​ @TheCarDoc the cost of iRacing is a bit of a myth- if you know what kind of car you want to race, you could pick one series, and race a season for cheaper than the cost of GT7, as you get discounts as you buy more content. iRacing gets expensive if you just buy everything and race everything, which is not even the best way to experience iRacing. Also, iRacing does not require an expensive PC setup (even in VR) since the graphics engine is old. If you want to race multiplayer, iRacing, RaceRoom, and LFM for Assetto Corsa Competitizione are the way to go. Having said that, the original Assetto Corsa on PC with mods is *the* best all-around sim racing experience you can get, since it's damn near free and doesn't require a monster PC.

not only has sim racing give me a racing fix but building and modifying my sim rig has replaced doing that with my car half the time lol. Went from having a play seat challenge and a belt driven fanatec to a 10,000$ rig with VR, 49 inch ultra wide, bass shakers, simucube, harness tensioner, and VRS pedals with some custom bits here and there. Super fun and no dirty finger nails

Once you get the taste of It becomes an obsession. I've started off a with G29 Logitech wheel which was good for like a year. By now after grinding out pulling in the work, I was able to get: Simucube 2 pro Secretlab Titan Next level Wheel stand 2.0 Heusinkveld Ultimate+ Audi R8 LMS GT3 Steering Wheel Along with my PC this is approaching 6k. Though Simucube isn't compatible with everything there are some work arounds with it. But even with better gear you can actually be slower than when you were with the logitech wheel.

Virtual Reality sim racing (Assetto Corsa) is the biggest jump I've made in gaming since importing the PS1 from Japan on launch to play Ridge Racer on a big screen. I'm someone who couldn't quite connect to 2D screens as the graphics got better in the last 5 years. In VR everything instantly made sense.

@@TheCarDoc1 I came here to recommend vr too. You don't quite get the detail as you would with monitors, but the immersion of sitting in the car is another level. I made my own transducers and use simhub for telemetry feedback. I'm hooked for sure. Our rigs will never be "complete".

I remember the first time I saw a racing game that had an actual steering wheel it was one of those old as arcade games that they had at the laundromat. This was back in 90’s and I remember going there just to play the game lol. That was my first taste of what “sim racing” would be like since the tech wasn’t there yet. That’s when I got my first racing wheel for the ps2 and it was magnificent even tho it had no FFB, a turn radius of left or right and the pedals were just buttons with no travel whatsoever it was fun as hell pretending to drive a car. Now I have a decent sim rig and I just couldn’t imagine having something like this back then sometimes I’m still shocked by how much technology has advanced.

I have an identical setup to yours but I got to say, GT7 is fun but see if you can get yourself over to the PC platform and aim for a VR experience. I think it would've been nice if you mention that you can attach motion simulators or things of that sort to your rig, which probably doesn't necessitate the seatbelts but certainly justifies their existence, especially when you consider that next level racing recently released a motion simulator and in-built seatbelts was probably part of their marketing.

first of all : congrats on getting that setup, that's a great set to have. i have a csl dd and a accuforce v2, both dd but the accuforce is twice as powerfull and gives a lot more ffb detail compared to the csl, thats just how those wheelbases work. more power gives more ffb detail even when you turn the power down to the same level. downside to having it is that you hooked it up to a console. im not trying to bash you for it tho. it's just the fact that you arent getting the most out of your wheel setup at all due to the limited feedback coming from a console. if you ever get a pc you will know what im talking about, your only getting about 2/3 of what a pc player gets in terms of feedback. having said that, have fun with what you have and onces again => congrats, that's a really good starting point into the blackhole we call simracing..

@@TheCarDoc1 I got a simucube 2 pro with a cubecontrol fpro, for the chasis a p1x from simlab with sparco grid seat. For the pedals, I got the heusinvelk ultimate+. It might sound like a lot for my first rig but I sold my car just to buy a sim rig, so I might have gone crazy, lol. I ordered everything from Europe and I live in Venezuela. I placed my order in July, I already got almost everything except for the simucube 2. I hope everything turns out as I hoped because it was a risk for me. I am looking forward for more videos from you!!!

You can try the simulation on the console, buy the first assetto, premium version (game + all dlc) and you will notice the change, possibly you will not like it when you return to GT7, Forza, F1 etc ...

@@TheCarDoc1 I am just starting in on sim racing as I transition into semi retirement. So to start I bought a digital PS5 and downloaded GT7. I plan on getting a full sim rig setup quite similar to yours, which I know will really enhance my experience. However, I am a bit confused on how/where to get started on the actual game. Right now I am just doing the Music Rallies. After about a bazillion tries I FINALLY got gold on the first one (the classics one), but only on beginner mode. Can you offer some advice? I’d really like to get serious about competing and leagues etc.

Forza fan girl, I personally consider forza more simcade, if you play with simulation steering and all assists off as well as tire and vehicle damage it feels pretty damn good with a wheel, cars aren't glued to the road like in nfs which is an arcade game, they just added in tons of assists to help there core audience which is people who play with a gamepad, but you can turns the assists off

Awesome video! If you are get into simracing even further i'd recommend buying a PC next. You will have a lot more games and software to play with. For games, iRacing is really good imo you can hop into a race with other people at your level easily, while yes it is expensive and the feedback isn't as good as other newer games(I think its only 60hz), people are a lot more serious about racing, i haven't had a lot of trollers in my experience. In terms of your setup its pretty much perfect for where you are only thing you should buy or look in to is the QR1, it's a lot better than the plastic one it comes with. If you have any questions be free to ask. :)

@@TheCarDoc1 i would recommend raceroom over iracing, it's not only cheaper but the force feedback is at least twice as good and way more configurable then any other tittle. i myself am more of a cruiser then a hardcore simracer so i also want to stress that having fun is more important then beeing the fastest guy and hating on simcade games like forza horizon 5 for example.

I bought the DD1 a few years back and I'm still loving it with no problems. I definitely recommend Fanatec to anyone. I have mine on a PS4 which real sim racers can't stand.😂 Too bad, I bought it for fun!!! GT7 and F1 baby!!!

Cheers from Chile, good video and explanation. Why you consider F1 22 a simarcade ? It looks to me more like a sim you need to be very precise in your setup and your driving, and the setup is quit a lot of work to get it right. And where do you categorize ACC ? Also I think you need some simracing gloves, it makes a lot of difference in the driving feeling.

You can never be too safe. Seatbelts and helmet are necessary in case you crash and roll your Sim rig.

If you play in VR, it's such a mind trick that seatbelts are the icing on the cake in feels. I can see someone designing a helmet that contains VR googles for the extra experience. :)

Get the QR1 over the plastic QR you won't regret it! Definitely a necessary upgrade, but nice setup man! That's how I started out when I got into the Fanatec ecosystem and it's a great setup! How sturdy is the NLR GT track? I looked at that but went with the Playseat Trophy and it's been superb

I would wait for the QR2 next year the QR1 is not really the best QR system at the moment, it's ratteling and has still some flex

@@TheCarDoc1 Don't bother. The metal QR just replaces one form of sloppiness in one axis with the QR Lite for the other axis. Wait to spend your money on the upcoming QR2 which will hopefully be tight everywhere!

See I love the idea of sim racing, then I see the investments required and I cry. Having to manage between many hobbies that drain my money such as video games, music, and music production, I find that this may be an investment I may consider in the future. Dont get me wrong, I don't hate racing games, as I've been playing NFS, Gran Turismo and Grid for the majority of my childhood. I just don't have the extra income yet to own a proper racing rig that isn't a wheel stuck on a desk. Although it would be nice to have one. Edit: I forgot to add PC component and peripheral upgrades to the hobby list.

I think that you can have just as much fun with a desk mounted wheel which is what ive been doing for years before a wheel stand and now a rig. I play on console still as its convenient and having a PC is another extra wad of cash.. gotta do what works for you! One day it’ll come hopefully 😃 Thanks for commenting and please do stick around!

You can spend as little as $200 for a Logitech wheel and pedals, and $100 for a wheel stand. Then just build over time. The wheel stand I got (GT Omega Apex) has the ability to expand into a full rig.
