If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)
If you want to know HOW I make my videos including gear, lighting, all the tiddly bits that connect it all together, (with cheaper alternatives and kit I used to use), I've listed each item, what it's great at, and why I use it on the gear section of my website here:

Otherwise: here's a quick list of some of my kit without descriptions from the above link:

Thank you sharing about how you used to find it difficult to keep a place tidy and organised in the past, I still struggle with this, so it’s nice to know that I can change and it’s not a fix problem! I often think because I’ve always been like this that I won’t change! x

I really find you to be a fascinating human being! Love how you research things like languages and less obvious things like how the sun hits your apartment. You are an example of the internet being used for good. Speaking like an oldie!👵🏻 I don’t think I ever commented on your hair but I do always think how awesome it looks and if I had seen you in person I probably would have made a comment because I think nice comments are always nice to receive. Never thought that maybe they are not welcomed even if nice! Food for thought…

I live in the North, freehold. I always advised my younger family members to avoid leasehold. It's a shame the gov did not change the laws re leasehold last year as planned. Over the last decade, these leasehold service charges have become a real scam. I think they should have scrapped leasehold. Multi ocupancy buildings (service charges etc) should be run by a non profit association of all the ocupants / freeholders. Then no one is being held to ransom. Happy New Year btw

A quick recommendation on German TV shows that you might enjoy: Dark (sci-fi/mystery), Babylon Berlin (crime/political thriller set in Weimar Germany), Deutschland 83 (spy thriller during the Cold War era). These are the best German-language TV series that I have seen recently, though I am sure there are plenty more.

@@evan I'm sorry, I truly just wanted to help. Since this is not a film/TV reaction channel, it didn't occur to me to look up if you had already seen any of the recommendations I made. I would like to bring one thing up, though. Do you really want complete strangers to remember every little detail about your personal life? Personally, I would find that creepy, but I guess it's just me. Anyway, I apologise once more, won't bother you again.

@@zhivik haha no, but pretty much anyone who knows me IRL knows how much I like Dark and try to get everyone to watch it. That and I even posted about my third rewatch quite a lot on socials/stories August-December this past year and have references to the show in a few of my vids. No woz mate. Maybe I shoulda ended my comment in an emoji or something ;) I've not made many videos about films/shows...maybe like... 4 or 5? Basically only when something I watch REALLY makes me wanna talk about it. Anywho, hope you have a nice tuesday!

Hair - can totally relate. 55 year old male, grew my hair out for the first time ever during the pandemic and haven't cut it since. Never once in my life did it get comments when it was short, but I now have strangers - so far only women - giving me their opinions. I'm not going to cut it because it's a useful psychological screening test for whenever I meet someone for the first time.

As a woman who’s had hair up to and beyond her waist for the first 40 years of her life and gradually shorter afterwards because my health ruined its quality, I’d say have the hair that makes you happy and comfortable with yourself. I remember when I gave it a big chop. EVERYONE had an opinion and it was tiresome. No, it wasn’t because I turned 40. No I hadn’t suffered a recent breakup. It wasn’t shiny and healthy anymore, not that it was anyone’s business. I’ve never had a definite opinion about hair length except this: if it’s clean and well cared for, it’s gorgeous and a joy to look at. The chromosomal makeup of its owner doesn’t matter. Cut it or let it grow, curl it, straighten it, braid it, turn it into to dreadlocks, shave patterns into it, it doesn’t matter. Similarly, someone can look absolutely stunning with a completely shaved head. All it will get from me is a compliment on how good it looks. Why? Because it looks good. I’ve often complimented people on their hair. Men usually are surprised but hey, it’s gorgeous hair or I wouldn’t compliment on it. They most likely are proud of it because they obviously take good care of it. Even if they aren’t especially proud of it and kind of rolled into having long hair, if it looks good it can make an otherwise crappy day a little less crappy. If they’re proud of it, receiving a compliment on something you’re proud of and/or like yourself is nice to get. I realise even a compliment is a form of voicing an opinion. That also means I have an opinion on the cashier’s gorgeous earrings, my neurosurgeon’s fabulous shoes (most stylish wingtips ever), the cleaning lady’s wonderful coat (saw it as she was coming in), or my daughter’s former Spanish teacher’s funky new glasses. Loved them all. So I told them. There’s nothing more behind it than me thinking “this looks nice!” and telling them. One thing I do firmly believe in: never, EVER give a compliment if you don’t mean it. And… for those people who feel the need to make negative comments on someone’s appearance… sorry. That’s just tacky. Edit: totally understandable you want to cut it. Besides: it’s YOUR hair.

Personally, I love long hair on men! The reason why we get comments on our hair length is because societal norms insist that a proper female has longer hair and a proper male has shorter hair. I always tell them that way back in the day, men had long hair.

Evan, I enjoy watching your videos and seeing your take on life. It's good to see some honesty on the platform. I'm so sorry that some people feel they are entitled enough to make comments about your hair, which is something that has nothing at all to do with anyone else. I find it sad that some people think it's OK to do that and that you won't be bothered, or that you'll get it all cut off because their comments ground your gears so much. I hope what I'm going to say next won't be taken out of context or anything, but I thought I'd let you know because I have long hair too and it's very prone to getting tangled at night as I'm sometimes a very restless sleeper. Via another KZbinr I watch (Charlotte Dobray), I bought a cap to wear in bed, just to keep it up and out of the way. They're described as bonnets or silk bonnets when you search for them and look a bit like a Tam o' Shanter when you're wearing them and all your hair is tucked up inside it. I bought mine from Amazon, if you decide you want to look into them. It's really made a difference as well! When I get up in the mornings I just have to run my brush through my hair before doing anything else with it and I don't have any tangles. My hair (which is bottom of my back length-ish) can sometimes be a nightmare to look after and brushing tangles out can sometimes be very painful if they're particularly bad. The bonnets are loads cheaper than buying silk pillow-cases and you can just screw it up and shove it in your pillow-case or pyjama bottoms pocket when you take it off. I hope this is helpful (if not, just tell me to shush 😁). Big congrats on your approaching decade too!

Not entirely neurotic Evan. In I’m my 30’s. The older I get the more I want things that are practical and do a good job. Possibly also have multiple uses. Rather than just having a TON of stuff I don’t use. Although I want things I’m more like- what is the quality of this, will I actually use it, does it look good, is it interesting, what does it do. Even with my collectibles I’m ditching the plastic mass made things like funko pops and I want more of things that are replicas or with Harry Potter stuff that feels like it is really something that would come out of the wizarding world (e.g. gringots coins or hand made replica potion books which Iv gotten off Etsy). I want things that actually make me happy and inspire me.

It's really sad that other people feel that your hair is their business. As a bloke with long hair I totally understand your plight albeit on a much smaller scale, like it literally doesn't affect them but they feel the need to tell me that it should be shorter, they can do one, I'll wear it how I like. Don't give in to peer pressure! But obviously change it up if that's what you want to do.

I can’t stand the feeling of getting strangled by my hair when I try to fall asleep so I put it in a braid or loose bun on the top of my head at night. As a woman I never got comments on my long hair but when I got a bob a few years ago everyone had an opinion (ranging from: “you looked better and more feminine before” to “you look so cool, it suits your face”). I have since grown it out because it was such a hassle to style it daily and get regular trims but every few months I want to chop it off again.

My cleaning/tidying hack was getting a robot hoover 😆 (obvs not accessible for everyone but it was just a cheap one we got in the Black Friday sales and it works surprisingly well). I'm chronically ill and have executive function issues and a kid so tidying up always seemed like a huge challenge. Now that I have a lil robot buddy (his name is Herbert Hoover 😆) it really helps me as it means I get started on picking everything up, the floors stay clean without the pain of hoovering and then it encourages me to tidy the rest of the things, too. From there I can basically keep more on top of the 5 minute room tidying rather than constantly being stressed and upset about it.

I don't have a lot of goals for this year but if I don't end up getting a full time job that takes a lot of additional energy, I'd like to relaunch my channel as an animation channel. Smaller goals are: take some fabric scrap and my favorite pair of jeans to create a patchwork dupe, help my husband with the office reorganization and start selling some collectables with my folks on ebay. Last year was fairly intense with the wedding, helping my dad sell his house and visiting canada for the first time so I'd like to do more bite-sized projects. We'll miss your sunday uploads when you take your break, but you deserve it after all this time being consistent for so long.

I think that because people watch your channel and get invested in your life in videos that they feel comfortable enough to comment on your looks (hair). Maybe the person who also commented at the Post Office (?) also knows your channel. Also I guess because people have seen you with short hair, medium and long that they prefer it a certain way or what they think suits you better. I have my own opinions and don't always mention them but I do love a transformation video where people go from one hairstyle to a completely different one.

I know you did not ask for hair comments but because you mentioned it I thought I’d say something haha. I never really noticed it before. Did you maybe have it in a bun most of the time? I find long hair on men can be a bit jarring but is also undeniably cool in many ways. If you are cutting it off I would just plead that instead of going for the full chop, try a few intermediate length styles as you’ve spent so much time growing it it would feel like a shame to go back to just short back and sides. I’ve always wanted to grow my hair to try some more stylish styles but could just never get past the awkward length so would give up too early!!! Haha I’ll stop now Great video 👍 have a good 2024 depending on my finals I might try out babble, as duolinguo didn’t quite do it for me when I started trying to learn Japanese a few years ago.

No one comments on your hair when it is short because you are fully conforming to their expectations. I choose to not care what anyone thinks - I truly fly my own way on everything. The only observation i find significant is that those who like me - do not judge. Period. I find my friends are infinitely more artistic and entertaining. My favorite analogy is one involving a good friend who gets upset by blatant ignorance, He literally gets very angry, He stomps, He bellows, He is loud and vulgar, and He has tears falling down his cheeks... But at the end of a tirade He laughs, apologizes for his behavior, begs forgiveness from those who do not know him and then buys everyone a drink/ dinner/ cakes etc. We all have a good laugh at the insanity of being triggered by a strangers behavior - instead of the alternative - confrontation! I love him to death for his passion and endless compassion! Truly a good man!

Unfortunately Evan if you want to live in central London with all the amenities close to you, you will pay a premium for that. Leasehold charges is a rip off and it’s always better to move into a share of a freehold in a residential block that is between 2 and 3 floors maximum. Choosing a flat with stairs and no lifts. Ideally the ground floor would be best. Maintaining lifts in a block of flats adds more costs to the service charges. It’s far better when the residents own the flats you live in and not a developer or landlord. Even better, if you move out into Greater London, in zones 4/6 with good transport links, you may be able to purchase a freehold property instead of leasehold.

Hi Evan, long time subscriber here. I don’t really comment on people’s videos but…. The hair… it is nobody’s business how long your hair is. If you do decide to cut it maybe look into donating it? It seems to be long enough and in good health so it might make a difference to somebody who needs it 😊

I think people with smallish spaces now must be happy that they are not having to spend a ton on high priced energy to heat a large space or having massive cleaning and maintenance jobs. Also people who move to large houses often end up downsizing at the end of their lives. Those with smaller spaces may avoid that hassle and expense.

The longer it gets the more likely that hard-to-reach bit gets knotted. Also, that moment when you get dressed and your hair ends up all tucked inside your shirt and stuck to any bits of velcro. I get ya.

I have a friend with long hair and everytime I present someone to him the first comment is about the hair. It's a curse that barbers spell into people for them to get annoyed and have more haircuts

I still find it amazing that landlords outside the USA allow you to make changes / improvements to their property. One of the main detractors of renting in the USA is that the places are basically dumps to start with and just deteriorate so fast because of this restriction and the lack of upkeep / repairs on the part of the owner

Fill us in on roughly where in London you are? From my base 8 time zones away London could mean Bromley or Croydon. Would you talk about what went into your choosing your particular location? I first spent time there in 1980 and I've been back several times. I can't get enough. I'd be more at home in Glasgow but as a place to spend some time London is in a league of its own.

Omg, I didn't know that people commented so much on your hair, that sounds very stressful.. My 2024 goals are doing my best to build my business, finish writing my books so I only have the publishing part left and be more consistent with my streams. That's pretty much it.

Sorry Evan but I'd like to add just one bit to the "long hair being annoying" part. When I had my hair long ('till 11-'22), it had gone to halfway down my back. I had to put it in a bun. Not just so I didn't pull my own hair as I'd lay on-top of it at night, but the tangles man.. The TANGLES. The pain I endured to get those out... Not worth it in the end, so I went bald. After a month I had my hair back even if it was only 10 mm. You won't hear me tell other people to something or other to their hair. That's their choice. Not my job. 🙂

I think you should PLAN on skipping the upload the next Sunday after your 10 year mark as a GOAL! The reason being that, if you don’t, you may unintentionally keep uploading every Sunday to see if you can make it to 15 years, etc. You don’t wanna keep that kind of pressure on yourself!

I totally agree with the DIY imperfection becoming moments of pride! I renovated my flat over the course of about a year and I got so sick of being let down by contractors I ended up learning to do stuff like tiling, grouting and waterproofing through google and tips from a handyman friend and saved a load of money from that! Yes there are some slightly wonky bits of cutting and finishing but I don't care because I can say I did it.

About the service charge, swede here, dont you have any organization keeping it in check? Maybe a noob question but in sweden we have "hyresrättsföreningen" that discusses these things yearly with the companies that rents out apartments to make sure they cant raise it too much.

About painting: One of the trades I learned after my career was over was electrician. So I looked around and this autobodyshop had an advert of needing electrician. So I contacted them and first question they asked: Can you paint cars? I told them that I did not but that they were not hiring a car painter but an electician. That was the end of that converstation. Three months later I saw the same add and contact them having the same conversation. Third time this happened I told them with clear words that they are wankers if they think that anyone comes to paint cars with the salary of an electrician. And they stoppede advertising for an electrician. But then five years later the same shop is hiring an electrician and guess what was the first question they asked me. Wankers.

If only women could avoid all the unwanted comments on their appearance by getting a haircut. It only makes things worse for us. "I preferred how your hair looked before!" "The new hair cut looks great on you!" "Why'd you cut your hair?" "How does your husband like the new look?"

I'm a man with long hair, having grown it long for 15 years. I love it being a conversation starter, especially with women, but I agree it's not for everyone and requires more maintenance than you may expect. I look shit with short hair, but you look great regardless of your hairs length, lucky git!
