In the 90s the 7/11 around the corner from our home, allowed our youngest son to buy baseball cards on credit he was about 5 yrs old. My husband was a cop at the time and went in for coffee in the middle of the night and the owner asked my husband if he would pay our son’s tab. 🤣😂

By the way, the Gretzky at 21:42 is an early 1981-82 o-pee-chee base card, in that shape, that's a pretty notable card (compared to the other cards in the collection.)

as a sports card guy you’re going to want to get those cards out of the screw downs and into just the top loaders with a penny sleeve inside - the screw downs are notorious for compressing cards to the point that they come back as upgrade-able

I remember how bad it got in the 90d. I collected Topps baseball cards for years, and suddenly there were a ton of other companies in the market. At least it never seemed as bad as when speculation caused the comic book market to crash in the 90s. And funny how those two seemed to coincide. Hologram cards were big in comics with all of the gimmick covers. It's awesome that you picked up those Gretzky cards. He truly was the greatest.

Proset 91-92 has some C-series cards with errors, the Pat Falloon one worth the most. BUT in that early 90s era, the sought after rookies were in Upper Deck. Still, as you said, mass produced so you're not looking at much. That was the era of Paul Kariya, arguably one of the best of the time. I have TWO of his rookie cards. The best rookie cards will always be 1980s O-Pee-Chee (Gretzky, Lemieux, Roy etc).

Hi Alex, if you are interested in getting any older cards. I’m a member of a KZbin channel called Storage Legends. The channel owner bought a Hoarder House loaded with tons of Cards starting from I believe the 40’s. He sells complete sets some people have purchased a Soccer card sets that had up to 10 Wayne Gretzky rookie cards. The reason I’m telling you about it. Is because you mentioned a Mickey Mantle and Gordie Howe. Most if not all sets are in like new condition. There are many collectors and resellers who have done very well. He also has Comic Books in mint condition. I know he has had whole boxes from like $0.10 and up. I just wanted to mention it just in case you are interested. I pray You, Melissa and the kids are all doing well. 🙏❤️ Sorry I was forgetting to tell you that he does ship all around the world.

The card market is over-saturated, it's very difficult to turn even a small profit. I buy and sell collectibles, paintings mainly and old books, some signed. I find that buyers only care about sports stars autographed books or cards. Up here in Canada hockey is king, all others are passe. When I was living in the mid-wets baseball was king.

My brothers used to collect baseball cards back in 1970's and probably early 1980's. Johnny Bench was my favorite player. When my brothers had to go to bed because of school the next day, my mom would watch the games and would tell them the score the next morning. She got so that she liked to watch baseball. Sometimes she would kid my brothers and when a homerun was hit she would yell, "TOUCH DOWN"! LOL She loved to watch football when it was snowing and the players would be sliding all over the place. lol

I been collecting various things over my life, as Transformers, Halloween decorations, video games. I can tell you that Transformers has lost lots of value over the years over the saturation of Hasbro. I always laugh when I see people thinking their transformers collection is worth a lot of money. Apart from original transformers from the 80s and some rare or limited ones over the years, their value is pretty low. As for Halloween decorations, old ones are worth some money, as also older Animatronics in good shape. As video games, rare games of course, but some of of the most worth are Horror video games. Due to be rare subject for video games as seen as a niche theme, especially in older systems, old horror video games are high in demand. With more and more gaming companies pushing for only digital downloads instead of hard copies, as cartridges and discs, video games collectors are really trying to buy older games, especially horror games.
