I remember they had one of these in the school band room way back in '81 - '82 when i was starting guitar.

Great amp. I wish I still had my old 100W 212 from this era. Very good speakers in these, and the early 80's yamahas as well. FWIW, I'd also put an ESR meter on the electrolytics, but there's every chance they are all fine, even if this has had lots of run time. The Japanese components are very high quality and the circuits usually have everything well within their tolerances. The only other thing I'd check is the mains and chassis earth, just for safety. Thanks for the video mate!

they must be popular at value village as i got mine there too. i paid $80.00 but it was still a good deal . plus the family of mice living inside it was a bonus. a bonus my wife was not crazy about .

80$ is still a great deal for these. These amps are total sleepers. People overlook them but they are loud and clean and sound great for a solid state amp.

I bought my 210 about 10 years ago for $50 with the same crunchy pot syndrome. I cleaned it enough to test it and where you removed the reflector, I have a printed sticker that reads "Jazz Bastard". It sits on a swivel stand beside my bed but the THR10C at th e foot of the bed is on 24/7.

I had a G50 410 a long time ago, and it had a built in chorus, instead of tremelo. It was loud as hell. Wish I still had it.

I bought one of these through Goodwill's auction site for $63 and some change. When I got it home and tested it, it sounded really rough. I took it apart, sprayed the insides of the pots, put it back together and now it sounds superb. To anyone that attempts something like this, DO NOT TOUCH THE CAPACITORS. IT CAN KILL YOU. I wouldn't touch any of the circuitry.

I bought the G100 212 Mark II recently for CAD $175. It reminds me of a Twin Reverb in terns if tone.

Paul Rivera was involved in the design of the Series II Yamaha amps. There's a KZbin video of him talking about it. Beyond that, if you looked at a schematic of the G100 Series II and compare it to a Twin Reverb, aside from the Yamaha being solid state, the preamp circuit looks just like a Fender. I bought one a few years ago and it has become my main amp! I had been wrestling with the overdrive channel for quite a while. Once I simply set the tone controls like the clean channel, set up the gain structure to just start to get furry and hit it the front end with a TS style overdrive pedal, it sounds great!

The Pre-Set Volume control only works with the footswitch. It's like a volume boost.

Hi Mike - I'm wondering if you can give a definitive answer on whether it's safe to run an early 80s solid state Yamaha G50 with the speaker disconnected. I like the sound of the direct out for recording, but I want to record silent. But without knowing for sure I'm afraid to disconnect the speaker. I'd hate to ruin the amp. Thanks!
