I got into SAAB about 3 or 4 years ago after two decades of BMW and Alfa plus a load of performance cars. They’re fabulous! I’ve had 13 already. Currently have a super rare 2009 9-5 Turbo Edition Aero manual wagon and a 2005 9-3 Aero Hirsch 252. They’re both epic!

I had two og Saab 9-5 cars a while ago. Brilliant cars, built like tanks and deceptively quick. I had a T reg SE 2.0 lpt which was a really good family car. Drove this car down the M62 on a Good Friday on our way to a holiday rental cottage in Beddgelert. The motorway was empty, because of the public holiday, but without realising it, I was going at about 110mph. As soon as I realised what speed I was was doing, I eased off to get back to the speed limit. Seriously had no idea because the car was ultra quiet and smooth. The Aero is another level on top of that.

I absolutely love Beddgelert, go there almost every year with family! Some incredible roads around Snowdon too. Totally agree, they will accelerate to and cruise along at some impressive speeds with zero fuss

I really enjoyed the video. I had a newer manual version in the same colour with the 250bhp engine and a manual box which makes them so much faster. They are brilliant cars but, watch for sludge build up as a upgraded PCV kit is a must or it can destroy the engines. Personally I think having the variety of different content for your videos makes sense. Take care.

Nice, thanks for that! PCV 6 is on the list

Great buy Pal, I think the look of those 95 Saabs look the bizz, especially in the estate version, and a perfect beater car to keep, best wishes from Edinburgh, Bruce.

Nice video! A SAAB is a good deal if you have some mechanical knowledge and have got a specialist to fix the more difficult stuff. These things can last, are well built and most have got all the kit you would want except for BT audio (a donge fixes this). I`ve got 2, and the 2002 9-5 still feels tight and solid, the wagon has got a panel squak in the boot door, annoying, but I just stuck a washing sponge between the boot floor and the lid and it`s... better. The Edna Aero defintely is more responsive and sporty and with a 19T turbo is rapid, but the 2002 vector is lovingly couch comfy. Characterful cars. Unsolicited advice following: Regarding rust, these can be quite deceptive. They can rot through behind the rear inner wheel well plastic covers. Also the sill ends near the rear wheel can also rot and hide the bad well behind the plastic sill cover. Mine was a deceptive one, the arches were good, but behind the plastic the paint was starting to flake and the sealant gunk was starting to peel off. 2 years more in the winter and some holes would have been present. My biggest latest revelation regarding daily driving a 9-5 is that the springs can go bad on these with age. If the car is kind of unresponsive and the ride is stiff and crashy, new quality springs can definitely tighten the responsiveness and restore comfort. My Aero changed massively for the better after new Eibach Pro Kit springs. Barely lower, rides better, terrific improvement regarding handling and feel. The car now actually wants to go though corners, instead of feeling like I`m dragging it by a leash.

Really interesting, thanks a lot for sharing. I had seen on some of the forums how bad that rust can go behind the sills. It went into the specialist this week and they had a good look round it. Will do an upcoming video on it but the short is their knowledge was amazing and they managed to sort A LOT of things in under 2 hours, and inspected the rust at the doglegs and confirmed it hasn’t gone further for now which is a big relief. What I’m not sure on is when/how I should go about addressing the rust so it doesn’t worsen. Cheers for the tips 👌

@drivenbydatacars11 ай бұрын
Got this one on the list for a future video but in the meantime if you want the cheapest cheap 7 seater you probably want to look for something like a Vauxhall Zafira. As boring as it is they are plentiful so you can pick up some good buys. But definitely some other interesting picks out there

I have a 2001 Saab 9-5 2.3T Wagon auto w/ 100k miles in amazing condition, in my driveway. Runs and drives great, gets amazing gas mileage and shifts as smooth as my 8HP90. Doesn't pass emissions so it's been sitting for a year because the cost to replace the parts is equal to buying a Saab that already passes emissions here in California, USA

Late phase #1 has more soundproofing making door slams beautifully chunky! Also has internal release on boot hatch, glass headlights with wipers too and they are ULEZ. Don’t tow the four speed automatic very far though…

I had to laugh when I saw that the front passenger floor panel was disconnected. I have the same problem! By the way, I did not know that the shark fin could be replaced. Where did you find it?
@drivenbydatacars11 ай бұрын
Haha funny coincidence. Was able to fix it with a couple of interior clips 👌although was surprisingly tricky to line up the holes. I bought a replacement fin from eBay and it looks 10x better now. Will share in a future video
