A lot of motorhomes use a overdrive unit Mounted behind the transmission and there's a company that builds them called "gear vendor" essentially, it gives you an overdrive gear for every foward gear so you would have 1st 1 overdrive 2nd 2nd overdrive And so on It gives you a lot of options including using a much higher Final gear ratio for accelerating and it gives you an additional overdrive gear on the high end so that you have better acceleration without robbing you of your top end. Gear vendor builds them for anything from tow rigs to drag racers and rock crawlers. Drag racers love to use the old school two speed power glides because they are bulletproof and putting a gear vinder behind them allows them to have two overdrive gears one for each gear.

Its not that easy to drive since you need to learn the new gearbox style and two gear selectors. My issue is mostly running on certain gear most of the time. For offroad truck this makes sense as you are using whole range pretty much, but daily driver not so much. Still lovely little contraption and i wish some company made cheap couple gears and reverse boxes, but nope those are hella expensive what little is out there. Secondly this would never be road legal here. Just repair welding the subframe is automatic failure in yearly inspection. Seeing this, engineer would get brain aneurism and cause of this only place to use in is on the offroad side, maybe utility vehicle, but that also means it being diesel, witch there is very few around and completely out of price range of average joe.

One popular modification in the Volkswagen community is to take a Suzuki GSXR-1300 Hayabusa engine and mount it in a MK1 Golf [Rabbit in the US]. The engine fits perfectly, since it is approximately the same size as the Volkswagen EA827 engine the car came with, and it is easy to fabricate adapter plates. Since the early Golf was between 1800 and 2100 pounds, this 200 hp engine turns the little car into a raging screaming beast that runs with V8 Mustangs and Camaros.

Is this Garage 54?? This is a legit build. Incorporating a second transmission is nothing new but engineering it for this purpose is a stroke of genius. I would question matching up the gear ratios but it's probably fine in a Lada and makes the whole project especially interesting. That fabrication work is also no joke. You guys seriously stepped it up this time, there's real potential here . Please keep this project going.

sick build. just a warning though, motorcycle engines and their oil pan are designed for leaning during cornering. if you thrash the car hard in corners it will starve the engine of oil and lead to spun bearings. a dry sump is the way to go unfortunately. superfastmatt has done the same in a honda s600 chassis. keep up the good work.

If you can somehow get hold of it in Russia, perhaps you might want to swap a GR Yaris motor into the Lada. It's 1.5 liter and produces over 250 HP. Alternatively, perhaps a Fiat 595 Abarth engine might be a better fit...and probably more appropriate, since the Lada is just a Fiat 124.

@@vistakay Thats a significant amount of torque. Im not disputing your point, all things evolve. Dont forget you are comparing a 25 yo sport tourer with a modern superbike. Sport tourers in general are much heavier, larger, and have more torque due to the larger displacement. This alone makes them a better choice for a car conversion. The golden era of superbikes was in the late 90s-early 2000s, and even though the new bikes have higher effect, dont underestimate the torque on the golden era bikes. This is awsome! Actually motorcycles use the same type of gearbox as those found in sequential cars. The main difference being that on cars you usually find throttle blippers and cut off. Which is doing the same as just letting off the throttle. Modern motorcycles often have this though, it's called a quickshifter.

Wow that's probably the fastest Lada in the world! Very cool and well done. Here's a follow up idea: Adapt a couple of sport bike engines to FWD transaxles for an AWD twin engine project. You guys could pull it off I'm sure.

Totally awesome ! Car enthusiasts in every part of the world can appreciate this. Speaking of which, I wonder what certain car collectors would pay to own a build like this?
