If you talk towards the top of the BM800 microphone it won't sound good. You have to talk into the membrane, so the correct side. It's not omnidirectional so it sounds bad when you talk towards the top r towards the wrong side (the back of the membrane). Also, a Phantom Power improves it a lot. Please try recording it when you talk into the correct side.

I have one of those mass produced £20 packs, it sadly runs via XLR to AUX. Would switching the cable to XLR to USB help with the noise it produces or is that the down side of a cheap mic? What can I do to get decent audio quality without spending my life savings on one of the top tier mics? At the moment I use Voicemeter Banana to tweak it to a reasonable level but the constant hiss is a problem :(
@memz_dev2 жыл бұрын
my dad bought me a xlr to usb mic for my birthday, i bought a fifine 4 days after, that should say enough.
@TheVideoNerd2 жыл бұрын
You would need noise reduction to get rid of the hiss. Not sure if you're streaming or just doing voice calls. If you stream, watch my 'make your mic sound pro' video on obs. If not, I'm sure you can find a tutorial to add a VST noise reduction plugin to voicemeeter banana. Then use an equalizer plugin to adjust how it sound & you should get it to a usable level. Another cable won't help. What would help is connecting it to an audio interface but at that point you can just buy something like the hyperX cloud, the fifine k669b, fifine ampligame, etc.
@memz_dev2 жыл бұрын
While the switch to xlr is well worth it, its gonna cost you some more generally speaking, just know that once you do get your hands on a good interface, you can use it on pretty much every xlr mic. Correct me if im wrong but the decent cheap interfaces start around 60 bucks, there is a xlr mic in the description of this video to go with it. But honestly i doubt the cheap xlrs to usb are gonna sound great on an interface, so you're gonna have to commit to a new mic at that point aswell. I'd love to see someone try it out tho 👀

Well instead of all what, what you really should do is get a mic from behringer (i use behringer sl84c), get an audio interface (behringer uphoria um22) , and a microphone arm to hold it up. You will pay a bit more than most of these mics but you will be pleased with the results. Everyone ingame asks me if im a youtuber or a streamer thats what i got.

Hello a bit of context, with Mic 8 and Mic 9, both are called "BM-800" and there are variations of the same mic because of what you said about brands buying the same mic but adding their own name and bundling their own sound card and accessories like the mic arm. This mic has been very popular here in Asia during the start of the pandemic because of its cheapness. Although now this type of mic has been decreasing in popularity since the world is slowly opening up again and is now being sold for cheap second hand. It would be interesting if you would disassemble the two mics, because so far there are two variants of the BM-800, the one with a bigger pcb board and mic diaphragm/membrane is the original one according to the OEM. Also, pairing the "original" BM-800 to an audio interface with an XLR to XLR with phantom power is better than using an xlr to aux cable and usb sound card. also talk to the front of the mic not the top.

No offence, but I really don't like the aggressiveness of the cuts in this guy's videos. While minimizing dead space is good, there should be a slight gap between sentences. To me, this editing style gets really annoying quickly, as it's just constant talking in my ears.

@@TheVideoNerd Yeah, in my videos I do aggressive cuts mid-sentences so it flows together. However, I try to leave a small gap between thoughts.
