First thing, change all the thermal material, paste and pads. Thoroughly clean out the heatsink and fans. This is the most important step when buying a second hand graphics card.

@fwoztyZA Mostly likely cause of problems on old graphics card is overheating. They usually produce well over 200 watts, you live in South Africa, I live in Spain. Two very warm climates I imagine. This dries out thermal paste and when that happens the GPU overheats. Do that for too long and you'll kill it. Thermal material is piss cheap so it's always worth doing on any card more than a couple of years old

It's just not true that Nvidia is better than AMD when it comes to Fortnite performance, look at Zach's Tech Turf benchmark testing the RX 7600 and RTX 3060. Its clear the idea that AMD cards are bad for Fortnite compared to Nvidia is just wrong, as people believe that just because pro players use top of the line cards (which AMD does not compete in anymore), that AMD must be worse when comparing the two.

Amd cards are not bad,they are really good,But for fortnite performance mode (which all pros play on) nvidia handles better and averages better fps which makes the game way smoother than amd can,Amd is usually better if you play DX12 mode if youre playing for good graphics

uh i wouldnt suggest you to get mining cards, mining causes rough gpu usage which makes it vulnurable and lower the life expectancy of the card. But you got a good deal though.

Mining cards make card utlize 100% of it so it generates a lot of heat that amount of heat makes the soldering of ics loose and somewhat reduces the gpu processors lifespan. Second hand is always a good choice i myself got a 3060 second hand. when buying a second hand just check how old the product is what is its condition and main thing warranty. If its in warranty its like gold. and if u take care and maitain the cards it will serve you life long.

​@@lucamontori2314 that is a decent card for sure. It's all about performance per $. If you can get a Intel b580, it performs only slightly worse (3-5fps) and you get 12gb more vram. Also check out the Rx 7700xt if it is in budget. Try to avoid older Nvidia cards with less than 12gb vram

​@@lucamontori2314that is a good gpu for sure, also consider the regular rx 6700xt model and the newer 7600xt and 7700xt. Nvidia is hard to recommend at this price point because the 4060 is bad value and the 4070 is way more than $350. Try to avoid older Nvidia gpus with less than 10gb of vram. Fortnite DOESN'T run better on Nvidia. It can seem like that because professional esports players use high end pcs and Nvidia makes the best gpu for expensive builds

Keep in mind that buying used is generally very risky and buying used where the seller says the card doesnt work is a bad idea unless you have high tech equipment and experience to properly fix the card.

Ex-mining cards are actually a better buy than ex-gaming cards. Miners will actually keep the cards cool and we'll ventilated. And will often under volt them. Gamers not so much. A gaming card will be more stressed in its life cycle than a mining card.
