I would feel more comfortable if it was a mini pi of some sort instead of original hardware. I know the Wii sold a lot, but not a fan of damaging original hardware. Plus that thing was not engineered to run like that. Who knows if it is even safe and won’t catch on fire.

Tbh I don't agree with the take of damaging original hardware at all. There are millions and millions of Wiis - many that have just been donated or essentially thrown away. This Wii has been repurposed to be used as... a Wii, but smaller. Also most of the time these modders use consoles that are broken anyway for these custom consoles. I'd recommend taking a look at the builtbit forum, they do some really cool stuff.

@@jrob0021 normally would agree with the take about the original hardware but this falls in the exceptions. There are probably 100s of thousands of wiis that are destined for landfills and i would prefer that that they get repurposed as mini or portable consoles than just scrapped. Same logic goes for Old game boys or GBAs with Battery corrosion and taking the old chips and transplanting them on to a custom board

Completely understand, I think 99.99% of people are in the same boat. Unfortunately it's one of those things where it likely doesn't make sense for the modder to sell it for any less because of the time and skill it takes to figure out how to build one of these, and then actually do it. The good news is that the bitbuilt forum has pretty much all the info you need to make one for yourself, if you wanted to and have the skills.

Still play my GC. Ltd edition Resident Evil. Works great after all these years. Haven't had to replace anything inside yet. Anyone whos still using OG GC, its definitely worth getting an av - hdmi upscaler. Played Simpsons Hit n Run last nite in 4k 😂.
