For low budget mics who have strange noice, like "bzzzzzzzzz" do next: 1. Find Audio Mixer 2. Find Mic/Aux 3. Press left click on three dots 4. Click on Filters 5. Add Noise Suppression 6. Click on Method and choose RNNoise(good quiality, more CPU usage)

Good tips about compressor and expander, but: 1) For better noise reduction, configure your mic to 48000Hz/16bit format and position RNNoise first in the list. 2) RNNoise uses CPU and not very CPU intensive, but very effective. 3) Gate can be very useful too. Noise reduction -> Gate/Expander -> Compressor -> EQ -> Limiter

I can't express how thankful I am for this. I've been fiddling with VSTs (reafir, noise gate), RN Noise, RTX Voice. I also have a SM7B. I always used the Compressor, but I had never used the Expander before. This eliminated my need for a Noise Gate. My voice actually comes through properly and I don't have to worry about keyboard clicks. My voice is pretty bassy and low, so it would get cut out from time to time. Right now, I just have those two filters applied since I don't have need for EQ. Thank you again. Love you 3000.

This was a quick, thorough, effective tutorial. It was easy to follow and worked like a charm I will say for anyone who sees this, make sure you listen and tune your own mic and dont copy his exact values for threshold, gain, and even attack. If you find that when tuning the expander you had to turn your threshold wayyy up to get rid of keyboard clicks and background noise, then you may have had trouble with your mic not activating as soon as you start speaking…. If that is the case adjust your attack on your Expander filter, if your words are being cut off at the end of your speaking, then adjust your Release in your Compressor filter. Good Luck 👍🏽 and clean sound to All!!!!!!

Also, remember that the order of the plugins/filters actually matter! It goes from top-to-bottom. Typically to get a very good low background noise sound, go in this order: Noise suppression Expander or noise gate EQ Compressor Limiter This will most likely fix the constant hiss of the mic too, since that was boosted by the compressor in the video, before it was suppressed. Just a small helpful tip from an audio engineer. Aside from that, great video! The way to set the compressor settings is actually really clever. I usually load up Reaper and make a preset there, and just load that same VST into OBS, but this really makes it easier. EDIT: Compressor and EQ can be interchanged, and sometimes rightfully so, since a very agressive EQ curve can potentially affect how the compressor clamps down on the sound source. Test and see what sounds best to you. Also add a limiter at the very end of the filter chain, to avoid unexpected peaks to clip your sound. Even if it looks like it doesn't do anything or it doesn't react. I would also look up something like the Dead Duck channel strip, since it has basically all the processing in a single VST that you'd need. (Use the Dead Duck Channel 2, as the other one will add 5ms latency to your signal) Sidenote: it is fine to add the same filter more than once, if you need e.g. multiple EQ's or multiple compressors. But do be aware that in this case, less is more. If you have to use 5 EQ's to get your mic to sound good, then it's probably about time to get a different mic.

Raising frequencies below 60hz (especially 20hz) is a complete mistake. Most people use devices (headphones or low-level speakers) that can't even make those sounds heard. Increasing those frequencies without the necessary analysis increases the softness of the voice but lets out the resonances generated by a possible untreated environment. A similar thing occurs with higher frequencies. Most people struggle to perceive frequencies higher than 16000hz. Above 20000hz we touch frequencies that the human being is not really able to perceive.

The bottom line is is that there are software out there that can seriously change one of these cheaper low-end mics into sounding a lot better than when it would initially, but in reality a $400 sm7 bee is a thousand times better than anything you can get out there not only that but pretty much anything over $100 is going to get you close to this guy's my quality mind you majority of this video even the part where he talks about adjusting the my quality he still using the $400 microphone he only ever uses the cheap one for like 4 seconds and this is like every video he does with these cheap microphones he has like six or seven videos saying oh perfect OBS settings to make your mic sound professional and blah blah blah blah blah he's like a thousand clickbait titles in the end like I said before if you just save up 200 bucks and buy you a good dollar microphone you are never going to be disappointed with it you don't have to buy the 400 dollar sm7b but when you start getting into microphones like that where you have three or four $200 microphones the moment when you get something like an sm7b where it's just God like compared to everything else you start to realize oh yeah there is a difference but it is not the difference for the audience it's a difference for you and that's what I've come to realize is that it it doesn't really matter how good you can get your mic sounding as long as you can get sounding good enough at a certain point that no one could complain about it or rather I mean just anybody could just complain about it

Expander is set to 1.6 ratio, threshold 0, attack 2, release 100, gain -4.3, Noise suppression RNNoise. With these settings using a blue yeti. It could be my key switches, I don't remember what switch color mine is, but they're louder than I like and it ends up being really loud on stream and transferring to my mic.

I was going to try your settings for my new Blue Yeti but I first decided to use them on my cheap G331 headset mic I have been using to make videos for months now. The improvement over my old settings is night and day. The quality is clearer, voice louder and even managed to get rid of esses that bugged me to no end. Thank you very much man! You the GOAT! And BTW I've seen dozens of these videos and you're the first one I've seen that shows exactly how the compressor actually works

I followed the older tutorial for SLOBS and I had a problem with the picking up my first and last letters. It didn't sound good. I tried your updated tutorial and I am glad you mentioned the purpose of the "Ratio" for the "Expander". It is absolutely a game changer!! I lowered my value to 1.5 instead of 4 and it sounds clear now. Thank you!

Unactivated Windows. A true man of culture. Edit: it's a great video man. Audio is 90% of the battle. Thanks for helping those with the cheaper mic setups!
