Aw so cool that you got a mantis ootheca! I have 2 carolina mantids, just a warning be careful about humidity and molting because they can have failed molts due to low humidity and other things. It can cause elongated limbs and twisted limbs, twisted body, and other things like flattened arms. My carolina named Jagger who I found out is a female is currently experiencing this and all you have to do to fix it is tweezer feed them dead flies (amount varies on instar) until they can molt again and heal themselves. When i was a kid a praying mantis lived in our downstairs bathroom window. It was so cool and we just let it do its thing. Never seemed bothered by us. Eventually another one joined in for a while and then was gone....i didnt know until years later as an adult the whole female cannibalism thing lol. Regardless, they were awesome.
