I just received this trashcan today and since the time of your video, they've updated it and now it can "close" and "stay open" by command. So there's 3 commands now in Dec 2019: "Open can," "Close can," and "Stay open." The stay open command blinks a blue light to let you know it is paused. Then when you walk away from the sensor it closes or you can just say "close."

It's definitely cool, it's one of those things you buy once and keeps its value -I'd get one but I don't produce enough trash to justify it. It would take me about 2 weeks to fill up a bin and by that time whatever was in there would create a strong odor

It *is* cool, you can have a closed trashcan and still throw stuff from a distance just by prefacing the throw with “open can”. That’s probably the only time I’d use that though, motion control all the way, I don’t like speaking very much lol. But yeah, ideal situation? Why not!
