Sean, I'm freaking JEALOUS of today's beginners! How I WISH this outfit had been available when I first started out -- in the 1970s! I practiced on my solid body starter WITHOUT AN AMP for a couple of years before I got my first amp, which wasn't as good as the one that came with that Vangoa. If I could, I'd go back in time and drop one of these kits under my teenage self's Christmas tree!😎

I was playing at a pub this year, Solo on my Sire A4, my Sire S7 HSS was on the guitar stand right behind me. A guy in he’s late 50’s just stops and said to me: You really need to buy yourself a Gibson LP electric from the 70’s like i have. You would sound so much better instead of that blue guitar behind you. The funniest was, i haven’t even used that guitar yet that night and he didn’t have a clue what my guitar was. It wasn’t a Gibson, all that mattered! Maybe i would buy me a Gibson and let the 🧚 flow trough me like never before. Well i know. Sire are overhyped, but it is much guitar for its price just sayi’n. And i dang sure not gonna play better on a more expensive one. Speaking of affordable gear vs Snobs my guitar is best. Well. Its all about preference of own taste.

I know you are not a fan of locking tuners, but I would love to see you review the newer $169 Firefly Tele or Strats. I bought a Tele recently from them because I wanted to try a guitar with stainless frets. Where were these cheap, playable guitars when I was growing up?

The biggest issues with cheap guitars are that the consistency is often hit or miss if they ever make good ones and the long-term durability. If they will all be built to the same quality as that one then they might be a decent first guitar as long as you have someone who knows how to properly set it up.

I want to become a member, how much does it cost and how do it? I’m on Social Security, but I’m dedicated, I love seeing you build things and reviewing these guitars you learn so much. And I’m glad to see it passed on. I have nerve damage in my left hand and I can’t shred like I used to. I feel and ripped my shoulder out of the socket and broke my arm to boot. And I am almost blind. But I really enjoy the chats and the videos are no BS, not a bunch of drunk people cussing, we are raising our 13 yr old granddaughter and she doesn’t need to think that’s normal. I enjoyed your story about palm slapping that dude. I used to be a bouncer who tried to joke a drunk out the door. The most effective strike is a straight hand palm slap, with the heel of your hand. No need to break your knuckles. I had to take down some big belligerent dudes. People teased me about fighting like a girl. I said they might be smarter than we are?

I would still like to put a loaded pickguard with 2 humbuckers. In it, the 3,ceramic single coils are kind of weak. It needs at least a bridge Humbucker, and 2 Almico Vs . It has a very good neck. The tuners stay in tune. It is a very nice burst Stratocaster. It is very good plywood build. I think it may be one of those Japanese made ones, because if you look closely it is pretty well done.

I took my Epiphone EJ-200 Elvis Presley version into an authorized Gibson repair shop because it was buzzing badly. The guy wouldn't touch it; he said I had messed with it and voided the warranty because, he said, I had adjusted the truss rod. What? Adjusting the truss rod voids the warranty? Crazy. But I hadn't done that, not having spent a Luthier's worth of time on KZbin at the time; I had always heard it was something for experts only. After some weeks, literally, of arguing with this guy, I got him to call the factory - I had bought the guitar in the retail shop at the Memphis factory. They looked up the serial number, verified it and told the guy that they had done the setup on the guitar and that's why it was low and they told him to honor the warranty. It probably took him 10 minutes to fix it but I had to leave it with him for another 6 weeks before getting it back. Point is, of course we all know that truss rods aren't so secret and here's a manufacturer, or at least a packager, actually providing instructions for it. DIY has gone a long way - in guitars and not just guitars.

If I decide to add an electric guitar to my collection this could be worth trying. I bought a Vangoa 12-string. It was surprisingly good for the price. In your opinion do strats need two string trees or are they good with just one?
@PhillipBlanton9 ай бұрын
I don't know what Sean thinks, but in my experience only the B and high E strings normally need a string tree. If you install a set of Fender's staggered tuners, the G B and high E strings use a shorter post on the tuning machines which slightly increases the break angle for those un-wound strings, and that normally eliminates the need for a string tree. When I'm building a new guitar, I'll try it out without a string tree and if my high E string pops out of the nut when bending, then I'll install a string tree on the B and high E strings.

The fret wires on my Silvertone had green fret wires but medium Jumbo, and planted really well. The neck is perfect and no rocking frets and the bridge is tight! It has a nice finish, you would mistake it for real wood.,it is tobacco burst. I don’t know how they got the finish that nice. I hope that you got the pictures. I am torn on whether I should pass it on to my grand daughter ( daughter) or putting an HH pick guard in it for me. The pickups are weak. I just need a loaded HH pick guard and it will be nice and she’s 14 and is as big as her full grown mama who quit drinking and is in College after 5 years in prison. That’s my fault. My temper got me some time for busting a fella up pretty bad. I take the word of God seriously now though. It wasn’t really fair though just because I cracked a few skulls . I warned them to let me be. Messed up worrld, I worked hard, but I just had a terrible temper and once that last nerve was crossed, it was time to STFU. My daughter was the same way. Anyhow thats enough lip flapping, gotta make it happen. What would Sean do? I got a 9.5 radius and Strat scale length, and good tuners. Happy New Year to you and Cathy and little fella, and the whole family here. Everyone feel free to comment on my Silvertone plywood special.
