Congratulations on your new saddle. However, you should get a saddle fitter to look at it, as it looks to me like the deepest point of the saddle is too far back, ie it's gravity is towards the back and your body will not be in a good balance and the back of the saddle will be pushed down into the back in a way that can cause back pain for the horse if not corrected. it should be an easy fix if it is wool flocked. Unless the whole tree of the saddle is too flat and that's why it looks that way... I'm not a saddle fitter, but my saddle fitter has basically been training me since I started using her in the early 2000's

I appreciate your concern, but don’t worry. I’m getting a saddle fitter to look at it in the spring. He’ll mostly be off until then. I only rode in it 3 times for very short walk/trot rides to get a sense of it and only did so because I assessed it based on my knowledge of saddle fit (which is ever-expanding as I’m always learning).

Not to mention, if I need to raise up the back I can use a shimmable half pad or something similar :) I have a lot of experienced people around me here in Canada to help until I can get a saddle fitter out 🙂♥️ Thanks for your comment!

@@KaitehhEquestrian That's good. I just didn't want you to get this problem, I've had friends that had saddles that pressed down at the back into the horse's backs and it was some rehab to get them better again. Nad Merlin is so young. I hope the fitter can fix whatever the problem is :)

I appreciate that :) trust me when I say I overthink every piece of tack that I put on him and every welfare choice 😂😂 in regards to how it will impact his long term happiness and soundness, so I didn’t just throw the saddle on his back without discussions with experts. 🥰 I’m very much a helicopter mom so every decision I make in regards to him is thought about and researched for more hours than I care to admit 😂😂 On the topic of saddle fit, I’m sure you know with youngsters it’s so tough. I swear Merlin changes shape like once a month 😂 that’s another reason why I’m letting him have the winter off, because in my experience horses do a LOT of growing both in muscle and filling out over the course of their 3-4 y/o winter, so not riding him that much will save me a lot of money on saddle fitting over the next few months while he grows and changes 😂😂😂
