Well, it looks good. The dings on the back suck, but they're on the back. Only a matter of time before a belt buckle could've done that. For $120, you're on your way on the path of many before you. Soon you can cut your own way.

"Not a modder"... I'd mod it. I'd mod it so hard. A guitar like that just screams to be modded. At that price, you could learn how to replace frets and all other maintenance without worrying about destroying the guitar... either you destroy the guitar, or make it 1000x better. Either way you learn what to do and what not to do. If you mess up and destroy the guitar, you're not out much. If you're successful, then you got a good guitar that didn't cost an arm and a leg (unless you had a mishap while working on the guitar).

Some people hate when you play cheap guitars through expensive Amps because it proves what I've always known. Great tone is more about the amp and a lot less about the guitar. I started playing in 1976 with a cheap guitar and an old Fender tube amp that belonged to my dad. Anything we plugged in to that amp sounded good.😮

For those of us who can fix the funcitonal problems, it would be better to find an old strat-like guitar (Yammy EG, Crate Electra, etc etc) for $50, and go from there. You'll find some that have a wonderful real Strat-like body and rolled necks, upgraded tuners, and some impressive 70's dirty sounding pickups. I love finding them, making them sweet, and then handing them off to kids to learn.

My Gearit Strat was $131C. No QC issues, beautiful finish, rounded and smooth fret ends, straight maple neck, tone and volume controls that actually work, steady sound, ok gig bag, extra strings, tuner, decent cable and a fun little amp with blue tooth. Totally surprised by how decent it is. Fender May be making an attempt to stay in the “value” segment but too little too late.

I bought an Amazon Squier a couple of years ago. When I got it, I cut the strings, took off the neck and sanded it to a matte finish, polished the frets, restrung, spent a bit of a time cutting the nut to the right depth, and intonated it. For the price it was an absolutely amazing player. The ceramic PUP's had a nice growly P90ish sound. Sure it lacked a little in the way of dynamics, but I loved it and actually played it more than my CS Strat. Sadly, my great-nephew really wanted to learn guitar, so it's now collecting dust at his house. I'm hoping by having access, he'll eventually get lessons. He won't listen to me 😂

Thanks for the review. I've seen many demos of this guitar and most of the players with negative reviews seem to expect the guitar to magically play for them. They can't play unless the frets are a certain size, the tremolo feels a certain way, gobs of distortion, they need to mod it, etc, etc. The sound is mostly in your hands; YOU play the guitar the guitar does not play you. I ordered one of these in sunburst a month or so ago and it's a wonderful guitar. In my 60's and play mostly straight ahead jazz with big arch-tops and I also own a Fender Telecaster, and a Gibson 335. I wanted a new toy just to goof around with and this fit the bill. I put a set of 10's on it and it sounds great clean or with my MXR Super Badass Distortion. The neck feels great too, not sharp edges at all. Some guitars will have defects no matter how much you pay for it, the same applies here. If you sweat the small stuff send it back.

I’m sure you can get a cleaner tone than you demo’d, but how is the Tremelo holding tune? That can be modded with heavier springs anyway, right? I would just play it 100% clean going through real spring reverb.

I guess it’s tough because yeah, manufacturers have been trying to find that perfect guitar that simultaneously inspires a new player, fan, and future loyal customer, while also preventing people who are gonna play for a week from buying the decent/good stuff and then selling it second at crazy prices to get rid of it. So I’m glad they’re trying, and that this is a guitar someone wouldn’t hate to own, but probably wouldn’t buy it for my kid.
