For those wondering about location, this was filmed at the Rhigos mountain, literally where the South Wales Valleys meets the bottom of the Brecon Beacons. It’s one hell of a road (despite the potholes and surprise bumps) and that is a hell of a car. So pleased for you. I had a 993 Carrera 2 in 1995 when living in Germany. What a car! I had a commute that had a short stretch of unrestricted Autobahn on the way home. Changing down from 6th to third and running it from 60mph to 150mph was a daily occurrence. That chainsaw howl from the aircooled engine was intoxicating. Trying to drive it on summer tyres in the snow was quite amusing too - more time looking out the side windows than the windscreen...

Wether you see this or not I just want to say a big congratulations on achieving this goal Alex, I’ve been a subscriber to your channel and seen it grow, always love tuning in to a video of yours but this video in particular has really connected with me. I drive a mk5 gti and it’s my pride and joy, I was passenger in the car for 2 years before i bought it. Walked to work and back for 6 months and saved most of my monthly minimum wage pay to buy it. The car is one of the few things that really makes me happy and although now 5 years later I have been in a very bad situation,the car is falling apart and roof being complete destroyed with laquer peel I’m scared to lose it, although I cannot upgrade it right now it lights me up inside just like you mentioned in this video and I have a strong sentimental attachment to it. As a 1996 993 C2 owner (who does his own maintenance) the typical leaks are doable. The lower valve cover gaskets are the usual culprit coz they leak onto the heat exchangers. Timing chain covers and varioram resonace valve are other potentials. Also don't overlook some pillock who didn't tighten the smaller oil filter properly. Good luck! (Yes, that exhaust note is... sonorous!)

@methaniel Possible. However, I'd first check the age and condition of the three 'fan belts' (drive belts). If even one is iffy, you should replace all three. I've done this myself. Actually when they have all three off, and can thus spin the alternator freely, THAT will surely indicate the condition of the bearings, housing etc.

Alex I did a similarish thing with an SLK 350 R171 back in December. It's a very high spec example, possibly the highest spec in the country, including speed sensitive steering from the AMG 55. A lot less money, but still a decent exhaust note and the thrill of driving a special car. I absolutely love it and am currently bringing it back fully up to scratch.

My dad had a 993 C2S when I was a kid back in the late 1990’s. Easily the best car he ever had, and he definitely shouldn’t have sold it!! Watching this vid of the 993 brings back fantastic memories of my childhood. Congrats Alex and thankyou!!

As the owner of a "high mileage hero" myself ('02 Alfa 156 GTA with 263,000km and counting) I commend you. Nothing wrong with high mileage - by definition the car must be pretty good, and had sufficient care and attention, just to become one. Use mine every day in peak hour commuting, 300km a week. Love it.

Hearing you talk about your dream car while driving it at a rapid clip through the mountains is truly incredible, and everything you said echoes how I felt buying my own long-term dream car last year. The sound of a flat 6 that you've waited so much of your life to control is a truly special feeling (as I found out 6 months ago myself, a 3.3L unit in the front); I hope yours gives you many more trouble-free miles! Great car with a great personal story behind it; that's what it's all about, isn't it?

Congratulations on this huge achievement! In my childhood a guy had one in the same exact color and I loved it so much. The video itself is perfect, brings back memories of the old top gear. Can't wait to see what the projects are for it.

Brilliant stuff! Love this generation of 911, the 993 isnsuch a lovely shape. Absolutely agree that massive power/speed isnt necessary, tactility and atmosphere is much more important in the real world on normal roads. I'm a TVR head for exactly the same reasons as Alex likes this Porsche. Simple, raw, exhilerating, good honest drivers cars. Long may they live. ❤

I love this channel for exactly this video. It hits on such a personal level. I had this same reaction when I first got my E46 M3 , and I know I’ll have the same visceral reaction when I get my ultimate dream car, a S54 M Coupe.
