I Bought the CHEAPEST R33 Skyline in Australia

Yo, a few things to help you out: - It's a series 2 engine. You can tell by the fact it has 2 connectors on the throttle body instead of 1 and there's no igniter for the coil packs. - You're missing a bolt off your J-pipe coming straight off the turbo. You no doubt have a boost leak there, which may be causing you to run rich, which could explain the flame/s and rough sound. - A common leak, near where you pointed at the rear of the engine, is the crossover hard-line that feeds coolant to the turbo. Check that, it's a common area for a leak. - The hoses you pointed to that you thought were for your A/C are actually for your carbon canister (that is missing), you'll need to replace that. - It looks like you have something connected in line with the hose vacuum line that goes to the fuel pressure regulator (towards the front of the engine, drivers side, end of the fuel rail). I'm not sure what that is but having anything connected to the FPR line is a bad idea, you should likely remove it. - You mentioned connecting the hoses off your two rocker covers. Do make sure you add a catch can at least so they can vent, or, even better, connect them back to the pipe that feeds air to the turbo, as that's where they should run (they're supposed to have vacuum) - The cable/plug that's just chillin near your air filter is for the stock boost solenoid (that looks like its missing). I don''t believe there's any harm with that given you run aftermarket boost control. - Your turbo is a standard 21U that comes with that engine. Hope this helps.

TaffPlays I said the engine is Series 2 and it definitely is. If the car is indeed a series 1 which might be the case it’s had an engine swap.

the water leak could be the heater valve bit on the fire wall, ive had a few crack the brittle plastic. replace with new or just put a brass barbed fitting to delete. But also had the turbo feed (which is what your talking about) leak on a RB20 also, again a barbed T piece worked here. if your doing all of this might be worth while replacing all the coolant hoses and oil filter heat exchange Oil seal. its anoying to do so enjoy. Apart from these thoughts this guy is on the money.

It's a Series 1 car, but its been swapped with Series 2 parts. The lights, hood and the interior (seats, door cards, etc) is all Series 1. The front bar, rear bar, skirts and rear boot lid (spoiler and the lock mechanism) are Series 2. Looks like a Series 2 engine as well. The Series "1.5" with the series 2 body came out in mid 1996, and full series 2 late 1996. I've had a few R33's and whining gearbox is **not** normal. The advice sounds spot on from listening to it, sounds like its low on fluid. I'd really drain it and replace the fluid asap to reduce the wear on it. From the sound of your idle, you might need to also check the IAC valve and make sure its clean, and check the BOV gasket/spring.

If the car doesn't exhibit any other signs of headgasket failure (water/oil mixing, running hot etc) than it more likely issues with valves sealing. Dont listen to people who tell you the pistons are trash, generally its people winding boost in on stock ECU and stock turbo. Japan had far better quality fuel in general in the 90's. The stock tunes on these ECU's generally are for better fuel to start with, then when people start pumping boost in from the stock t28 cause big IAT's they detonate like crap and crack ringlands. If the tune is good the pistons will be fine. My opinion from what you have said in this vid is valves. Do a leakdown test and you will know for sure. Good price though! very jealous!

s2 converted for sure s2 started in 96 as well as the s1 seats and s1 rear garnish also S1 RB25DET use an external ignitor rather connectors on the left hand side will be from the factory boost solenoid which has been deleted for the boost t

easiest way to tell if its a series 2 or not is the series 2 has a passenger airbag and the series 1 does not. the 95 model is a funny year as some series 1s came with series 2 parts. i own a series 1 skyline that came factory with a series 2 engine which is considered the series 1.5

Pull the head off. Have it machined flat, valves seats redone and fit a tripple layer metal headgasket and arp head studs. Then do the gates timing belt and a water pump and new thermostat. Front facing plenumn and spit fire coils. Then a 3 inch dump pipe, 100 cell cat, resonator and straight through muffler. Will sound good and be reliable.

Hell, I found a bit of factory foam still stuck in one of the under passenger seat vents in my car that pre-delivery missed back in 2003. lol. After that a good start is to change every single fluid.

Be sure to remember it's a drift car! They're bound to eventually getting damaged when pulling skids or tandem among narrow courses. I recommend not throwing a heap of cash, as bumpers and parts do come and go by the bucket load. **only writing this comment because I made the mistake of kitting out my 240sx that got totalled in a tandem :/
