One of the most humble and down-to-earth mechanic channels I have ever seen; and I indeed enjoyed every single episode he filmed. Skoda is indeed very much underrated these days and would not interest snobbery at all. I gave up my Beemer 7 series for a Kodiaq, regretted very much for my late decision. I used to drive a 17 plate Octavia and a few 18/19/20 plate Superbs, their boot size is mini van alike capable of bringing a fridge home with the boot shut!

As you said in the video, it was listed a few times on Copart. I saw it on there 4 or 5 weeks ago, did the basic history checks and decided against it because the front end looked doctored up. If the letter after the lot number on the window sticker was C or Q (its sometimes hard to see in the pictures), it was definitely a private entry. I hope you don't uncover loads more damage under the bumper. On the subject, I reckon the caps match the rest of the car (Candy White) and the bumper is the wrong paint code (possibly Moon White metallic). I think you got lucky finding the gearbox for that price, I wouldn't be surprised if the clutch and flywheel kit cost more than that! For £7.5k there's not a lot that can beat it though, I'm currently in an 2014 XC60 D5 R Design with Polestar and £12k of options that owes me £6.5k, it was on Copart for about 2 months but the insurance company let me have it after I rejected 3 of their counter bids. It was Cat N with 9mph front corner damage and I was really lucky to get a bumper & wing in the same colour. It was back on the road 11 days later and to my amazement, it was a mint car with really good service history and a previous owner that really took care of it.

With DPF, I used Mannol DPF cleaner on an audi TT that was over the regen limit. It dropped the soot level low enough for a forced regen to work. It's fairly accessible on that engine, should be able to do it from above.

I think they do still make cars like this Ian. They called Octavia 2, 3, & 4! OK, they get more complicated but its a lovely well thought out car. Having been a fan of 3 series Beemers from as far back as 86, I became divorced from BMW when they left owners with catastrophic engine damage after their no maintenance timing chains stretched beyond the capacity of the tensioner. My diesel engine ended in big chunks of metal in the sump. So, since then (2015), I've never looked back after driving the Octavia mk2. I maintain it myself too, which is not too bad with the Haynes manual. One just has to look beyond the pipes and sensors and realise that underneath its an engine. It is however, those sensors that are the biggest plague you are likely to suffer. Its just one or two things that keep popping up in the forums like the over rotating flap motor P2015 error that denies your car an MOT pass. Not hard to solve once you go beyond the cryptic messages in the DTC code checking tools. Manifold flap motor my friends. He is your biggest enemy to having fun with your Octy. Apart from that, when you've done a lot of miles, you'll need to clean your DPF. Not nearly as bad as it sounds though. A mobile mechanic can pop over and get it out for you and just £25 and a lot of water, you can clean it and save over £100 using some service you don't know how effective it is. I've just actually explained this below as to how I did mine. Have fun.

Paint damage absolutely everywhere like parking damage, chips in places where no one would have thought that stones would get there... Stickers from the previous owner that cannot be removed, because it was a care service car. But technically the car is a dream and that's where I put my money. The car looks really rough and no one would expect that the car has notoriously been serviced and cared for.

Congrats on the 100k subs! Re DPF you could try doing the procedure in VCDS for installing a new DPF. That will trick the system and let you do forced regens. Do that plus add some DPF cleaning product in the exhaust system through the temp sensor hole and you may have successful results. It is a long shot but I can say from experience I had good result and avoided DPF replacement. Hope that helps! Cheers

Mines a 2.0 TDI also and I use an android app called VAGDPF to help monitor my DPF levels. Its also handy to see the status of a regen as it gives your a percentage bar from when its full to clean. I always continue my journey until until the regen finishes, usually no longer than 5-10 minutes.

I had a 2008 Octavia Scout 2.0 diesel (not the common rail variant). After replacing worn out camshaft after 220000 miles, DPF got completely clogged, so much so that it was behaving as a 50 hp car instead of 140. No power whatsoever, couldn't even reach 55 mph. I drove it for a hundred miles before I had any power back. Full throttle, 55 mph on the highway lol. After another hundred it felt like a maaaybe an 80 hp car. Only then I went to the dealership and they connected the laptop, similarly to what you've done here, but they actually instructed me to drive and keep the engine between 2000 and 2500 rpm. After that everything cleaned up nicely and the car behaved like new. They said I've done the best part of the cleaning job by driving it couple hundred miles. Sold it at around 240k miles, and the guy that bought it off of me still uses it great. Dunno if any of this applies to the newer engine you've got here, but I thought I'd share my experience.

It was sometimes slow to drop a gear when I wanted to jump lanes from standing still for example. The manual was a much better option. Overall the specification and size of the wagon was excellent. Soot is measured from the DPF pressure sensor. So it’s just a calculation. You’ll need to make sure the pressure sensor is working properly if it’s not then will need replacing it possible the pipes from the DPF have issues. You can clean the DPF on the car with the right tools and fluid 👌🏽👍🏽 after cleaning reset the DPF values and will be possible To do a static regen or a dynamic one of the soot level is low enough after cleaning 👌🏽 Basically make sure the pressure sensor is working and reading correctly using a mityvac 👌🏽👍🏽

With BMW diesel engines you can resolve DPF issues which prevent forced regen by just driving the car on open roads for an hour or so. That naturally regenerates the DPF and after you get backpressure low enough you can invoke the forced regen to really burn off the soot. Also, on BMW engines, having glow plug faults, and probably other faults, can block forced regen so try clearing fault codes too. In fact, on my previous BMW 535d, I had to drive along with “request regeneration” enabled and continuously clear the excess backpressure fault code every 30 seconds or so in order to maintain the regen long enough to get on top of the problem. Basically every time I squeezed the throttle it detected excess backpressure and disabled regen. After 30 mins of this it was able to maintain regen and cleared out all the soot. Obviously I wasn’t operating a laptop while driving so you’ll need a passenger for that.
@stefan2meter
@stefan2meter Жыл бұрын
I did a forced regen past weekend using OBDeleven. A broken wire in the maf connector caused the car (2009 A6 Allroad 3.0tdi) to not regen while driving. I was told oil temp should be 70°C or higher, soot level no more than 60gr (chance of vehicle catching fire). Mine was at 36gr, so can’t be sure the limit is not 40gr. I replaced the broken wire but struggled to get it to work due to differing descriptions of how to do it, found it wouldn’t start a regen after a failed attempt UNLESS I stopped and restarted the engine. It was then just a matter of following instructions (‘press brake’ ‘release’, ‘press accelerator’ and ‘release’) and it sat at 1000-1200rpm iirc for about half an hour in the driveway… reached 660°C! So… when you have a dpf, don’t drive around for a few days 🤣

As a past Volkswagen technician when we would put diesel vehicles into forced regeneration. We would test drive the car with the software running (ODIS) until prompted it was complete or when the “Glow Plug” light would shut off. The same should apply to this Skoda, I’m from the US so we don’t have these vehicles but it’s basically a Volkswagen at the end of the day. They are a great car very versatile, as for dpf always take of the egr valve as it contributes to blocking them so would benefit from a clean too and don't remove dpf buy cleaner in a can which breaks down the soot making regeneration easier I use it every time

The shape is very similar to a MK5 Golf estate that I owed once..You can see similarities in most estates made by the VW group... I'm a big fan of the Skoda range, Superb cars..Long gone are the days when Lada -skodas being used in the same sentence..😆😆..

The best car! And how nice you still have the other Octavia RS. I have the same. 285.000 km (only 2.0 TFSI). Looks like new and amazing how big that boot is. Many more happy miles with these vehicles. Škoda Octavia RS ❤️

45g I think is the limit for a forced regen, and ash content will just skyrocket after each attempted regen when driving, 80g them is essential car shut down/limp home mode and needing full replacement. As for the stop start error, check the plug on the gear box, the wires have no slack in them and often nip just at the base of the plug

Gearboxes usually lose first and second, probably similar problem with the selector fork inside the box wanting bolting back on. People can fix it for you cheap if you take the box out for them ready. Something you can do yourself if you want to have a go.

Take the dpf off and poor in 5l of patio degreaser leave for an hour and pressure wash out. Then add 5l of brick acid and leave for a couple of hours and pressure wash out again. Total cost about £15 from tool station and you will have a nice clean dpf again.

I've never really looked at an octavia vrs before but I like the look of them. I have a 2011 mondeo titanium x estate 2.0d for the same reason, brilliant daily, massive boot for the dog or shopping. Clutch is on its way out now though and it's a pig of a job to do 🤣

You might want to check the header tank, if it has MIT SILIKAT printed on it it will probably contain a bag, look at the colour of the coolant it ought to be pink(ish) these bags are known to split and end up clogging the heating system, Skoda want, I think, around £1300 -£1600 from Joe Public to sort it out. I have a 66 plate 2.0 diesel not a VRS, the bag in mine was ok but I still changed the tank for one without the bag this time last year at a cost of £27.50, you might want to bear this in mind moving forward

Great video, I love the skodas, owning a taxi business I have a fleet of them, try other brands but always turn bk to skaoda, shocked about the box, thay usually bomb proof. Going off tomorrow to see a cheap superb, wish me luck

I fixed the DPF on my 145k BMW 320d by just driving down the road using INPA on my laptop, which you need to know German and have a degree to operate, to watch the EGT temps, when they climbed to 500-550degrees I knew a regen was trying to start, the DPF light would come on, exhaust temp would come down, and the regen would stop. I hit the reset button to clear the codes as soon as the light came on and kept on driving at 60mph in 4th gear until the DPF light stopped coming on and the regen carried on. You really need to give the engine some load to get the temperature hot enough to burn off the carbon, I wouldn't trust it just idling at 1krpm on a driveway! Got it up to 188k before I sold it after that. Looks like you'll need to find 4th in that chocolate box first to do it though!

check if the ac is running properly. if not, together with these other errors (start stop, and dpf), it can mean the outside thermometer is not working, therefore it won't let you start the dpf regen.

Been running Skodas for years currently on my 2nd Kodiaq, but if I had to go £7k I agree with you an Octy Estate is the do it all, but I would select the Scout rather than Vrs same engine line ups though the higher bhp only comes in DSG but Scout has 4x4, had a Mk 2 and my dad currently runs a Mk3 Scout same load lugging capacities with the ability to go off road, looking forward to more of this car!
