Ill give it to you as a fellow Vive Pro user It is a very good headset, but the Index is the best bang for the buck headset. And recommending a quest 2 isn't a bad choice (The 3 would be a better option to give) but recommending the Pimax Crystal I can not support. The Pimax Crystal is a $1500 dollar headset and not to mention the tracking and optical issues that plague Pimax headsets. If cables are the issue your trying to drive home a Quest Pro does the job pretty well for a cost vs value high-end headset. But for social vr the valve index is the best you can get with a good mic, good value, and actually good company backing it. Ps. I went through like 5 vive pro cables in 2 years, cables breaking is just a normal vr thing.

For anyone wondering whether or not to buy the index, after seeing this video: buy it. I dont know what else you(as in Nik) must have done to your cables for this to happen... or maybe you've just received a faulty product, but I can tell everyone here that the Valve Index very much is worth its money and you should buy it. I have had mine for several years now and its amazing. I unplug it from the cable box thing literally every single time after I am done using it and I use it at least 2-3 times a week (usually way more). I am extremely active in VR, cause I'm a dancer, have stepped endless times on the cable and have rolled over it with my chair at least a handful of times. It still works like a charm. My very first experience with VR was actually the Quest 2 and I am so happy that Ive upgraded to the Index. And having the audacity to recommend the Pimax Crystal as an expensive alternative is laughable... genuinely disappointed in this video and you right now, I used to like your videos... but this one seems very ill intentioned, almost like you wanna stir drama for views and clicks

I got my index last year in April and I’ve had no problem with any of the cables. I’ve definitely not been a lazy player since I move around quite a lot. I even accidentally ran over the cable with my chair a couple times and it still is looking perfect, no flickering or sparkles. You must have gotten very unlucky.

very odd, ive played 2,000+ hours on vrc in the last year, sleeping, partying, and all sorts of other things and I am on my 2nd cable and og controllers. I leave all my gear, headset included, on the floor and everything gets stepped on and kicked around by my 80 pound dog and myself at least 5 times a day. Also ran the cable over with my desk chair a bunch as well. I'd say its around about the same durability as a high quality HDMI cable. I also very rarely unplug my headset for anything so that may be the cause of the issue's you're describing. hope you figure something out because I love my index.

Pretty much same, I've got over 2k hours on my Index, all standing, moving around games. I'm definitely not the most gentle with it either, and I've never had to replace anything. OG cable, OG controllers, everything is perfect. I do use a pulley system so I don't leave the cable lying on the ground or "run over it with a chair" like he was saying.
@heaven560510 ай бұрын
Not very odd. Almost everyone I know who uses the index had issues a couple months into owning it. One friend dropped a controller from a few feet off the ground once and it broke. You're very lucky.

My original htc vive cable has been through hell. tugged multiple times, sometimes causing my headset to fly off. Cable ran over with chair. I highly doubt the cable is worse on an index that came out years later. for much higher price tag too. idk though

Quest 3 prob As it has full face tracking Valve index is great but very fragile and you would have to take care of it.

I had bad luck with a base station and my cable is artifacting badly after 10 months of hard usage which i rma'd for and id say it was 100% worth the money
@mikamelin302210 ай бұрын
mine hasnt had any issues at all and ive had it for years. Also heard it can break easily but not for me. I treat it with care, its pretty expensive so i baby it. Also im just plain against Metas headsets and their business-practices so i wont ever support them, but... their headsets are a great bang for the buck. Still id go with index
@exbo_vr992934 ай бұрын
DO you untighten youyr headset before you put it on because if it is tightened it crushes the cable and i bought mine from gamestop and its worked fine for 2 weeks so far nothing is wrong.
@immersivedevices-im8dl10 ай бұрын
Keeping the cable on a tether is probably better. I bet you're doing something not intended to the cable that you're forgetting such as pinching the cable somewhere or rolling over it with your chair. The index is on the most fragile end of the VR headsets and I don't understand how the cable can be that expensive, but in my case, keeping it overhead and strapping a piece of tape on the back of the headset made it so I have it for 4 years without any cable issues. I understand the frustration of it not surviving 2 months, I'm sorry for that.
@heaven560510 ай бұрын
Man, why's it gotta be so fragile though? 130 dollar cable that can't survive a couple rolls under an office chair is insane.

My first cable lasted me 3 years almost but I agree The 1500 dollars (after shipping) just isn’t worth it with the controllers going to shit after the slightest bump (Literally if you tap them together even lightly, the tracking will no longer be consistently reliable) The only thing the index has going for it is the resolution which is becoming outdated sooooo Yeah it’s a scam.
@Wolfentodd10 ай бұрын
Also it’s not just the cable that’s cheap. Every single component is made with cheap, flexible and extremely fragile plastic

bro youre 4 years too late to tell everyone that they dont have to buy one. the index was great 2 years ago. other companies have released 3-4 headsets in the time index has been out. the problem isnt the cable when its under warranty, so im assuming you bought used on ebay. the problem is valve not understanding the market.
