I had a large wooden planter sloped out at the top. Lined it with aluminum foil, topped with a piece of glass (taped edges). Have cooked in it for 15 years. Things don't burn or dry out. I mostly cook in a black pot like a slow cooker, but it bakes too. I live in the NM mountains, sun 300 days per year.

Food for thought on the glass... I saved the glass doors from an old TV stand, the edges are beveled/smooth. An old stereo unit or similar will also have these tempered doors so not as fragile as plain glass.

After I watched this video a few years ago I bought the inexpensive foil model. I don't remember the details of my test but it got a mug of water extremely hot in very little time! I keep it permanently in my vehicle now because whether camping or in an emergency, if you've got some sun it would be a great way to warm up some water to drink or wash with!

When I was doing construction in Kansas, I took an aluminum cake pan, put a piece of 3/4" double foil faced insulation in the bottom of the pan with the top side painted flat black. I could put a TV dinner in the pan in the morning and cover it with the clear plastic lid and I had a hot meal for lunch.

An All American Sun Oven is designed to use in winds up to 40 mph. It is 20% bigger than the Global Sun Oven used in the video. It can be turned on its side to be able to cook from the first lite of day or for winter cooking. A 21-pound turkey can be baked in a baking bag.

I have had a Sun Oven for years and it's wonderful. You can make one out of a cardboard box, glass to cover the opening, and tin foil on the flaps. It can boil water for you or cook if the sun is out.

The best thing about a solar oven is not heating up your house. I dont mind baking inside in the winter but lawd have mercy, you can't be in my house if you have my oven on for more than a few minutes.

That is actually the smaller Global Sun Oven, not the All American Sun Oven. I own both versions of the Sun Oven. The All American Sun Oven is blue and is 20% larger than the Global Sun Oven model that you demonstrated. This past Thanksgiving I was able to cook a 20-pound turkey in a cooking bag in the All American Solar Oven, so the 20% size increase makes a big difference.

After watching this I ended up buying a solar oven/cooker. I got a Gosun Sport which doesn’t cook a huge amount of food at a time but is relatively compact and heats up fast and to a high temperature. I’m even finding that it cooks with just the light of a heat lamp (cooking brownies right now). Thanks for the informative video!

So far this is the most informative comparison of sun ovens I have seen. I appreciate that you aren't giving a 'top 5' type comparison but more of a pros and cons and favorite ways to use etc. Also, I have been wondering about wind and no one really talks about that until you both! THANK YOU! Also, even though you aren't exact on your pricing, the ballpark figures you throw out with the list of what is included is very helpful and another thing I have not seen in other videos. I really appreciate your honest and thorough reviews and I look forward to seeing what other such treasures are on your channel! Thank you!

I like solar cooking from parabolic box and vacuum tube cooking, which I'm just recently started in the past. I've built inexpensively a heaven. Flame box cooker reached 330° with it. Using tempered glass made my own reflectors and everything and quite efficient. Used to make chicken stews in it. I like anything that deals with solar.

I cook almost all summer with the all American sun oven. It cooks for 2 to 3 people really well. You save two fold on electricity by not using your house oven and again by not using the ac to cool the house down after heating it up using the oven. As my kids have gotten bigger, I’m looking for a second oven. And I know I want to get another All American which are now about $385 for the basic.

Pv panel charging up a battery, then running an instant pot of an inverter at any time if the day after the battery is charged is also a convenient solar method. You probably only use 100 watt hours to cook a meal.

think you underestimated the appeal of this sort of RV/Car living blog since an increasing number of people are choosing "mobile lives". Besides rent/mortgage/rat race reasons, I dumped 5 homes I owned by the beach in SoCal to first live in a schoolbus for 2 years and surf the entire coast, then switched to a sailboat, earning enough to eat by carving wind gen blades for rv's, sailboats, ham radio heads, cabin dwellers; a great green craft to know. Today I live on a boat at anchor, all wind/solar, zero petro and to me its cleaner than my life when I was addicted to fuel and utilities. Rent/travel expenses are even lower and I can get by on $300/month, so if I have a $2000-$5000 month as a software engineer (#1 skill) or electrician (#2) or just want to make neautiful, powerful wooden wind gen blades (#4 skill) or play keyboard in a rockband (#3 BUT #1 for love) I can do whatever the heck I want, even volunteer to teach classes in youth centers. You can't buy time and hamster wheel lives chasing rent and mortgages is a fine way to fry your life to a crisp. Whether you choose a backpack, an old van, a nice RV, a log raft on a river or a sailboat and a lagoon in Fiji, anyone stuck in a polyester stufffed apartment is dying and killing our planet, while folks on the road, in the woods or on the sea are free of most of those headaches, and have a much smaller footprint on Earth. I do suggest anyone who tried an rv and liked the freedom find a harbor and bid on a sailboat auction/lien sale. Any sailboat 25 ft or more will do as long as its got fair rigging, sails and a rudder and it'll probably cost you just $100-$200 bucks. That c4aft can take you to an anchorage...free rent...or a marina surrounded by rich folks who need work done. If you can wrench, wire, sand, paint, you'll never be out of work and can charge $20-$100/hr depending. BYW the windgenzen (c0m) sitr has free blade carving classes and electrical diagrams and folks in RVs can make a great rig for less than $100 and stop buying petroleum! (Except to drive of course). Thanks for the tips on solar ovens. I want to make one.

Where's the video covering the other two ovens? I made the cheap option, cardboard and aluminum foil, and I use a 5 quart cast iron Dutch oven to bake a 4 cup flour load of bread. Only wish I did a better job gluing and not reusing foil from my first failed square type oven. Scattering sunlight is not letting me get the max temp I should be getting, because it's huge from a large tv box.
