That’s the thing. In some games, there will STILL be 30fps modes, just with more juiced resolution and RT like Hogwarts Legacy. If the console is guaranteeing more games ending up at 120fps (at least at 1080p) then it would be more justified but it really feels like they just want to charge $250 just to raise the resolution a bit and have some more minor details. This upgrade is really only worth it if you either don’t have a good PC (which to be fair is much more expensive but does more) or play almost exclusively PS Studio games that have unlocked frame rates and even then, the only games PC don’t have is maybe Spider-Man 2. GTA 6 I guess might look good on this, but without a better CPU most tech guys doubt it’s gonna be 60 fps. Spider-Man 3 will definitely be a PS6 title

The issue is there is no guarantee you can run games on fidelity at 60fps. It’s up to the developers. The current PS5 isn’t being used to its potential.

If a game is badly optimised, well that’s it, you can’t do anything about it other than toggle between the two visual modes and see which one runs better. I paid over £500 for a standard PS5 with a disc drive and upgraded it with an SSD. The Pro version, which is a non-disc drive model with minimal upgrades, feels more like a side grade rather than a true upgrade. Since we haven't yet seen the actual performance improvements, I'll reserve my judgment for now. At £750, it’s a significant investment, especially considering that the PS5 might be replaced in the next couple of years. This makes the decision a bit more complicated.

Add to that the cost of the disc drive at £100 (or $130, but it's only $80 in the US) and that's another $50 extra we Brits are paying. its the lack of disc drive that got me. I'm totally the target for this kind of enthusiast console but that missing disc drive finally drove it into my brain that Sony is moving away from physical disc. That's totally fine and all, but I can't be expected to trust digital purchases on a locked generational environment. Sure, there's backwards compatibility but that's not always a guarantee. “Ps5 pro” Come across your channel recently and i’ve found you’ve offered the most balanced view I’ve heard. I also like that your sensible enough to make that yes you can sell your ps5 on in order to part fund the pro which no one seems to have mentioned. This does drop the cost a decent amount. I’m personally quite excited for the pro, I do want to be able to mix higher quality and more performance as I hate having to choice and when I do it’s almost always performance. The fact games will generally run better even without a pro mode makes this more like a gpu upgrade and tbf those aren’t cheap in pc’s at all so I find the price makes sense. One thing I feel that’s not been mentioned is if an SSD can be added? I assume so as I’d like to move mine over from the ps5 I have now and keep my games without having to download again.

I got the non-slim I guess on run out before the slim was released but if I want to upgrade to the Pro I would be paying double the price of what I paid for the original PS5. hopefully there is a sale but that may be at least a year away before that happens, if it ever happens.

The lack of a disc drive is a problem even if you mainly play digital games. Most people I know use their consoles as Blu-Ray players to watch movies and TV shows. Owning a digital only console would mean that your entire Blu-Ray and DVD collection becomes obsolete.

All others I have digitally because that makes enough space for anything else, to be honest. And about the price, yes, it is a lot, I agree. But imagine you want to buy a TV, book a holiday, or anything else. I mean, the cost is bigger than that, to be honest. So, as I said, I would buy the PS5 Pro with a stand without a disc drive. That's all my opinion.

If you wanted a gaming pc with the same performance as this new ps5 pro, just the graphics card by itself would make up approximately 70-80% of the price of the ps5 pro. For around 900 you can get Pc good enough for majority of stuff. And lets not forget pc have no need of sub for internet, you can play older games(which is also paywall on ps), emulate like majority of consoles, custom settings, cheaper games(heck even free if you pirate) and what about all other stuff. Editing, programming, office, doing work, learning skills, creating servers? And also reason why pc is expensive is not even game related it's gpu for mining, ai etc.. Also not mention if you really want to max potential of your pspro you will def gonna need expensive tv or else this is no way in hell worth of regular ps5.

I’ve been waiting to get a PS5 for 4 years now. COVID hit in 2020 and they were nowhere to be seen. I joined the Army in December 2020 and kept busy. After the pandemic, I lost interest in getting a PS5 for a while until recently. I said to myself “I’ll wait for the PS5 Pro”. Here we are after the initial announcement and I’m a bit nervous about it. Money is no issue for me, fortunately but if Sony is expecting that kind of price tag, at the very least the Pro should include a disc drive

So IF it’s able to get 60fps, it’s because they’ve lowered resolution and upscaled. Digital Foundry did a breakdown of this and acknowledged that FPS is unlikely to be altered by a larger GPU.

Personally, I don’t see the need to upgrade. The current PS5 works perfectly fine for me. What really puzzles me is why Sony decided to release the Pro without a built-in disc drive, and if you want one, you have to buy it separately. On the plus side, I do appreciate the bump to 2 TB of storage on the Pro compared to the original 800 GB, but honestly, you can easily solve that by grabbing an extra SSD, which is super easy to install, for the OG PS5.

Yeah but then you have to worry about compatibility issues and terrible PC ports. I did PC gaming back in the day and just got sick of certain requirements. It's getting to the point where you have to either have a specific PC for retro gaming and an ever evolving PC for current or just pirate everything. I still have a PC for emulators such as RPCS3. So I won't judge anyone for their purchases but there are pros and cons to all formats.

Sony should've had two versions: $599-PS5 PRO Digital Edition $699-PS5 PRO Disk Edition w/Stand The Disk Drive Attachment is $80 & The Vertical Stand is $30. Together separately it's $110 but it'll be a reason to buy the bundled Disk Edition to save $10.

I honestly dont care about the lack of a disc drive on the Pro. I have a PS5 Slim digital version now . For me I just dont see enough of a graphical leap to warrant a purchase for me. I have already added a 4tb SSD to my slim so i have more than enough storage. I also game on a 27" 1440p OLED monitor and have no plan to switching unless it craps out. I just dont think the Pro is for me

having 60fps in quality mode is enough for me to switch from standard PS5 to Pro model, what's the point of spending time on a game if can't really use quality mode on standard PS5? Sony should've released this instead of the pathetic PS5 Slim version last year, but well, better later than never.

They didn't include the disk drive because they want you to buy the disk drive. Create problems then sell the solution.

The problem is that the ps5 pro isnt actually overpriced its still pretty reasonably priced now i know i am going to have some people say i am insane however to make a ps5 pro competitor the prices you would need a gpu similar to the ps5 pro which would cost $350 (rx7700xt) throw in a nvme M.2 2tb ssd which would cost $120, throw in the cpu (r7 3700x) which costs around $150 then the motherboard that costs another $80 then a psu which would cost around $50 (650w), then a cpu cooler which is around $40 (Since the cpu is a r7 3700x) and then the case with 3 fans+1 would be around $40 and the ram which would cost $40 that costs $870, yeah the ps5 pro with the stand is still cheaper

Btw I used Amazon to get these prices and I deliberately didn't look at the second handmarket since some of the stuff like the CPU and PSU you don't wanna buy second hand due to bent pins or faulty connectors

People really shouldn’t be judging the image quality based on low quality streams… also hardware accelerated PSSR is a game changer if it is at all comparable to DLSS
