Everybody is always saying I should try a KISS setup. So I figured why not start with the best. And I bought Mr. Steele's quad for $900. But did it make me fly like him? Actually....

The motor & prop / light weight design is very much to do with how throttle responds. Kiss is good but I would say betaflight is “smoother” And handles prop wash better out of the box. Soooo since you’ve changed the rates. The tune would now need to be adjusted. Just a thought for you’re overall “review” 😎. Also your added confidence is most likely coming from the lower latency of the ccd. (Even though on paper they seem to be the same). & the motor prop complimentary throttle response.

Don’t be confused with my comment about beta flight being better out of the box. Kiss is still my preference because it has this “loose but locked” feel that nothing else has. Even fettec. Fettec is very close though. Beta flight is just robotic still to this day

the low throttle resolution does come from his motor-prop combo. He did explain some time ago when he switched to 6S that he's working on making it feel just like his 2350kV 4S. Those watermelon props are really part of it, if you switch to normal 5x4.3x3 V1S you'll see you already lose a bit of that resolution, the throttle becomes more agressive, but the handling improves a bit as a tradeoff

This is something I'm always aiming for. I only fly 3" - but ive worked a lot to find my perfect combination of weight, thrust, throttle resolution, grip/control, cam angle.

You would need experience hearing and seeing quads that sound / look similar to fully understand perhaps, but I know I can tell from looking at this footage, even if you can't.

After about a 5-year break from the hobby, I’m getting back into fpv, and your channel has helped me get back up to speed very quickly. A lot has changed. Its the props the lower pitch means the higher rpm at lower throttle and also motors spool up fast from light weight.

Steele is a great pilot but I personally find it hard to watch most of his flights, all the flippy floppys give me a headache. I would love to see him fly one smooth pack.

For a long time back in the day i flew kiss FC and ESCs and loved them. Still have some old Kiss setups and have a 2 modern kiss builds. On the track (hubby and I are racers first but fly a lot of freestyle as well) Betaflight is all we fly. When we freestyle 15 to 20 packs with our BF quads then fly a few packs on the KISS quads its such a different experience. KISS flies so damn clean so long as you have fresh props on that it's amazing. Yes kiss is amazing at handling prop wash with clean props when you tie that in with light props and 6s 2306 torque the low load props are man handled by the motors you have such fine resolution of throttle in the idle to 60% range that it gives a level of control that makes you not want to fly anything else. A clean kissed quad, 6s 1750kv 2306s and new light load props equal a thing of beauty that flies cleaner then even the best setup BF or any other flight for that matter quads... Kiss is a different experience in the air it really is.

I bought the Apex frame .. its the most stable drone I have ever flown ,,, but you will have to extend the 03 air camera ,, really have to change the way the camera sets in the quad .. I took thr front bars off and cut those two tabs you see off then zip tied it down ,, much better , the frame is big and heavy 1750 kv motors are the best for this quad because its heavy bigger motors drain the battery to fast

Hey JB, I fly both my own builds of steeles copters, alien and apex which I build and tune to almost exactly what Steele flies. I fly a bunch of copters on betaflight, aliens, chameleons and roosters etc. and I find that I can switch between each with no real sense of a difference, but I tend to tune my betaflight builds in much the same manner as I do my kiss builds. Was interesting to watch this video, I think it actually made a difference in your style of flying. Whether that's been a conscious shift or just you adjusting to his tune and build, IDK, but it was very cool to see. Have always enjoyed your channel over the years, keep it up!

Funny you mention the thrust always being there. I've noticed that with Steele's flying he can make lighting fast changes to attitude and its just on rails. I've always imagined him just setting up a sim to what he considered perfect and reversed engineered it irl.

I think a lot of the throttle control is the S3s. They're pretty amazing in that regard. Try the 51433 hurricanes on it -- I get better propwash handling with those but less throttle control. Also funny you noticed more propwash with beat up props, I was just thinking that the other day. I don't change props as often on my BF build, I just keep bending them back and everything seems fine. KISS seems to lose a good bit of performance as the props get wobbly so I'm inclined to change them sooner. Also Steele has definitely said before that his flying style really is just fly around fast and avoid hitting stuff :P You certainly looked more like steele than usual

Yeah, I noticed the beat up prop thing on kiss too - I'm flying a rigged alien frame with an airunit and my first flight on that setup was horrible because I flew with insanely chewed up props... Put new ones on there and BAM, felt like a different quad

Great stuff. You definitely flew more like Steele than you usually do - I noticed that before you decided on the theme for the three packs. When you said, 'do I look like Mr Steele?' I was thinking, that's a bit more Steele like - really hard, sharp turns, almost racer style. An interesting contrast would be to try to 'fly like Steele' on your usual rig.

I'm a kiss flyer, so happy to see you finally have a second kiss video lol. I know you said you prefer to know it all about one ecosystem and not a bit or every other, but it's so little what you need to learn from kiss lol. There are two things you said that you picked very right very fast. Propwash starts to be noticeable after props get damaged in kiss, and control after crash is the best in my opinion. Hope to see more kiss stuff from you. Btw I myself will never spent $900 as much as I like kiss. Building it is what my wallet allows me to do.

It's both. Steele has a very specific setup that he's been refining for a LONG time and KISS is specifically made for it's hardware, so it performs at as a homogenous wonder.
