Sony wasn’t a nobody before PlayStation. They were a premium consumer electronics brand. Executives didn’t want to make the PlayStation, because they were worried making a “toy” would damage their prestigious reputation. They were known for having the highest quality electronics. Some lower level engineers started working on it behind their back, and eventually they showed them and convinced them.

That's a cool story. Their philosophy for being a premium enthusiast focused brand can still be seen in their smartphones. And props to them for sticking to those values and core mission. Not to mention they have some of the best cameras in the industry, the best headphones with the best noise cancellation in the industry, televisions etc. And on top of that they have made the best console while still maintaining their premium status. Quite impressive if u think about it

Keep in mind the original PlayStation also came with a dual shock controller with two analog sticks. However, that didn’t happen until 1998. Also, PlayStation 2 controller not only has analog sticks. But analog buttons. Meaning if you played games like Gran Turismo three, the harder you push X, the faster your car would accelerate. Or you could even slowly let go of square when aiming your gun in Metal gear solid 2, and snake would lower it. Or if you release the square button quickly, he will release a shot from the gun. I wish they would bring this back in current PlayStation controllers.

Young gamers today will never understand how big a difference in graphics and technology the jump used to be in console generations going well back to the cartridge days . It's the old finishing returns thing but going from. Mega drive to a PS1 was amazing or PS1 to 2 those where the days

fun fact: the USAF operated something called the condor cluster, it consisted of 1760 PS3's. the reasoning? other supercomputers of similar power were roughly 10-20 times more expensive than just buying a bunch of playstations. at the time the Condor Cluster was the DOD's most powerful computer

Consoles already have, basically the only thing that pc has over console anymore is steam and mods. Mods are probably going to find their way to console at some point and steam games can be made into console games and put on the console specific stores at some point. Pc vs console wars are honestly kinda pointless now

@KrOnli Consoles caught up for like a month of the new consoles release, now they are again holding pc game development back. Consoles will always be at a disadvantage without the ability to be upgraded. As a whole, consoles do more bad than good to game development.

@KrOnli Like I said, right now, they operate acceptably, which I'd hope given their age, but they already outshined by mid range PC's and so early on in their life cycle. The truth is there's only one reason to buy consoles, and that's for exclusives, other then that, they can't compete in any other bracket. And with Xbox and Sony bringing their exclusives to PC, now the incentive to buy one is on its way out. People argue on the convenience of consoles but again it's not 2001 anymore where PC gaming took a lot of effort to setup, PC's are now trivial to build and setup and if they do run into a fault they can mostly be resolved by a part replacement or a few Google searches, while if a console breaks you may as well buy a new one.

One tiny little detail the PS1 did get dual analog stick controllers before the ps2 was released though years after the system was released. Though it is still true that the PS2 was the first to come with dual analog stick controllers at launch.
