Had a bit later 212 version without trem but with parametric EQ. With the parametric EQ tuned to lowest setting and fully boosted, it was the best BASS amp I have ever played through. And it was OK as a guitar amp too. But MAN was it killer for bass. I would disconnect the 2 12s and connect 2 15s in a Kustom Roll and Tuck cab and it was KILLLLLERRR!

From Leo: Happy that you found one in such good shape. They were built to quality spec. Great amp, all analog solid state. The Toshiba and Hitachi transistors of that era were slower response than today's transistors. I think they sound smoother. The only warning is to avoid anything wiring activity that would allow the speaker leads to short, Like most amps of that era, there is no internal short circuit protection. You will be hard pressed to find a set of output transistors.
@in.der.welt.sein.
@in.der.welt.sein. 7 ай бұрын
There are modern equivalent transistors that can be substituted. Not that it's a good idea to short the output... But these amps can be repaired still.

Hey Landon. If you like buying and fixing up old amps, like me, you may have struggled to find the ultimate cleaner for the tolex, (the vinyl ). Well, another KZbin content creator did a couple of videos on what he claimed was the best amp cleaner he has ever found, I tried it, and it is absolute magic. Meguiars covertible top cleaner. I was flabbergasted by how much grunge this product took off of the tolex on my 60 plus year old Ampeg Rocket. Order some. You can thank me later. Oh, and the tremolo on that Yamaha amp is utterly gorgeous! A huge bonus unexpected surprise.

I have a 100w two channel Yamaha bought new in 1973. The power amp blew and was replaced under warranty but they only had a 400 watt power amp. This thing is super loud. Too loud for a pub gig unless it was facing the wall and the volume was on less than 0.5. It drowns out Marshall’s from the era. 2x12 layout. The answer to what age yours is I would think 1970/71. As mine was the upgrade of that model with the introduction of two channels which had high and low impedance inputs trips out to high if you run two inputs at a time on one channel. Glad you are enjoying it. They are special. Btw the cost when new was £199 or about $400

Have a G100-B212 opened up on the bench, paid $125. All the pots were dirty, the reverb tank had a broken spring, and some knobs were melted, probably from cigarette ash. Fixed all that, last problem channel one sounds like an AM radio, no low frequency response. Channel two is good. Caps next. Don't pay thousands for a vintage Twin Reverb, get this baby for way less.

@dunxy
@dunxy Жыл бұрын
i think with ss rep it depends on what a person desires and they were adopted quickly by players who stay clean like jazz and bass, I've always liked the cleans that they produce but for overdriven and distortion they never really did it well until fairly (probably 15-20 years, im old , that's recent!) recently. Now the modelers and profilers absolutely kill it, little reason to use valve amps anymore for anything but nostalgia. I only have one these days, rarely use it because for it to sound good, it has to be cranked to "piss of the neighbour's" volumes and its only a deluxe clone, not a twin,jtm45 or any high powered beast. My Kemper on the other hand sounds fantastic at volumes the neighbours cannot even detect.

I am the same way with gear. I found a Laney Cub10 for $150 at a local thrift shop and had to buy it to “flip it” 😂 I also just got a 100 watt Carvin valve master head for $50. All tube design including the tube driven reverb section and the OD isn’t great on the drive channel but, when you pull back the gain, crank the volume and use an OD pedal it rips. The clean channel though is pristine and usable all on its own.

Anyone looking for a good amp deal thats still out there- One of the absolute best deals on older amps you can possibly get is the fender princeton chorus for 200 or less. Its loud clean, it was made to compete against the jazz chorus……and id say it blows the jc away. The chorus is far more lush and deep, the clean tone is beautiful fender clean. The distortion is a compressed thick 80’s distortion you either hate it, or think its ok for certain things…..but thats how the jc dirty channel is too. Its got stereo effects loop, and a standard loop, its got a headphone jack that can be line out too. So theres also some peavey jazz chorus copies out there too….they are also good and well priced.

I a/b it with my other 1 x 15 that has a 70's JBL (k130 iirc) voiced for guitar in it and there's not much in it, obv for bass the Yamaha kills it, higher power handling and lower frequency response.

Yeah, the dating is frustrating. It's a series 1. Likely between 1975 to 1979. Some sources say 1978 to 1982. But Paul Rivera says in a video that he was working with Yamaha on developing the series 2 in 1976. I remember clearly that when I rented one from Yamaha in 1982 or 83, it was definitely a series 2 version. Looked up some vintage brochures that show the series 1 still in 1980, and the series 2 in 1982... Safest to just say, yours is sometime between 1975 and 1981 I guess, haha

The Series I amps were made from early/mid '70s through '77 maybe into '78. I bought a brand new Thirty 112 in 1977 and the store was just getting the Series II amps in.

I have an old Yamaha practice amp. Way smaller. It works good. Has a cool drive. You did good buddy I like it too. Nice 😎👍👌💯🎸🎸. They make great keyboards , Stereo equipment. But not into their guitars. Except the Yamaha Pacifica. 😊😊. We can never have too much Gear. 😂😂

The amp in this video is a Series I amp. Paul worked on the Series II amps (which, looking at the schematic, is really, really Fendery!).

You can grab a Rivera era Fender Super 112 for $375. Cool amp. I just got a Line 6 Spider Valve with the Bogner tube power section for $100

Rivera-era solid states are forreal, especially the usa-made ones, the little broncos from the 90s are pretty good too

The amplifier section will be the same. It'll come down to whether you prefer the sound of 10s or 12s.

I just picked up one of these. I have a pre amp pedal that it really doesn’t like and I can’t use. It squeals pretty hard. I’ve had this same issue with a Vox I had. Any ideas?

Where's the stash of old Canadian $2 bills in this 'vintage' Fifty-210? ED: wow I just read Paul Rivera had a hand in designing these! And for sure is a great pedal platform.
