I want to add to the check engine light: The Mazda MX-5 NA from 1990 came with OBD1, which means that there is literally no check engine light, so the car cant display one. The first MX-5 to get OBD2 functionality (with the check engine light) was the 1996 NA MX-5. To read out the error codes of your car, there is a diagnostic box in the car and you have to read the codes with a morse code light on the dash. Great video though!

Hey cap. I'm a 16 yr old who's just got his first summer job. Me and my friend are huge car guys and we want to try something like this (but not quite as destroyed 😂) we've got some basic tools, a garage, and hopefully enough money between us to get the parts to make it run. Anyways, my question is if 2 teenagers would have any hope of fixing a junker like you're going to fix this Miata, or if we should spend our money on a functional car and not risk buying a broken car/having to take it to a shop and spend more money fixing it than buying it new. Love you and will and I'm excited to watch this series!

I mean it all depends on the deal you’re getting, if you feel comfortable getting a bit dirty and having a car you might not always be able to drive than go for a project car! I can definitely recommend going for something like a Miata or a Civic that is easier to work on and parts are cheaper, and definitely go for a manual transmission because they’re much more reliable especially on older hondas. Me and Will have been working on silly old cars together since we were just 16 and we still learn something new everyday, KZbin will always be your best friend when working on cars 😂 Just make sure the car isn’t super rusty😅 Hope this helps! @@captaincrankshaft thanks so much for the advice man. It's really great that you guys interact with your fans, one of the things that makes you guys one of my favorite automotive KZbinrs. One thing me and my friend always prioritize is uniqueness. While I know civics and miatas are fairly rare when you're just driving about, they're two of the most common cars in the car scene. Two cars we've been really looking at are the Porsche 944 and an old mustang/camaro/corvette. We've both got dailys so if it doesn't run that's fine, and one of my stipulations was that it HAD to be a manual. Anyways, my follow up is if cars would be stretching it, seeing as even though they have big aftermarket support, it's not even close to Miatas or civics. Also, just because I'm curious, what was the first car you two wrenched on? Thanks again!
