Hi went to Australia & rode my friends R3 for two weeks 2.500 kilometres super comfy fuel economy excellent yes high way seed no problem . Highly recommend that bike was great in the twisty mountain roads all the power is useable very nippy on the tight corners. Been riding for over 40 years & can say a bike for every day riding 100% :)

R25 rider here, with over 100k km on odometer record by now. Just watched your video here, and I feel like I need to point out several things. First thing, your opinions are all about correct about the bike. It is also a better bike than Ninja 300 in my opinion as well. Greater part of it is for similar reason you pointed out ; crotch pressure. And yes, the front brakes is indeed suck ass on my R25 as well. I've learned to live with it. As I understand that this is a used bike, I believed you have checked every aspect of it and did all the necessary works of maintenance. While this bike really is well built, not necessarily means it'd be trouble free. For instance, we need to change the oil filter after about 3x oil changes, or it will get ugly if neglected. 4x, if your son riding it as mild as I do. Another part that needs constant replacing after a while is the air filter. Admittedly depends on where you live and the air/weather quality, but the general rule of thumb, we need to replace it every 5k km. Not sure about the clutch set, since mine still using the stock it came with. After all, everyone has their own riding style. And then, there's the front lamp socket that will get soggy after about 2 years, in my case. It is located just below the right handle, inside the right side of front fairing. I tighten mine with a strip bar, not sure what it is called in your area. Never died out again since. Also, these are just lists on the top of my head right now, the wiring will short itself for seemingly no reason. Typical Yamaha issue. Pretty glaring if you ask me, but nobody seem to talk about this. Mine happened on 4th year owning it, at about 56-60k km. The initial symptoms is a notice on your speedometer says Err1. Scratched my head when it happened, hopefully this information will help you or your son should the same issue happens on that bike as well. The solution is just straight up strip the bike and rewire everything, making sure everything connects properly. Same reason as occasional dying on front lamp, soggy sockets. The only difference is, if it gets too severe, such issue will burn the fuse. Thing is, we'll never know which socket that trigger this. R125, R15v2 and v3 also plagued with similar issue. While this issue may vary on when it will happen, trust me that it's inevitable and you and your son should expect it. Can be mitigated if you chose to do rewiring ASAP, but even then, it might still happen despite. It is, after all, an old bike. But once it did happen and fixed properly, expect another good long run with no same issue. No need to purchase a new wiring set from Yamaha, but their service center will insist you to. Mine is a 2014 btw. Still have no reason to sell mine after all these years. I've mod it, tried racing ECU, Quick shifters, everything. Had a blast with it. Now it's been 3 years since I retort everything back to stock. I ain't going wild again. Another thing to add, Yamaha's stock gearset quality, while not bad, it's not that great either. Changed the gears to WR3's and the chain to EK's black gold O-ring at 40k km, haven't shown any signs need replacing since. While before that, I need to buy Yamaha's Genuine gearset every 10k km. My track is mountain roads, so I can accept why my stock chains got soggy a bit faster than everyone else. Lastly, the way you shift in this video is too soon. Let it rise to somewhere around 11-12k rpm first. In fact, it has light indicator on when you should shift. Your shifting momentum here is very similar with my riding style, but I don't ride as aggressive as you in this video. I like to hover around 6-7k rpm most of the time because that's the smoothest riding experience the machine feels. If you do this, it will result in better fuel mileage too. Another reason is because the engine doesn't have what we would call decent amount of torque on low rpm. But it's so smooth, my wife often fell asleep on passenger seat while hugging me as we ride long roads. Typically, R25 and R3 riders all do the same thing after a while. Perhaps your son will too, at some point. Just chill ride with no reason to push it, although we know the bike can, but choose not to just to maintain staying in the bike's smooth and gentle characteristic. All the way.

Awesome find! I myself have you beat though lol. Not hating just want to share my story. I live in the Central Valley in CA. I found a 2016 Yamaha R3 with 749 miles on the odometer. Guy selling needed it out of his storage and let it go for $1000! It’s one of those offerup posts that had few details and description. Pictures of the bike showed it dusty and terrible. I messaged him out of the sake of it. I was finally in the market to but my first bike. The gentleman that sold it to me was an experienced rider of over 22 years. The bike belonged to his wife but never rode it. I said whatever, let me go take a look. I went, bike was spotless. Deal of a lifetime in my book. 749 miles, yoshimura exhaust, matte gray and black. The hardware was replaced from black to red. The visor was also switched to black. This is all things I would have done to it if it was stock. I’ve had it since November 2022. I’ve only put in 300 miles on it. Cold weather and no license stop me from riding. I just got my permit and the weather is clearing up. Super excited!

The smaller displacement bike engines are like small capacity car engines they are designed to rev high in fact they want you to trash them to get to the power , as long as they are well maintained they will literally do tens of thousands of miles flat out Also they are in a state of tune that ensure reliability , a company like Yamaha would have tested the engine to destruction multiple times that's how they work out the gear ratios sprockets and service intervals that they are sold with , Ive seen hardly any videos on the Yamaha R3 having reliability issues , if you know how to ride a bike and maintain it will handle highway speeds for a long long time before anything goes wrong especially if your a light weight rider .

A track day would be so fun! You'd feel like Quatararo pinned 99.8% of the time 😂I'd take it over the Kaw, the Kaw's gearboxes were always not up to the other brands IMO. 1800 is a steal shoot I'd buy it if it was here the roads would be great for it here, a lot of small cc bikes over here.🤙

Looking at this as my next bike, yes, second bike after my 125, I don't care about HPs, been around for too long driving cars and racing karts I just want to be safe and ride something that's do it all, can do the freeway and city. A sprocket change is one of the things I would be looking into to lower the highway rpm, probably no less than 10%, I weigh 165 pounds so it should be fine. For everyday normal riding it won't matter, you'll be building up more speed in 1st and 2nd gear as well. Cool review btw, I've heard no bad thing about this bike from anyone, seems like a fun little machine one can't go wrong with, unless they're on their way to a liter bike and in a real hurry of getting there. I was set on the R7 until I decided to be honest with myself, I do not have any use for it's power and torque other than to get in trouble.

@@ScoutsOut any tips on what to look out for when buying a used bike ?
@ScoutsOut
@ScoutsOut 2 жыл бұрын
Look up the manual and find out when services are due and how many miles the bike has on it, so you know what you are getting into. When you turn the key on the check engine light should be on and the abs/traction control too if the bike has them. Once you start the bike the check engine light should go away and once you drive away the abs/traction should turn off. I would look through the fairings to see if it has any leaks and see if they did any engine mods, if they did them themselves I would inspect. Check the brakes and fluid to see if it is spongy or needs to be replaced, check where the clutch releases to see if it needs an adjustment. Look up the manual for how to check the oil and see if it’s within limits. So many more, I wouldn’t buy unless I could ride it but I know many won’t let yea… hope this helps

Im sure youre not joking. I probably missed the perfectly good reason why whoever sold that to you for $1,800. 11,000 miles is a lot to just about everybody. Its just that worldwide nothing comes close price wise. And thats including bikes up for sale at a price where $1800 would be somehow reasonable offer that woulkdnt piss off the seller for even thinking it. I found one with 19,000 miles for $3999. I wont bother listing all the ones that were 9,000 to 11,000 miles and they had a 5 in front of the number. There was ONE! A salvaged title listed for $2250. 3250 miles too. 2019. Wait, lolz there were identical ones to yours. 2015 year? One has 13,000 miles, $3,999. Does any of this matter? Maybe. How much? Little to nothing to anybody really. My guess is you got clever. "How can I get more views out of the title relatively risk free?" "I know!" True.

Yea sadly you have to feed into the KZbin title drama game sometimes to get a vid to be seen

@@ScoutsOut You're fully aware that your method while not accurate is acceptable among would be peers. Correct. Everyone loved it. The video. Is the R3 perfect as it is? People need to find criticisms or they cant have content but as it sits....at it's price...is it the perfect creation for the beginner category from The Haus of Yamaha? You can't add sht without effecting the price....people seem to forget that or ignore it. I think it's actually, for many people, the perfect beginner sports bike. These companies dont do anything out of lack of interest, laziness, without much thought...which is what 99% of KZbin experts think about the R3. It's 2024. Not 1974. They finished perfecting it years ago.
