I Bought DC Multiverse Figures for the First Time...Here is What I Think

I think they are actually on par. If you consider the size of the figures and the paint detail, I think it makes up for the lack of accesories. Also it also varies from figure to figure. I mean, the Devastator from DC Multiverse is(or was at release) 20 bucks and it's the size of a BAF or a big figure from Legends that goes for 30-40 bucks lol.

Better value how? Can't be materially. Mcfarlanes have more detail, more paint, unique sculpts, always come with accessories, as opposed to legends which sometimes come with none. Additionally, the accessories are painted and many times drybrushed as well, unlike Hasbros. Not to mention even with the BAFs, they're cheaper. You only have to buy 4 Mcfarlanes for a BAF, wheras you have to buy maybe 6 or 7 legends all for 23 dollars to get a BAF. Not to mention they cost less on average than legends but they're bigger and generally have higher production values. And they're generally cheaper even though they're all bigger than legends. Seriously what do you mean? You can't mean strictly in the articulation dept.

The biggest thing is MacFarlane, as usual, CAN POSE, but....not well. The sculpt is amazing, but I finagle a pose....bam, on the stand. Never touching it. Marvel Legends you can really get some range. Also Todd is really doing too much Batman. Sure Legends has a lot of Spidey, Cap, and Thor, but we get completely off radar guys like Serpent Society and Arcade.

For me the sculpt of the McFarlane figures are superior to Legends. I would say Legends do have better articulation but both are great in their own way.

Great review. FYI: McFarlane Toys was TOLD my DC to make the line 7 inch. Why? Because I believe that, at that time, they were already considering closing down their DC Collectibles/DC Direct division. And DC Collectibles/Direct mostly made their figures at the 7 inch scale. To be honest, I have to give it to Todd who replied to someone about the scale when he said, "How are you going to complain about me giving you MORE plastic for the SAME price?" And ... he's not wrong.

McFarlane does not make their figures to cater to Marvel Legends collectors and it seems like they are marketing to DCC/DCD collectors. Plus, McFarlane himself says he does 7" scale because he wants his figures to look like it can beat up all the other action figures in the aisle.

@amostlynottoxic dude you mean accessories coming with the figures? Or like scaling with other accessories, which I actually don't have a problem with. All my spare guns, batarangs, shuriken scale with the batman figs they've released. And well I personally have been collecting 7" scale a while now. They scale with everything from NECA and DST, some DCD and of course other Mcfarlanes. That's a decent range right there. They don't scale with Marvel legends, but honestly I'm not upset. Side by side, most Mcfarlanes look worlds better than legends. It's a good thing they can't be displayed together.

@amostlynottoxic dude aaah gotcha. Well I guess that's fair. I personally don't mind though. Like I said I have tons of spare everything from years of collecting, so I don't need much new stuff. And I think this is honestly due to all the unique sculpts and paintwork. Undoubtedly his budget per figure is bigger than Hasbro's, but I feel to come out profitable he literally can't afford any more than he's giving us. I think he's stretching things as far as he can. By all accounts new sculpts and all that paint are expensive, and I'd much prefer he put budget toward this rather than very obvious reuse + extra hands etc every time like with Hasbro. But maybe your mileage may vary.

The Mattel multi-verse figures were in 6 inch. Also, you’ll be glad to know, if you get the action comics 1000 Superman, he has a pair of alternate hands. And is one of my favorite Superman’s, of all time. I do agree with you, I wish these were in 6 inch. However, McFarlands collect to build figures, only take four to complete. Instead of the standard five, or six.

Imho - Mcfarlane figures are better than Marvel legends in almost every aspect. Paint job is better, sculpting is better, size is better, and the overall quality of the figure just feels better. I own figures of both lines and this is my experience. I feel that some of us might be bias towards ML just because we love the characters. But if we’re talking about the figures alone, no doubt McFarlane toys are better. Again, in my opinion.

It's been over 20 years and McFarlane toys still can't get accessories to fit in the figure's hands. That was a huge issue with early baseball figures. I have a Chipper Jones statue and the bat is way too tick to fit through the holes in his hands. I still love and buy McFarlane figures and statues because the sculpting is great, but I really wish they'd address that issue consistently.

I started collecting McFarlane during the scamdemic, mainly only the Batman's but I kinda wanted to start buying Legends soon since I've never bought one in my life, but only the Spider-Man's but looking at other KZbinr's reviews and even comments on Hasbro's Pulse own website about how the figures fall apart as soon as you open them, how the figures are gone as soon as they become available for purchase online and become very hard to find later on and scalpers demanding ridiculous prices for them in the aftermarket, the reuse of the same molds over and over again, the terrible paint jobs...and now the price increase...yeah I think I'll happily stick to McFarlane!

For me hasbro marvel legends articulation is more smooth and durable , the mcfarlane dc multiverse is more detailed and comes with stands and collectible cards which is always great overall I like both though .

I love both Marvel and DC and picked up 4 of the Multiverse figures. Stopped at that point. While they look good I just don't find them dynamic and with the difference in scale I can't do my dream DC vs. Marvel display I always wanted to do. For now I will stick with Legends but may pick up one or two future releases for my very mini dc collection I have in the corner.

I got on the Mcfarlan Train when they got the DC licence. I have Every fig and I will say this. I'm not disappointed 👍. They look great and there bigger. The detail is phenomenal. If there's a complaint it's that there's a Lot of Batman. But they all look good👍

im sure you have figured this out by now. but the ankles and wrists twist free of the hands so you can articulate them both left and right and up and down. mcfarlane does leave extra hands and heads to be desired, however newer figures like batman beyond ARE including extra hands. best figures to get right this moment in my opinion, red hood, batman beyond, thomas wayne batman, azrael, hell even the new death metal superman is badass. i just got the movie flash and he is pretty amazing for a movie figure

These figures are alot better than they used to be , like the original spawn . The newer ones from the past year are way better. Red Son Superman is an excellent figure as well as the Death Metal Batman. I like them and they look great on the shelf.

I’m a DC fan, but it was unfortunate that the 7-inch scale isn’t to my liking. I prefer the 6-inch scale to make them proportionate with other mainstream franchises. Fortunately, Mafex or Mezco gives an excellent alternative though they are more expensive. Great review, Bro!

My only DC figure is the SHFiguarts Wonder Woman (6" scale). That scale difference is really a roadblock to even taking a chance on any of these others. I've got a huge set of Black Series and Legends figures (and some 5" scale Walking Dead--why 5"?) that I'm not interested in collecting other scales that would limit photography options.

I just started buying DC figures myself after solely collecting Marvel Legends. They have great detail, I think even better than Marvel. But the figures are stiff, the BAF stiffer. I know there’s tips and tricks to get them to ease up but I wish we didn’t have to do all that. Still cool to collect

Completely agree I can't see what he means comparing the two. Mcfarlanes production looks good even next to storm, mezco and mafex, have comparable articulation to Legends, are cheaper and have more accessories as a rule, and are painted to boot. They are chalk and cheese, even compared to some of Hasbro's recent offerings.

I'm split on these. I got the Joker (in the process of modding the head sculpt,) the Batman (only because I couldn't find the Arkham Knight version) and the animated Harley Quinn (aka the only Harley so far.) Well-crafted, but I despise the scale. When my display is done, they're in a corner by themselves. Also, the Batman accessories are an open and folded batarang, a glue grenade, and the Remote Batclaw (weirdly enough, those gadgets are from Arkham Origins, but came with Arkham Asylum Bats. Quality. )

I started in on this line a few months back, specifically with the Dark Knights Metal iterations of Batman, but ended up changing my mind although I did keep Flashpoint Batman. Character connection was important to me. I like DC, just not in love with them. Mcfarlane did a great job. They are very good looking figures and represented well in overall presentation and I'm going to be selective on what characters I get. The upcoming Batman Beyond and John Stewart GL look fantastic!

Buy the Batman the Merciless BAF collection! That is absolutely epic, best BAF ever imo! That series just came out and most of the figures to build The Merciless ARE $50. Not to mention pretty impossible to find in stores. The (3) Crow Robin will be worth a shitload of money in the future.

From the ones you showed, I have not purchased the Flash, but I definitely will in the next couple of weeks. I do agree with you on Wonder Woman, but what was more disappointing was that her head could not move that much so posing her will be limited. The other disappointing one was Cyborg - it wouldn’t bend at the elbows. I did also purchase Harley Quinn. As I was trying to pose her, the top half popped right off!!! Fortunately, it popped right back on with no struggling. The same happened with one of Robin’s legs. If you are interested in other Batman figures, I would suggest Earth 44, the Grim Knight and Death ☠️ Metal Batman.

Multiverse has far better sculpts and paint but they lack a bit of consistency but that's ok, they're pretty new still, legends is almost 20 years old. With legends, you get loads and loads of half assed figures which make the good ones harder to find whereas every mcfarlane figure has a ton of love behind it.

Right now the DC Multiverse series is really Batman-centric with so many multiple versions of Batman. There are cool figures in the line. The Harley Quinn is awesome. She's in her classic jester suit. By the way, the Gold Armor version of Diana from Wonder Woman 1984 is a killer figure.

I live the Mcfarland line. Buy it think they gave to many versions of batman and not enough of the other figures. I wanna see more of the villains 2face riddle the pinguine lex luthor and also more superman and they rear of the justice league

I like Mcfarlane toys because I have a few DC and My Hero Academia figures but I think for DC imma stick to collecting Mattel because while articulation wasn’t great I just like 6 inches better

New ones come with BAF, as well as better sculpting. Dark Knights from Batman are top notch.

I love these figures. I picked up the flash as my first figure and I've slowly grabbed more as I find ones I enjoy or ones that are on clearance *gold label batman* hahah. The accessories fit tight for most of mine thus far. I agree about the hands, I wish they came with even one more set or were more posable like some of my transformers. The bases are nice but I've noticed they are not conducive to all posing styles since the base is not overly large, so lots of tipped statues hahah. Also since they use Batman as a main staple over and over I don't feel the need to complete a series or wave as much and can stay within budget hahah. I do understand why they use Batman so much though, it's like funko putting out a million Deadpool figures or why pokemon puts Pikachu on nearly everything.

The Flash that comes with the Double pack with Batman Red Death is Better. The upcoming Wonder Woman Dark knights with the Chain saw looks better.

Gale Godot’s? Lol. Great video as a new fan of action figures I choose DC multiverse because they are bigger and go for about the same price at least where I live. Also really disappointed with WW she is one of my favourite comic characters and what I have seen from picture I agree with you. Really hope we get a comic wonder woman with her regular costume.

Mcfarlane dc figures were made because dc collectables didn't want to the job especially if they didn't sell well lol, but I'm passing on the mcfarlane dc figures I know Mattel still owns the 6 inch dc figure license, and I'll be there once they launch it again. 😏👍

only a few mattel ones were good but not even close to mcfarlane mcfarlane has better articulation and details and better overall mcfarlane has them selling well

When it comes to McFarlane figures, I only go for the oddballs, not the “regular” heroes. Things like Devastator, Hellbat and the armored Superman can work fine in a Marvel display because they’re deliberately unusual and outsized

I'm not a DC guy, but I have picked up a couple. Deathstroke and Azrael both look fantastic. I'm kinda wanting the Red Son Superman, cause that guy looks great. McFarlane has also done figures for DOOM and Mortal Kombat, and they're great.

Agree on heath. I think the face and body on WW are fine, but those legs are so damn bad it distracts me

You got lucky and picked up some of the better ones there. First two waves had some real stinkers in them, like that WW'84 figure. It's gradually improving, but the articulation is still a bit off for me. Personally I'm only going for the ones I have an interest in and leaving the rest, which, to be fair, is still about a third of the figures he's put out so far.

You should buy the golden armor wonder woman she's actually a really nice figure, better than the regular version.
