Oh nice man ! I remember earlier in the year, you did a video with an Oled (forgot which one) where you looked at the shadow detail of the scene in Batman Returns where Michelle Pfieffer is running where there are explosions. And the Oled TV couldn't capture the other half of her coat in that scene and the LCD could. In the scene, she not in her Cat Woman outfit. I wonder if the G4, with that added brightness, will be able to capture that shadow detail of her coat. Picking up the LG G4 myself (my first Oled ever) on Black Friday.

You need a source to push great content through to the LG OLED or any other OLED, in order to maximize the picture. Example the Panasonic UB820 4K player. This maximize picture quality besides a streamer device. Nothing beats 4K disc right now. Arrow Video always puts out great content in 4K and Dolby Vision and sometimes Dolby Atmos. The Chronicles of Riddick 4K from Arrow Video have great visuals. The UB820 has 2 separate HDMI ports on the back to separate video and audio for LG OLED. The picture and sound is off the charts. Of course the sound coming through my Denon Home Theater.

I bought the same player for the same reasons, and I lg doesn't pass through dts. I think some people can't tell tho when I play a 4k blu ray. I don't know if its their eyesight or if they just dont care in some way. My brain doesn't let me ignore compression and can't watch movies without surround sound anymore.

I respect what you do and things you put out. The only issue I have is you saying LG dropped the ball and they need work with Samsung to get QD-OLED panels. Thats like a girl laughing at you when you’re on the come up, then you blow then she wants some. Samsung bashes the OLED technology in 2014. Samsung is the company that started the concerns of burn-in. LG will figure it out, Panny did. The OLED technology can only go up!

I haven’t shifted at all on my mention that they have dropped the ball, they need to make a QD-OLED panel. What happens when/if Samsung displays makes an 83” true QD-OLED, it’s over. If it wasn’t for this tv being 83”, I wouldn’t have got it. You won’t catch me changing my position on that. Better is better. But right now I do have the best largest tv, which is the G4.

Hi TKK, congrats on the G4! If there’s any chance, can you see if you are affected by the center vertical line issue that us G4 83” owners are experiencing. If you google LG 83” G4 center vertical line, you should see our thread on avs forum, which have links to KZbin videos that let you test if your set is affected. It’s been frustrating getting a response from LG on this issue, would be helpful if you can see if your unit is affected, and possibly amplify our issue if so? Seems like in HDR, if you have bright highlights just on the left side of the screen, you get a thin vertical line down the middle of the display.

On the topic of feeling bored of your older Tvs, this is just the human condition in that humans get used to material things after the honeymoon phrase therefore they no longer seem impressive which leads for the desire for more material things. This is why its always encouraged to spend money on experiences like travel as the memories stay with us for a lifetime.

Great mention. But for me, tv panels are truly different, there are several other things that I don’t get bored with, like having children, the materials are often a positive gateway to see what we work so hard to afford, a vacation while sticks to the memory is only tangible through that memory or dare I say a souvenir. That said we practice both. But to be more specific on me being bored in this instance I talked about, the other TV I returned although inferior, it was exciting because it was different than what I’ve owned so much of (OLED). I appreciate the response.

I got the 77 inch and it is insane, but you really need to know how to set it up properly. A lot of people forcing stuff like FilmMaker mode etc, when I found that HDR video content looks most beautiful in Vivid, everything pops and shines super bright with amazing colors while still having perfect black levels. Also, SDR gaming should be done in standard mode and configured with color control on PC.

Its still too small. Last night i watched a old throw back, james bond quantum of solace. I remember seeing that back in the day as a kid, when it came out in the movie theathers, and the size of the screen had such an impact on a movie. Last night i watched it on my 77 s89c, and it looked good, but scale is not even there. 2025, im upgrading to a long throw projector. Long throw projectors can finally do 4k120hz gaming now too. Size > oled.

From what I’ve seen the G4 certainly is way better for sports and any cable tv/none 4k streaming. It’s way better than Samsung in that regard due to better processing similar to Sony level nowadays. Also the fact it’s way brighter for SD content is a plus for sports yet again. G3 is still solid except for that issue with a dim game mode with muted colors.

I think 90" is a great size for people who don't have a dedicated room , and pretty std size lounge . I'll check out the 83" OLEDs next year in CES and make a decision then . For movie night can move seating up etc , but feel there is another factor being real close is just as not relaxing , unless you want orientate the plane of the TV so all corners equal distances away . Short distance works for PC monitors but think to relax for a movie the in movie perspective assumes viewer is a certain distance away , plus surround sound easier if back further ie it just feels more right not to sit too close . Also if I'm enjoying the movie I don't notice the size

Congrats! The whole QD-OLED vs WOLED is just so overblown! WOLED is still great and nobody looking at a G4 in person is going to say that the picture is "old tech" and lacking. QD-OLED has some advantages for sure but the difference in the vast majority of real world content is not significant. Enjoy one of the absolute best TVs on the market 😉

I said when I returned home I didn’t have the B9, I was bored, before my trip I had the B9 due to circumstances of me knowing I would be gone up to 2 months I returned it, the B9 was exciting, I had already owned the A95L a full year at this point, up to even today it still is my main driver. The G4 was a pick over B9 because of size and panel tech.

I have the LG C3 and LG CX. I returned the LG G4 for the Samsung S95D and honestly, the Samsung is better. The LG G4 is just bright AF but a lot of the colors and scenes get washed out. I am an LG fanboy but I cant justify the price and upgrade over the LG C3. I'll wait until LG goes QD-OLED or PHO-OLED. Samsung won this year

My only issue with the 83 inch is the price. it's on sale right now but I know it will drop again before Christmas and then with CES right around the corner not sure what to do.
