After QA checks and pricing banter, they award the contract to one or maybe 2 factories. But the losing factories don't always destroy the original specs. Sometimes certain managers/employees of the losing bidders just do a bit of a special run.

7:11 you can see that the fake pair (left) back is more curved and the swoosh is different also. The real (right), swoosh looks a bit larger and the tip comes up closer to the laces. Union swooshes are different than even real regular AJ1’s. Chris Gibbs if Union LA, wanted to go back to the old school Jordan 1’s where the swooshes were a little larger and shaped just ever so slightly different.

I've seen a documentary about these replicas. They are made in the exact same factory that make the originals, using the left over materials, thus called "Unauthorized Authentics" or UA. You cant really tell the difference. Even if you take 2 "authentic" pairs and try to do a side by side comparison, it will be impossible for it to be identical to the tee because like you said, they are hand crafted. In other words, why be a dumbass to pay retail when you can get the exact same thing for a fraction of the price.

It’s crazy how close them can get to perfecting an authentic pair.
