me, is the ultimate. And in the hands of a player of the caliber of this young man, so mind-blowing because he's so gifted with what I call the "touch"..he literally wrings every bit of joy out of each note he plays. I could imagine if Chris was transported back to 1967...playing through a new Plexi...

You're spot on with the parallels between the Klon and a Burst. I can't see the Klon ever reaching such prices but I don't think anyone thought a '59 would cost more than your average house when they discontinued it in '60! 😬😬
@bassmandudge
@bassmandudge 3 жыл бұрын
Major difference though...how many '59s that are playable do you see for sale...pretty much zero... whereas there ard 10 real klons for sale on Reverb..right now.. today...well I presume they are not fake..so hard to tell...so they really are not that rare... .. bear in mind it has taken the '59 nearly 60 years to get to that value...so I reckon Chris will be about 90 when his investment comes good....😉

Humble? Dropping a couple of grand on a distortion pedal, and subsequently making a KZbin video to brag to the world that you've just done so is anything but humble behaviour.....do you even know the meaning of the f*cking word? 😆 If anyone wants to blow stupid money on a distortion pedal then that's their choice, but I wouldn't even spend that kind of money on a guitar let alone a poxy pedal 😆

@@JammyGit The man is a professional guitarist who has a YT channel about guitar playing. I don’t think it’s far off to say many of his subscribers would be interested in seeing a video on the Klon and that he just got one. Not really sure how anything in this video came off as stuck up or gloating. He simple got something cool and wanted to share with people. I’m struggling to find fault in any of that, so I’m really not getting where you’re coming from.

@@JammyGit Christ! This from the bloke who describes himself as "a bespoke artisan coffee roaster." Yeah, I bet your poncy coffee isn't overpriced much, either! 🤣 I must have missed the bit where he was bragging. I did, however, clearly hear him say that it's a ludicrous price to pay for a pedal and that he bought it purely because he sees it as a potential investment. I've watched a lot of Chris Buck, over the last couple of years. I've seen him interviewed and watched him squirm at the praise he receives for his undoubted skills...and I've only ever seen him be self deprecating. Your gear has changed a ton since then and although it's awesome to upgrade, you didn't need to. This isn't a negative comment so please don't take it that way. Opposing to popular belief, Stevie used TS-10’s for the last 4 years he played. I noticed this about 20 years ago when I watched ACL from 1989 and I kept rewinding it and there it was! A TS10! I bought one and it became my only mainstay on my board for about 8 years. Shouldn’t have sold it. Everyone says Mayer, but he was only following the King, as did I at a young age. The Klon mythos was definitively put to rest for me when I watched a Shnoble video comparing a ProCo Rat to a Klon KTR. Between 8 o'clock and noon on the Rat, it was indistinguishable from the Klon. The Centaur going for the prices it does is sheer derangement. I'm one of those like Bill, who was fed up with the bass and treble shelving of typical TS style drives, but I easily achieved the goal of a transparent overdrive that just sounds like my amp driving a bit, with a Way Huge Green Rhino MkII which has extra controls that allows me to match the EQ to my amp's tone.

I saw a video by Music Is Win, if you know that channel you'll know who I'm talking about, if not check it out. Anyways on the video he compares a real Klon to a clone he bought off of wish for around 50 bucks and the Wish centaur sounds basically the same.

@terryhicks4038
@terryhicks4038 3 жыл бұрын
@@CJZM7777 I think the point Chris is making is that "it's an investment"...little to do with how it sounds. Don't forget that there's people out there who buy vintage guitars for an investment and they can't play a note...almost ! For those of us that actually play, then we just think it's nuts! But a Lowry minimalist painting won't necessarily get bought because the buyer thinks it's a masterpiece, but it might get stuck in a vault somewhere as a pure investment.
@Atttuner

Thanks so much for shedding some light on the whole "transparent overdrive" thing that I hear so much about. I never understood how overdriving a signal to the point of clipping and beyond could be transparent. But, as you point out Chris, this pedal can function as a clean boost at low levels of gain that doesn't engage the clipping diodes. A little boost always sounds better, especially at bedroom volumes. And great playing as usual!

This is the most interesting and insightful video on this pedal available on the internet now… the internet didn’t need another ‘comparison’ blah blah…. Now, in your extremely well articulated ‘feature’ here - you cut through all the ‘hype’ bs so straight, and then go on to make your point that that ‘hype’ is the only real remaining reason why one should ever consider buying one of these pedals at the moment. Two thumbs up, man! … truth be told, you helped me to finally take the call and pull the trigger on investing in one.😂 And.. oh… Your playing… does one really need to comment on that!? Nah!❤

Chris - great video as always. I have a bunch of klones (Ryra, Nordvang etc) and also a rather battered non-horsie Klon. I loved Josh’s video about the actual magic not happening if u only use it as a clean boost on low gain. I also liked his point about it being fun that there’s a mystique around the original, even if it’s total rubbish. As an owner, I definitely enjoy the dynamics that the Klon provides, and I don’t claim that it’s “better” than the klones. I’ve stacked it with loads of low gain drives, and with lots of them it sounds “meh”. Then, just occasionally, you get the right combo of pedals, guitar and amp, and it sounds epic. I honestly don’t mind if it’s “better” or not; it certainly adds some dynamics and it’s nice to try/own the real thing. You can always sell it! People get very annoyed about the cost, but no one has to buy an original - just get a Centura. An original 59 LP Burst is $250k++, so if you can afford silly money for a pedal (CB Tomatotone has entered the chat), then enjoy.

It has the same tone as your presets. It’s in your fingers man. You have a definitive tone.

I love my klon, for recording it’s all I need for session work. When playing live on top of the right overdrive which for me is a protein pedal at the mo! Killer. Bit of a shame they have become so expensive. Everyone should have the pleasure 🙏🙏🙏
