I watched a video around the time this one was posted of a guitar builder who made a 3D printed guitar. Can't remember his nam, but he had a cool pattern. Yep, the Prusacaster. I printed one a year and a half ago, and spent more than $50 on the filament, so if you go just on cost, you did well. I teach a Technology class to middle schoolers, and that was our class project one semester. I agree, though...it's virtually worthless as an actual guitar, but it hangs in my office as a show piece and gets a lot of comments! I even used fancy carbon fiber filament to print the middle section to make it stronger, but the action is SO HIGH. Even light strings put too much tension on that plastic body and it just keeps pulling the action up. One thing you didn't mention is how comfortable it is (or isn't) to play. I found it rather painful - the sharp 3d printed edges dig into your arm and make it unpleasant after a few minutes. It was a fun experiment, though! Keep up the good work!
@joemonella33514 ай бұрын
If you stick several golf balls in that Swiss Cheesed guitar body, there will be less neck dive, Phil.

One thing you could do with that design is take some of the honeycomb and print an insert and fill it with weight(s) so you could change the balance and make it sit more how you like it. Maybe even change and modify the resonance depending where you put it.

This is cool! I’ve really been getting into 3D printed guitars and the quality comes from how the core is printed. I printed my core at 70 percent infill, meaning it’s 70 percent plastic and 30 percent air. It’s super solid and I hope to have a video up soon about it! But these guitars can be fun as a project but buying one like this is a gamble but $50 isn’t too much! You should keep going and try another guitar from a reputable seller on Reverb. Also, it’s pronounced the “Proo-shuh” caster 😉

You can fix the creep/bend issues by printing with more perimeters and more infill. I think that Prusa said to use at least 7 perimeters and at least a 25% cubic infill. (The default is 2 perimeters and like 15-20% infill).

This more strikes me as something that would end up on Samurai's channel, or end up on "Ridiculous Reverb Listings" for somebody trying to sell it for 1k, I don't personally see trying something as a mistake especially if you learn something from it, It honestly sounds good, but it needs a steel plate reinforcement insert between the neck and the bridge so it won't flex. A few suggestions - Mostly Carbon Fiber Guitar, ebay has some wrapped bodies from allparts and throw on a Kloss Fender LIC replacement neck and go as much CF as you can. Also I would like to see some unorthodox partscasters - Like a 3D printed body, Honestly unless they are completely finished $300 is a bit steep in price, Maybe build one out of Wood in a similar mannerism with different wood species for each of the parts and have a cavity where you can throw weights to offset the neck weight.

A couple of tweaks, add some weight to the body (first case of having to do that?) Add a carbon plate and two rods down the length of the body to help with flex. Maybe fill in some of those hexes with epoxy, or similar. Also, the person that printed it should have used something other than PLA, as that's not the strongest material, especially for something like a guitar body. ABS or Nylon would have been better, but carbon impregnated would have been best.
