Good video! I have a Model 3 - the budget one you describe. Right after buying it, my wife and I drove from one coast of Canada to the other and back. Most fun car I have owned. I've turned into a bit of an evangelist and tell everyone "All those negative things you have heard about range, power, finding chargers etc - none of the negative comments are true". The electric grid will manage just fine by the way - people are not cooking or drying their laundry at 2am when the cars are charging.

I have a four year old Model 3 Performance. I have not had any issues and it saves me money. The driving is less stressful and no maintenance fees. I was spending $450 per month on gas with my old Acura MDX. Now I charge at home. I was able to buy the car when the prices dropped and also had the tax credit.

Hey Rachel…We too are a Tesla Family. We bought both of our Teslas, Model X and Model S, used!! My husband and I are techies and we absolutely love our purchases. I’m also an apple user, phone, computer, Apple TV, headphone etc, and with any technology there is a possibility for glitches BUT guess what those glitches can and do also happen to mechanical engines. Our cars have saved us a lot of money because along with our electric car, we have solar on our roof. So charging our car is all but free. I am an all cash budgeter and the one envelope you will not find in any of my binders/wallet is tune up/oil change & GAS.

RACHEL AND ALL! The electric vehicle tax credit does not work out for everyone. First, if you are self-employed, it cannot be applied to your self-employment tax. In my personal situation, 75-80% of our owed tax is SE tax. So, if we owe $10,000 in tax, we would only get to use $2,000-$2,500 of that electric vehicle credit. Also, the credit is "use it or lose it." If you can't use it in one year, you are out of luck. Finally, if you prepaid your taxes, as most do through the year with their employer, you also won't get the credit because it is NON-REFUNDABLE. You are best to buy early in the year and stop your withholding so you can make sure to be able to use the tax credit. I learned these things from my CPA yesterday. You should probably do a follow-up segment to explain this or you may end up with some very upset followers...!

I've been driving electric only for 11 years, Leaf then model Y, I have been fortunate with no maintenance in those years - except tire rotations & windshield wiper change. Charging at home saves a ton in the long run and is really more convenient. My car was paid off quick by TSLA gains. Under no circumstances would I consider buying a gas car again, If anything being grid independent might be the next thing as costs for power walls come down, to get and use your own power, then no need for power company at all, until then EV electricity costs are negligible compared to what I would have spent on ⛽

Majority of “maintenance” are just on tire rotation, which costs around 65usd, with a tech coming to your garage 🤷🏻‍♀️ i dont need to get a faster charger either because my slow charger that comes with the car works just fine, and i just go to a supercharger if it’s not sufficient

She talks about what she saves on gasoline for a car for a year. She also said they can be budget friendly. She best not take her budget friendly Tesla across country on the back roads of the US. Because if she does, she's going to find it difficult to find a charging stations at those places that you miss if you blink as you drive by them. You can put gas in the tank at those places, but charge an electric car? Good luck. She's also wrong about the electric grid going down if everyone had an EV. Newsome already issued an order earily this year for EV owners not to charge their cars due to a power shortage. Wonder why that order didn't apply to ICE vehicles? Buying an EV is only part of the cost she had to incur. How was she going to recharge the batteries at home? Plug it into a 110 outlet, only to get a trickle charge overnight? Or hire an electrician to evaluate her electrical service to her home to see if a quick charger can be installed? And if her electric service has to be upgraded before a quick charger can be installed, will the power company be able to upgrade her service without rebuilding power grid in the area where she lives? And if they have to rebuild the electrical grid in her area? Will she have to pay all or part of the costs? And if the power company can upgrade her service without rebuilding the power grid in her area, what will they charge her for the upgrade? What about the circuit breaker box at her home? If she needs an upgrade in service to her home, will the circuit breaker box be able to handle the upgrade or will it too have to be up graded? People who tout EVs seldom, if ever, talk about the extra costs that might be incurred just to charge their EV at home. If they want their EV to have a full charge in the morning. It was interesting that once her Tesla gave up the ghost, she couldn't open the doors from the outside. Having the use of a regular key lock on the doors would have prevented that little problem.

My parents have had EV cars for about a decade. I borrowed a Nissan Leaf from my dad for several months back in 2017 while I was in school and enjoyed it. But have not taken the leap to EV for myself. I have a Kia Niro hybrid because I have a long commute and at the time I bought my car no EV's had the range that I need. But as the range gets longer and more public charging stations become available I think my next car may be an EV.

Wait for the battery replacement is needed....All of the cost of gas looks better. For instance $50 to fill up the gas tank say 52 weeks a year...all good. BUT when the battery goes out in the Tesla, a LUMP sum of thousands of dollars needed NOW.

Wait until she has to pay to replace the Battery after roughly 5 years. She has a higher electric bill due to the charging but it is lower than gas prices, but replacing the battery could be 5,000 or higher.

For any haters that think owning an electric car is an inconvenience and always break down, then please tell me how convenient owning a gas car is when it comes to fueling up and oil changes and tell me why auto mechanic shops exist if they are so reliable?

More convenient than waiting an hour to fill up, an oil change isn't all that inconvenient, and an EV is still going to break down.

With a gas car you know exactly how far you can go before you run out of gas, and you’re able to refuel in minutes. You don’t need to install a charger in your home, you don’t need to wait for a few public charger. When the power goes out for extended periods you can still drive your car (days on end). You can bank fuel for a power outage in Gerry cans which will last indefinitely. A government or company can’t take over your car.
@momlife1123
@momlife1123 Жыл бұрын
One thing everyone forgets about EV’s is that once the battery stops working (7-10yrs) the entire car is trash.. There is no way to install a new battery. So it’s not any more environmentally friendly since a reliable Toyota or Honda can still be driven for 20-30 years.

Who is surprised Rachel Everyone knows Tesla's Are Expensive
@JL-ds1pi
@JL-ds1pi Жыл бұрын
Sorry about your experiences Rachel, for those of us who are car enthusiasts, Tesla is known to actually be one of the least reliable cars. Case in point, in different parts of the world, such as in parts of Asia, Tesla's go for more than half the price compared to the American market. Indicating that they are still profiting at a significant reduction of price. "Quality" and Tesla just really don't go together
@WAGSMadison

The thing about it is - electric and hybrid cars are great at first (except for Rachel's) but go down the road 10+ years and those electrical components will stop working. So if you don't mind shelling out money to repair all of that.... we can't open two of our doors from the inside, the touch screen work regularly and the phone charger thing doesn't work. Your life situation can change down the road where those repairs aren't in the budget. There's also that interesting video of the Finnish guy who blew up his tesla because of the massive repair bill he got. I guess if you are in BS7, it doesn't matter.

We love electric cars, too. In Europe you will not be able to buy anything else (by law) in 10 years. So our roof is full of photo voltaic- we drive for free and cool our house for free, and get paid for access ectricity, …. (Excuse my English)

Electric makes sense in Europe or city stop and go driving but not for long trips until batteries are more reliable. Heard stories of people who took road trips and had about 60% battery left and the next morning with the car sitting all night was 15%.

My same thoughts that it's like a spaceship! I dig Teslas as a geek, but it's hard for me to still stomach the price. (I hear your dad's car rants replaying in my head lol ;). I was very reluctant in getting one... But folded after my wife persuaded me (or won that battle lol) to get the Model Y LR in 2021, so I say it's "her car." I thought it would be an interesting experiment, but here we are after two years of ownership... We've certainly had our share of malfunctions (spontaneous reboots while driving, door problem, etc). And I was skeptical about how it would fare on an extended road trip with kids, but we've done a few of them (and we don't mind the charging stops for breaks). Tesla is pretty innovative and in terms of performance it's hard to beat... I just wish they had a level of quality on par with a Camry, Accord, or Civic!

Just food for thought. Husband is a firefighter and the all electric cars burn at an insane temperature. Very unsafe. Firefighter's gear can't handle it and nor can their equipment put out fire. Until there are solutions to this we won't be buying electric. Additional: we also have some ethical concerns with human rights mining of lithium batteries used and disposal impact. While we appreciate the attempt at environmental improvement, the mining offsets this as does the human cost-they are far from fair trade conditions. Very upsetting
