The best thing about damaged box Lego sets is that they make a treasure trove for those of us that enjoy actually BUILDING their Lego rather than just collect MISB sets, or for those of us MOCing and on the lookout for obscure bricks that were found in few sets only. Then the MISB crowd can keep their high $ virgin Lego sets for themselves

I got some Legos from Bulq a couple of years ago, all that were expensive sets. All had box damage and had been opened, had "a lot" of pieces missing, etc. Every single box had all of the mini figures missing, but one lone little figure. One box even had old Legos taped up in the original plastic bags. What people will do to get free Legos and then return the box to the store for a refund, claiming it had missing pieces! I was so excited to be able to even get them, only to be disappointed. At least my son enjoyed all of them.

Thing to watch out for in the Lego sets is if they’re returns. There’s been a significant uptick in folks buying sets, extracting the minifigs and maybe some other valuable parts, resealing the bags and boxes, and then returning them claiming they’re unopened. Looking at the condition of a lot of those, I suspect you’re right that they were damaged in the warehouse, rather than being returns, but it’s getting increasingly hard to tell if a set has been opened and returned. ☹️

Licensed sets have some exclusive figures and there are scumbags out there that will buy Lego sets, remove the minifigures and return the sets. Hopefully they are just damaged boxes bc if the figs arent there the value goes way down

You can also make money off selling the individual Lego bricks if you have incomplete or loose ends. People like getting instructions from master builders or old discontinued sets and buying them piece by piece. I’ve done it - Lego kinetic sculptures are awesome.

instructions are worth recycling bin packing… would not touch a opened lego set for more then 25% of its original value, too risky, those sets were the result of “frustration free” shipping by Amazon, so you get a premium product that looked like someone did a square dance on top of in high heels and then they get returned to Amazon with 150% frustration guaranteed
