The "was £379" sticker on the club is blatantly fraudulent and illegal. That F9s was NEVER £379 and was only on sale for £249 at Clubhouse golf. Is there any real difference, noticeable to a 15 handicap, in this years Prov1 compared to last year? I don’t think so. Some of your have shown that the average golfer can play and enjoy the game using either second hand, used clubs, or brand new package sets..I’m going back to my Ben Hogan Apex irons, 1973 edition, and persimmon driver. Great work Rick and Simon, also you had a better shaft in the F9S for this test compared to what you get as standard so the actual F9S performance out of the shop is likely to be even worse. The helium shaft is a substandard product in comparison.

Absolutely right!! I think if he wouldve used it with the Helium shaft, carry distance would never had gotten past 230.

@@mikecooke2357 Mike, I think that’s a fair point; I don’t have an issue with Cobra selling a cheaper driver, I think the issue here is the effort they have gone to to give the impression it is an F9 plus the retailer putting a “Was £379” sticker on there when it clearly never was!!

Really interesting video, my only thought, because the F9 was 9 degrees standard and you had to adjust the F9S to get down to 9, perhaps the delofting changed the face angle (I.e open vs closed) which can impact delivered loft even if the static loft is “the same”. Not sure that accounts for 600 RpM and 10 yards consistently though.
@jhale832 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. I still wouldn't think it would be THAT different to be 10 yards but it's not comparing apples to apples when you have a true 9 deg head vs a 10.5 deg head adjusted down.
@erock10702 жыл бұрын
Great comment. Loft sleeves effect the face angle more so than loft. Unless he’s perfectly squaring the face back up at address will it actually play at the lower loft. Most people don’t re set the face so my guess is he just had a bit of an open face with the S model. Too much loft. Which explains the slower ball speed and more spin.
@plaga852 жыл бұрын
Would be interesting to see like 5 shot of each head with 9 and 10,5 degrees.. and see some average numbers.
@XxSoBeHaLLxX2 жыл бұрын
I know going down to 9° does change the face to probably 3° or 4° open so it’s quite the difference.

This video came about 6 months too late for me 😭. My wife bought me one for my 40th last July. I've barely used to due to an injury so had no clue it wasn't the original F9 that Rick had been raving about a couple of years ago. I just ran out to the garage to confirm but I knew as soon as Rick said about the different headcover. Pretty gutted to be honest, I've been waiting about 10 years to get a decent driver. It's going to annoy me every time I pull the bloody thing out my bag now... I won't tell the misses as she'll feel bad. Disappointing that Cobra feel the need to dupe people to turn a profit.

@ESikora122 жыл бұрын
It may have been suggested already, but I’d be curious to see a head to head with the original F9 in a turned down 10.5° head. Cobra did make it known that their 10.5° head on the F9 was a higher spin setup vs the 9° head, regardless of where you dial the loft sleeve to play. Still expecting original F9 to win out on ball speed with that CNC face, but I’d guess spin numbers come closer
@lawrencegarcia13702 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the honesty and the fact that you have the stones to call out Cobra and the retailers who carry this. I love the cobra brand, still rockin ole bluey 3 wood.
@kevinregan32242 жыл бұрын
A couple of thoughts: (1) I'd be interested to see how the F9S does with the original shaft and (2) is there a 9 degree F9S model (I'm not sure I trust that dialing down the loft of a 10.5 degree driver is the same as using a 9 degree driver).
@phonypeeps70202 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing about the lofts
@lorneg.thompson53282 жыл бұрын
It has "usually" been shown over the years and many videos that knocking down the loft on a 10.5° head to 9° is not the same as having 2 9° heads go at it. The 10.5 head reduced will likely still spin more. Not a fair fight. That being said, shame on you Cobra for the deception!
@sckildare27722 жыл бұрын
Dialling up or down the club head doesn't actually change the loft it actually just changes face and lie angle to create lower or higher launch conditions, but can badly effect spin axis and actually have the opposite of the desired effect especially if your changing loft to try open and close the face
@NickMeyer82 жыл бұрын

Coming from someone who played slowpitch softball on a highly competitive level, the same can be said for certain bats when a Reissuse Model comes out. Never as hot as the original and seems to fall short. The companies brings back nostalgia as a selling point without the same performance. Not only that but manufacturers made a couple bats for specific stores. Bow manufacturers do this as well with bows

@cheeseballs19992 жыл бұрын
No and it changes the face angle when doing so.
@Shipwreck151512 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Not to mention, you’re hoping that both clubs were digitally lofted and are actually the lofts they claim. That 9 could be 8.6° and the 10.5 could be 11. Turning a 10.5 down to 9 doesn’t make it a 9, it’s still a 10.5 but you’re just delivering a different loft at impact. If Rick could actually get a 9° F9S I would be interested in seeing the data.

@hllamasiv2 жыл бұрын
I would think that the S head in 9* would actually preform just as good as the standard 9* head since he used a 10.5* head that naturally spins more AND he lowered the loft down 1.5* which also additionally adds more spin.

Spot on Rick. The reason the tag said 379 and sale price of 249 is an old retail trick. Make you think you are getting a bargain. Oh, I saw one of your videos regarding the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo driver, so I went and tried it out. I replaced an older Taylormade driver I had for many years. I found at age 60 and with a bad back, I could not get it out any further than 180 mts with my best hit. Average was more like 165 mts. So I took your advice, bought the Cleveland and now hitting 200+ more often than not and hitting more fairways again. So forgiving and just so nice to use. Best driver I have ever had. So thank you for your advice, and I would advise others looking for a new driver to listen to you. Cheers from Australia Mate. 👍😊

Thanks for doing this. Would have never know. Would have like to see a few strikes with the sold shaft. Also the 9 degree head vs 10 degree head diffence.

I found a new F9 with CNC face with a Helium senior shaft and Arcos on line. Just hit some golf balls today and love it. I'm going to try the shaft that came on my LTDx and see how it feels. The F9 staying in the bag. I'm about to order another one to save when the other is done. Thanks for the video on the club.

Rick, this is why we subscribe and like. Don’t ever let them buy you out. Keep it real!

Totally agree I bought one of these from the same store unaware of the "s" part didn't notice the face being different until I had unwrapped it and hit some balls the store then refused to take it back as it was now used. Cobra golf website was no help with no mention anywhere of an S version. I still use this driver but would think twice about buying anything from them again !

Similar story for me with the AMP Cell S. Cobra has been doing this cheeky stuff for a few years now.

Love your reviews Rick..always hit on things most don't imform on... I still have My F 8 and F 9 drivers..Only reason I moved up to the F 9 was so I could get the same shaft in my Cobra 3 Woods...I was wondering what results you would have gotten if you used the shaft that came with the F 9 S just to see how much change in results......Thanks...

God review. Thanks to you, Simon, and others for pointing this out. Buyers of “S” are getting deceived by the driver head and also getting a shaft that isn’t optimized. Ping, Calloway, Mizuno have good products, they don’t do this deceptive crap, and they wait a couple years before coming out with a new model that makes yours obsolete.
