Looking forward to more videos. Bore scoring may be seen more because of the 10% ethanol in your gas. The M97 engines were made to run 5% maximum ethanol. Best action is to run non-ethanol that is usually 91 octane and add correct amount of Race Gas to raise octane to 93. Oil sample testing is an additional way to help judge engine health.

I'm sure you know this, on a 996 you have to scope it through the sump to see the full extend of bore scoring. I'm rebuilding an LN Engineering re-sleeved 3.6 to 4.0 M96 engine on my channel. Luckily no bore scoring. Just abused in Florida with 102K miles. I got Jake Raby in my corner for the assembly too. You should check it out. New video tonight. Carrier into the crankcase. IMS next week.

I have a 2006 cayman s in yellow. I have yet to run into another one with the same coloring in western canada...im sure they are out there but seem less common. Does anyone know how many of each color were made by year? Thanks

I bought the base 2.7 purely because of the bore scoring issues in the 3.4. I sacrifice 50bhp, but I have peace of mind.

I'm in the same boat as you for that exact same reason. Guy up the road from me bought an S 2 weeks prior to me getting my base. His is now away getting an engine rebuild due to the scoring.

@@popeye9048 people forget the base still has the same BHP as a 964 911. The Cayman S I think is just a little more glamorous to some. I've got all the power I need in the base model.

Engine noise ticking. Whilst idling you will hear a loud tick as the pistons go up and down.

@@gus8378 ahh, I think Nathan did elaborate later. With this model, generally accompanied with exhaust smoke means you have bore scoring. Cylinder bores are screwed and they leak oil. Like big cat scratches up the cylinder walls.

All of these Porsche's are beautiful, however they require INSANE amounts of maintenance. If an american car (CORVETTE) required this much maintenance it would be called a P.O.S. I'll stick with my NISSAN 350Z...
