We had exactly this on our A5 convertible. It was the Mechatronic unit and the valves impact on the pressure applied to the clutches increasing wear which probably explains the higher amount of flakes in the fluid. @Sven_Re3473 жыл бұрын
This s4 is the wet clutch system. When driven hard it slams the clutch against the clutchplate and the synchros move very fast in this cars. If it still works it works. Skipping gear is also normal, you don't need al gears when driving slow, just slam the gas pedal and it will take all gears. (When not in limb mode) There is a connection between the ABS system and the electronic system of the DSG. I would first look into that. Sorry for my bad English. Greetings from Belgium.
@fastboatster3 жыл бұрын
@@Sven_Re347 right, but the trans on the s4 has 2 compartments, and the one samcrac drained only has the clutches, oil pumps and mechatronic. Gears with synchros are actually in another chamber. Large metal flakes coming from the mech unit compartment is not normal. Mine only ever contained dust like particles. Clutch friction plates are basically coated with paper, if they hit the steel plates hard, you’ll see friction material chunks but not metal.
@lesmajszki29183 жыл бұрын
Hey Sam you can also check the solenoids on the valve body for resistance, also could be a leaky valve which you can get a seal kit, sometimes if one leaks there is not enough fluid pressure in the trans to work properly.

Servicing these cars overall, isn't the worst if you are a gearhead or know anything about fixing stuff. My car is just about to 125k miles and I have done all of the 115k service myself aside from brakes yet. I have heard the mechatronics can go out on these but haven't yet had experience with it. So far from my limited knowledge, as long as you change the oil in these S4's when you are supposed to and keep up with other maintenance, they are pretty reliable.
@PizzaParkersGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sam! So I’m pretty familiar with these cars. If they haven’t done the DSG service like they were supposed to, it’s pretty common to see a bit fine metal in the oil. I’d say just do the Mech service, and run with it. I’d also look into getting VCDS with a proper cable or OBDeleven so you can access some dealer level bits in the modules for these Audi’s. That way you can reset the clutches/other internal transmission bits. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

I have a B8 S4 with the DSG dual clutch and ~67k miles. I've done the DSG fluid replacement twice now (every 30k miles or so). I've never had metal flakes or anything foreign in mine. The filters (there are two) should catch and clean it up. The mechatronics unit is known to be a failure point but if you don't catch and replace it quick enough 8/10 you'll end up having to replace the transmission at some point. Changing the mech unit will likely clear the codes and make it drive normal but you might end up having serious transmission issues down the line. Only way to really know is drive it and find out.

Usually you don't see metal sparkles in DSG gearbox fluids (probably both filters are full of them too), could be one of the clutches gone. Also might want to change the solenoids for both clutches, they usually go bad. Also, good luck putting back in the valve body, it's tricky to put it in correctly because if you miss one of the "hooks" for gears, you have to try again. Might be especially difficult if you're planning on doing it all on that ramp

I managed to get a used solenoid off ebay for £40 and about 6 hours of labour and all was fixed. The A3 belonged to a friend of mine who was told he would have to replace either the whole gearbox or the whole mechatronic unit costing over a thousand ££s ( yes I'm from the UK ) There are vids on youtube on how to test the solenoids too. Facts: if you buy a VW or Audi motor just know it will be costly to maintain. My suggestions, 1 never buy Auto/DSG transmission, its best to buy them with manual transmission way cheaper maintain. Reason, their transmission fluids and filters costs an arm and leg. 2. Also most vehicles nowadays are using alot of plastics in the engine room. VW and Audi are known for this. It is very bothersome because these plastics fail quickly because of the heat. Older models tend to be stronger because of less plastic. I own a 2001 VW Golf, I had to change engine put in a manual transmission because every minute a check light would come on the dash. When I changed engine I modified and used an aluminium head to avoid the plastic PVC valve. The valve was a nightmare had to change it twice before changing the engine. I love my car now though.

I had an A7 V6 couple of years ago, exact same issue at 60000 miles as it broke down on me on the highway. I had to replace the full gearbox, DSG’s of those years are known to fail, plenty of similar stories on the net. The other option is a transmission rebuild, cheaper solution. Good luck!

Beads shouldn't need glue to 'stick' the tyre to the wheel. - Fizzing around the rim is usually caused by an imperfection between the wheel and the tyre bead (or 'tire' in your case) most commonly flaking or bubbling paint. Get the wheel(s) refurbished and it should fix the issue permanently.

On a dsg there are two clutch pack. I’m betting the clutch for 1,3,5,7 is warn. All the codes send people down the megatronic rabbit hole. Like a manual you slip the clutch to get going. Well the dsg slips the odd clutch to get moving from a standing start causing wear faster than clutch 2( 2,4,6 gears).

I've serviced a few of these DSG cars. They all had metal flakes like that, but all functioned perfectly fine. I believe it is normal, but lack of fluid change could exacerbate this into something that looks worse than it actually is. As with every fluid, frequent change intervals is what is key.

@@BenState Never seen it quite to this extent, no. But I've seen small flakes. I think this fluid was just never changed or the car was overly abused. I think as long as there is no chunks or bigger pieces, the transmission should be fine otherwise.

probably not a good idea with that aftermarket exhaust, but one TEMPORARY workaround for driving with the limp mode is to leave the gearbox in "S" mode - so it holds the revs higher and then when it double-shifts, the next gear is closer to a reasonable level of torque, rather than

The ATF (DSG fluid) has metal debris after you drained. This caused the clutch pack has worn and the metal debris has entered in the mechatronics. In Audi workshop, they will exchange to new one. However, you need to removed the gearbox out and require special tools to remove the clutch pack out.
@streetrider19873 жыл бұрын
Buying a used mechatronics doesn’t make sense because the used one had been programmed with another car. If you find a mechatronics repair shops which they can decode and repair the current part in this car. After that, this has procedure from initialisation of key immobilizer, coding the mechatronics, adaption for mechatronics like forks adjustments and clutch kissing point.
