For everyone who is still having issues ordering Jeans online. It’s more than just the sizing. Ignore your usual size!! Look at the size chart and compare the rise, waist and inseam to your body measurements. A low rise usually means larger size, high rises lean toward smaller. Material also is very important, does it have stretch or not? Measuring tapes are a few bucks and it changes your online clothing game. “Usual or True to Size” means nothing. All clothes fit differently.
@natatatt
@natatatt 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I don't care what the size # says (and not saying Carrie does) but it makes life easier if I ignore the size numbers, just go straight to the sizing chart and select off the measurements there. I can be 10/12/14 depending on where I buy from, and the only person who will know what size I'm wearing is me.

@@Cmm474 it definitely doesn’t work for everything. I lean towards too big and learned some simple alterations myself. Obviously it isn’t affordable to everyone but off the rack clothing doesn’t fit a majority of people and that’s where tailoring comes in. I used to work at a dry cleaners as the counter associate when I was 19 and all kinds of people got clothing tailored. Not just fancy well to do people in high end brands. There’s some cool KZbin videos about the history of sizing and the beginning of mass rack clothing ☺️

My biggest issue with extended sizing for jeans is that they have so many gaps! This isn't only at A&F, almost every size chart I look at is like this. Basically, 00-10 will be the same size as their measurements. So a 25 is 25 inches, 26 is 26 inches, etc. But for some reason when you get to size 12/14 and up, the inches start skipping. So a 32 will be 33.5 inches, 33 will be 35.5 inches, 34 will be 38 inches, etc. This makes me so mad! Like just because we're bigger doesn't mean we don't need one-inch differences in our clothes. I'm typically 32 inches, but I find that sizing charts will either be 31 or 33 inches so jeans are constantly too tight or too loose for me. And I know I can't be the only one. I know they're trying to cater to more plus-size folks, but who are they really helping with all these gaps? Especially since standard sizes don't have them.

Just a PSA! As an Optician, I just wanted to touch on online shopping: They usually do take into account PD (how far apart your eyes are, which is a # that doesn’t change) but they can’t consider OC height (where your eyes sit up or down in the lens, and changes frame to frame) since you can’t try on the glasses. Which shouldn’t be an issue if your RX is small. But if you’re super blind like me, you might notice some vision issues because you’re not looking through the optimal area for viewing and it can lead to prism vision issues. Just thought to mention it! I’m done now lol. Not to say that isn’t a good sponsor of course!! Just please be aware if you’re a high RX it may not work out super perfectly. Ok ty bye 🥺💓

Now, I’m also in their reward points thing so I get $5 or $10 off coupons pretty often and those always come in handy. They also used to have 10% off in all orders when you use your AE credit card but looks like they got rid of it? I’m not sure, but I definitely got advantage of that. I feel like low or non-stretch jeans are tricky. Abercrombie has a standard and curvy line to accommodate different body shapes, but when the denim is stiff it's pretty impossible that it's gonna fit everyone. But my suspicion is that their plus sizes are just larger versions of the "standard" sizes, which doesn't always translate well.

Completely agree. 100% cotton jeans can be a big issue especially if they are, as you said, just larger versions of the size 0 or whatever. Unless they are more of the curvy fit, us thick thigh girl have issues because they are so tight on the thighs and then I could fit my whole fist in the waistband.

I wouldn’t recommend sizing up even if they’re a tiny bit snug at first! Mine were a little tight when I first got them but they loosened to the perfect size after I wore them for a few hours! Edit: I also like my Abercrombie jeans more than my American Eagle jeans because the Abercrombie’s don’t have anything on the back pockets. Sometimes the design on the back pockets of AE jeans kinda “ruins my outfit” if that makes sense lol. I much prefer plain butt pockets so I love that Abercrombie does that

Corporations have the money to hire a bunch of different models with different body sizes, for example a 5’0 model who is a size 16 and a 6’0 model who is a 16, so they can incorporate as many different body types per size as possible. It’s inexcusable at this point that they don’t. Small businesses obviously that’s harder, but with huge companies like Abercrombie there’s no excuse.

Hey Carrie!! I used to work for Ambercrombie until 2 months ago and I am so happy to see you do a review! From being a Abercrombie Jean lover for 4ish years, I’ve gotten to learn the different styles, fits, materials, and shaping of AFs jeans. I’m usually a 10 but my weight will fluctuate during the year from an 8 to a 12. I have found that AFs most stretchy Jean is their super skinny. The Jean blend contains more elastic so they stretch when ur putting them on but hold their shape and structure when wearing them(personally I suggest sizing down bc if not then ur gunna be pulling ur pants up all day) The Jean legging is even more stretchy. Now I used to be an only skinny Jean girl but when I finally dabbled into the mom Jean I fell in love! Abercrombie’s mom Jean, straight Jean, flare, boyfriend, and bootcut do not have much elastic in their material blend. I find that my AF jeans fit similar (if not better) than my Madewell jeans. When u first put the Jean on it’s going to be a little tight, BUT wear them around the house for a good 3-4 hours. They will start to relax and won’t be as tight anymore. Also, they don’t give saggy butt when it starts to relax. For the mom Jean, I did size up to a 12 and when I feel they are getting a little big I either throw on a belt or wash them to “shrink” them back. As for the difference btwn the straight and mom Jean you tried on, the straight I think you said was a super high rise and the mom Jean was just a high rise. There is a big difference, about an 1in to an 1 1/2in difference. The high rise will sit a little higher than a midrise (for me it sits at my love handles). The super high rise will come higher and will help create that “hourglass” figure without being a curvy Jean. I hope this helps explain some of the sizing. Now work for Loft and they too have weird sizing. I find that their jeans don’t fit me as well as my AF ones do. Also, I am very aware of how expensive AF can be... ya just have to shop it right. When u make a purchase, u get a survey to complete(no they don’t sell ur info) once u complete the survey you get a coupon for $10 off a $50 purchase (and yes it applied to clearance items). Also, you could sign up for their rewards program and get a $10 off $50 reward then (they can’t be stacked) just keep an eye on the items u like, watch for them to hit clearance and wait for clearance to be an additional % off! Then u can apply ur $10 off $50 and u could even do two separate purchases if u wanted so u would save $20.

I ordered some mom jeans and skinny’s in a 37 and everything fit very well especially considering non stretch denim which never normally fits me (I got 4 pairs). Better than AE who’s pocket’s always plop out for me. They could add a few improvements, maybe higher rise.. but overall I was super impressed and if you shop sale/clearance it’s really worth it!

They actually have quite a bit of stretch and have been able to accommodate an extra 10 lbs. Even if they are a little tighter. Now I do struggle with their normal denim sizing, but that's just because of the cut of the denim.

I'm from New Zealand and the US sizing fascinates me. A US size 16 is an NZ size 20. There is NO WAY you would be a size 20. Here you would most likely be a size 14 (maybe a 16 at a stretch) which is a size 10-12 US. It's amazing how different sizing can be in different countries.

Try the curve love in them. The curve ones actually give you so much shape and the stiching really accentuates any curves you may have. I have many pairs and a short waist so the high-rise, curve mom jeans are my fav! If you have a long torso, a med-rise would be (and looked) amazing for you in the mom jeans, because those have a higher rise already than most and the more straight leg. Also, as someone who has had to learn to love my mom-body, I wear an 8/10 which put me at a 30/31 and so in sizing up, I ordered a 32 and it was ridiculous. I think keeping your size is more appropriate for larger sizes as we might be used to being snug in our jeans lol But even then, a 30 was big too so I have found perfection in 29L (thought I am 5'2") in the Curve love jeans and shorts!

I’ll be real I absolutely never touched Abercrombie when I was in school but I buy from them so so much now. The crop tops are always the perfect length, the construction is better than my other fav madewell, and at least in the mid-size range they are VERY tts. Tight for the first hour and then wear in to the perfect size. I have tried both their regular and curve love in both jeans and shorts and they’re great. I can’t speak highly enough of the seamless tops and anything linen-like. Hop on any second hand sight and you can find a lot too! Cute and v trendy without being urban outfitters levels of skimpy and flimsy.

The tightness is usually BC they’re 100% cotton, so I wouldn’t go up a full size; they’ll stretch a little as you wear them, and you don’t have to wash jeans after each wear, so they’ll feel more comfortable the more you wear them. But you should always wear what makes you comfortable and happy, so if you don’t like them, then ditch em ✌🏼 Also, congrats for coming out! You’re such a joy to watch dude 💜😊

They used to go only up to size 12. Also little tip, the lighter washes typically run a little bit tighter. It depends on the type of denim they use. Because I found a dark pair that I loved but also had absolutely no stretch. It all depends on the stretch. But overall I have found that a&f light wash jeans are usually not as stretchy.

I love their sweats. If you are on the cusp of a size go up. They may even seem tight on first try but they stretch out a bit even though they aren’t stretchy. Also I loved the second pair of jeans on you! The wash was nice!

I honestly can't get past it with so many of these brands. Like even designer brands like Valentino (? I think) started having extended sizing, now this brand, and a ton of others. To me there are so many brands that started out with plus sizes or started having plus sizes a lot earlier and did a good job. So to me, I am voting with my wallet because these people already voted against me with years of making me feel like crap, giving people reasons to make fun of me, and don't care about me just my wallet. However, I still appreciate that you tried them out and have no judgment for people who want to buy this brand. Just not for me.

Carrie, since you like more room in the waistband, you might like button extenders for your jeans. There are a few different styles, but they loop around the existing button and give you an extra inch! No shade, just trying to help you wear your wardrobe!

Hi Carrie! I actually just ordered 3 pairs of Abercrombie jeans - first time ever trying them. I got 1 ultra (or super, I forget the name) high rise and 2 high rise in super skinny styles. The ultra high rise was very tight and uncomfortable, while the high rise were perfect. All were size 31L - so I had the same situation as you. I really loved the fit of the high rise, but also agree is it's more of a mid-to-high rise - not quite high. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah the old CEO was a major jackass! The new WOMAN who is rebranding A&F (was in charge of rebranding Hollister and did it well apparently) has made a lot of steps to make the clothing more “inclusive, mature, and better quality.” MK sure. But I tried a few sweaters from them this winter and am in love which is shocking because I always hated A&F as a teen. I’m a 10/12 and their large fits me really well. Hopefully they keep adding more and more sizes and stay far far away from their 90-2000s branding of sexualizing children and tiny tiny clothes.

Even with more inclusive brands like American Eagle, I feel that it’s still pretty exclusive. In my past, I’ve been a true 14/16 for a long time. Shopping at AE, you aren’t able to get size 16 in store, so basically I couldn’t go to the store or shop with my thinner friends at the mall because they only offer those extended sizes online. I guess that’s why I became an AE girl because I could order them online and get the sizes I needed. Abercrombie & hollister sadly didn’t do that and I agree that it did traumatize many of us thicker girls in middle and high school.

Just a reminder to everyone that those checkout or cashier prompts to round up your transaction or donate X amount are SO amazing. BUT the corporation usually is doing it for two or three reasons: 1. They genuinely care about the mission of the foundation 2. Positive PR for how much they donated 3. Huge tax breaks for charitable donations (none of which they had to front the money for because it came from your donation) If you like one of these organisations, consider going to their site and donating the $5 yourself instead of helping a massive corporation get even richer.

I think sometimes people don’t pay attention to material/fabric when it comes to clothing, especially denim. I’m normally a 12, and in stretchy jeans/curvy jeans I size down to a 10, whereas denim that’s more rigid/non-stretchy like these, I go up to a 14 and even a 16 sometimes. I think paying attention to the fabric and also reviews are really important with online shopping, the extra steps are one reason why I miss trying on clothes in-store 😭 I liked both pairs of jeans, but whew not for $100 🤧

The second pair looks good, especially the color but if it's not The One, you can't force true love! If I'm spending $100 on jeans, I'm not paying for holes in them though EXCEPT AE since those jeans are made from jean butter. It also took me 31 years of life to decide if I can’t easily zip them up or sit down comfortably, those jeans are not for me! It’s like women went from having to strap our chests down with corsets to now shoving our thighs and mid-section into unforgiving denim. Have you tried jeans from Calvin Klein? I thrifted two pairs and I'm obsessed. The sizes are tricky though, I'm snug but fine with the 8 and no issues with the 10 so like always just depends on the fit, cut and rise.

I have the first pair but in a mid rise from a few years ago, same wash and pattern of rips. Funny because they run soooo big like I could have went down a size or two. I have noticed that when companies expand their sizing, their clothes tend to run a lot smaller than they previously did. Like my Abercrombie jeans from a few years ago are a 6/28 and are too big, and now I can barely get into a 10/30 even though my weight/body shape hasn’t changed.
