Wow! That's a 14 or 15 gauge bore size! That's huge! Great video, as always!

Did you clean and reuse the original nipple or replace? Do you ever fire the pistols that you restore?

The Spring looks like a blacksmith job, they should have a finer light spring.

Great video! Judging by the bore size, it probably was a manstopper. Any idea on what the ballistics might have been like?

That's a wrist breaker for sure.

maybe it didnt fire a solid ball "but probably could do" i think it could have been something like a shotgun or blunderbuss "full of tacks or salt/grit small lead shot/bird shot or something like that.

@@inspectorcal I'd definitely be loading a big patched lead ball!

Another good presentation. I'm sceptical to the originality of that massive mainspring, I've never seen one as thick as that. I'm guessing it's a poor attempt at making the hammer throw more powerful - which can actually do damage to the notches on the hammer by wearing them down.

Thanks, I think you maybe right.

@@morriscarstairs2685 All.the pistols I've owned have just had bog standard mainspring. That looked like a cut down spring from a musket of something like that.

Cal .69 is indeed military caliber, I have dragoon pistols and muskets equal to this.

Your nipple wrenchs are awesome.

the idea of striking a punch is hitting it with the hammer face FLAT and you won't bend the punch....obviously you don't have a drill or removing the hammer pin would have been simple.... you can probably weld the spring and then re temper it . a 69 cal derringer would be nice to have for me ! I carried a 41 cal for years loaded with the cap on , all I had to do was cock and fire it. I did put a step in the hammer as a precaution/safety position. so it could not go off if it was hit.... cap and ball firearms are very reliable . balls can be purchased in a variety of sizes too... I used the pressed in method for my gun I just used a 45cal ball and drove it in with a hammer till it was sitting on the 60 grains of powder I never had a misfire with that gun in all the years I owned it ! it was my back pocket carry gun for about 5 years ! one shot is better than none ! and 41 cal would stop the biggest mugger....
