Ok fun story: when I was young I actually had the PSP knockoff 2. We were broke as fuck and my parents couldn’t afford a PSP at the time. This was 2011. I got mine under the brand name “JCV”. That knockoff hasn’t changed a single bit in over a decade, down to the menus and all. Amazing. Got made fun of at school. Didn’t fucking care a bit tho, I loved that thing to death. All I cared about was the fact that mine had Contra, Super Mario Bros., and Pokémon Red. Didn’t drop frames. EDIT: Mine had a camera. 0.1mp VGA camera.

That Sonic game is a hack of an infamous port of Sonic to the Famicom called "SoMari". The original had Sonic levels and gameplay, but a Mario sprite instead of Sonic for some reason. Someone hacked it to be just Sonic instead.
@kidwolf00153 ай бұрын
Didn't it also have a plot in the final level where Mario saves a bunch of Sonics trapped in cages which ends with a super campy message about how much Mario and Sonic love each other now that "they're best friends"? Or was that another "Mario-in-Sonic" style rom hack? Edit: So, my memory is really dumb. It's not SoMari, but "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" for the SNES. Also, the roles are reversed. Sonic has to save the caged Marios. Also they're described as "good friends forever" that "nobody can separate".... .... and I forgot that the last part was "Sonic LOVES Nintendo. Mario LOVES SEGA." I remembered it vaguely enough to capture its craziness at least, right? XD
@BetaJJ009x3 ай бұрын
@mjdxp5688 SoMari was considered to be the one of the worst of so-called "pirated" games for the NES. As you've mentioned, a dedicated fan had hacked the game to make it a feasible demake of Sonic 1, and since then, it had gotten updates to where it looks so damn good. I looked inside the cartridge and it was just a tiny PCB that connects 2 pins of the cartridge slot -- rather than a pluggable ROM it was just a switch that activates more stuff stored on the internal chip. That made me wonder if there were any cartridges for it that I didn't have, so I looked at the PCB and saw what connector pins went to anything, and if I recall I found / "created" one additional cartridge by putting a wire between a different pair of pins.

I genuinely don't understand why anyone would buy these. Not even a small child would find these fun in the slightest. Classic games can be a lot of fun if they're not poorly hacked and stuck into a cheap plastic container with the sound quality of a watch beeper.

The Famicom Sonic game is a pirate port and not a ROM hack.

One of my pet peeves honestly is when people who aren't as familiar with them call bootleg/pirate original games a "ROM hack" or "homebrew." I see it very often.

@@thepirategamerboy12 For me, it's people who make pirate game videos, doing nothing for research or worse, spreading misinformation. One such example that comes to my mind is ConnerTheWaffle. In one of his videos, he mentioned that the NES Plant vs Zombies bootleg was made in Russia, but it was actually made by a company in Xi'an, China. (the company being Nice Code.)

That poke Tetris thing seems to be based on the Tengen Tetris on the NES (which is also common multicart sight, usually under the name of Tetris II).

the last handheld you showcased actually has a ton of revisions, i have one that was designed to look like a nintnedo switch, it uses an almost identical ui and branding, yours is the x6 and mine is the x19

i want to note the first 2 handhelds you used werent using software emulation... they were using a NOAC Nes on a Chip its basically a hardware clone (not perfect) of the nes and isnt exactly emulation so ofcourse the pooey 3rd handheld you had was running nes worse than those because its emulating... though there are definitely way better 40 dollar handhelds on both temu and aliexpress
@MichaelMJD3 ай бұрын
Yes, I'm aware of that. Those were portable Famiclones. The second PSP was not and was emulating the games.

8:21 I didn't expect a Nokia phone battery. I thought the marketing team just googled a generic rechargeable battery and stumbled upon that picture.

Dang, I wanted to see what chips were under the micro's screen. 8 pin EEPROM or NAND flash. The 'Cool Baby' 620 in 1s had more games, I think. Including Pac Man 3 with with corrupt level 9, which I fixed in a video.

When you were going through the bandicoot settings menu on the X6, one of the options was full screen. Like FS? You can window it? On that. Also the menu format / structure reminds me a lot of RetroArch meets 2000s media player.

i had the same exact X6 PSP knockoff but with a different software and branding during my teen years, it was the first thing i bought after getting my first ever salary and i enjoyed that thing for what it was. i remember going to computer shops to download a shit ton of GBA games. the microSD support was what made it extremely flexible to use and used it i did, the little shit was basically my daily driver for media player and music listening. that little bugger continued to entertain me for the foreseeable two year time after before it inevitably broke down due to wear and tear. 10/10 chinese bootleg, great thing for what it was.

1:40 they were like: "Ah it's fine! Who needs that many screenshots? Spoiled people!?" Which sort of makes sense because they want you to figure out what those games are yourself!😂

"nes classic" Is literally a "NES-in-a-chip", no need more circuits, but is possible modding if can "drill" the epoxy of chip

In the instance of the X6 console, I'd likely rom-dump onto a different machine with more capable hardware to run them. Example: There was an untested one of these "5000 in 1" consoles (as a micro set top version) for $3.99 at a thrift store: it didn't power on when supplied with power, it was missing the controllers as well, but inside was a 64GB microSD filled to the gills with ROMS across nearly every early console, so I just copied and pasted to a spare 2010 MacBook Pro using a microSD to SD adapter, then formatted the SanDisk Ultra card and used it for my dashcam since it was fast enough. The roms are now sorted by system and searchable, and I can use my own controllers on a much larger included 13" screen, with the option to _Lightning to HDMI_ an even larger screen for 2 player (or multiplayer with a USB hub).

PSP knockoff 2. I have the model with the camera! It sucks. I got it a few years ago, it looks like yours has an updated version of the software. Mine can only play GBA roms in my experiments.
