I remember being the coolest kid in primary school, because my dad owned a white 3rd gen Honda Prelude ... It was a birthday present from my dad's brother (my uncle). My dad's Fiat Bravo got repossessed when he couldn't keep up with repayments ... So my uncle bought him (outright and paid in full) an affordable and reliable car, which just happened to be a Prelude. My dad had never owned anything sporty before, so even though it was used, my dad appreciated just how much car he got for the money ... It came from RC Woods with a free air freshener (only negative was the automatic transmission). His was white (and was a 4WS equipped model). It had been lowered, with silver 5 spoke alloys and a half decent stereo with Alpine 6x9 speakers ... Due to its striking design I was briefly envied by many kids at my primary school, as their parent's didn't own anything half as cool, some parents even asked my dad if he would sell it ... he declined knowing he had something special. That Prelude was my first introduction to car culture, as the car had a magnetic pull, and we would encounter other Honda owners, Prelude owners and car enthusiasts who were curious about it ... Needless to say, we met some great enthusiastic and passionate people and their cool cars. 15 years later and I'm still a petrolhead (and fan of Honda and Alpine car stereos). I only appreciated everything about it after it was gone ... It sadly developed rust on the floorpan (a couple of harsh Winters with salt on the roads exacerbated the minor rust issues), the gaps grew so large, that it would no longer pass an M.O.T. My dad had to let it go at that point ... It was replaced by an BMW E30 318i ... An equally reliable and capable, yet less spectacular car. The Prelude will always hold a special place in my memory, many great times were had in that car ... The thought of it alone takes me back to childhood in the mid 2000's. I've learned the awesome value of this community,/because of that car. I have also learned the value of being more disciplined with car mainintaince, so I don't have to let go, of a great, car prematurely. PS: I know my uncle is awesome, he is a petrolhead too, but at the time he bought car for my dad he had started a family and had to get something practical for himself ... He has toyed with getting other great cars (now his kids are grown up), but money has been the barrier to entry. I'd like to own a Prelude in the future, I'd H22 swap it, because the B20 and automatic transmission were not a great combo ...

@@JonLasaga im thinking about making a project prelude, cause theyre the cheapest 2 doors cars here. is the 90s prelude (w/ the pop up lights) fwd? also if so im gonna change the engine w/ a race tuned b20b and hopefully w/ a sequential gearbox and rwd
@JonLasaga5 жыл бұрын
@@Frogentoad Yeah its FWD from the factory and RWD and 4wd swaps have been done on the car. But you will probably have to pull the 4ws gearbox in order to make it RWD since there is a driveline running through the middle of the car that turns the rear wheels. Alltogether the swap is pretty tough especially considering the b20b is not compatible at all with the b20a engines. If you want to see what needs done in order to do this I got a thread for you.www.flickr.com/photos/psychoboy_okc/sets/72157612152694425/ www.preludepower.com/forums/showthread.php?t=315131 I would suggest if you get one try one with the 4ws gearbox even in front wheel drive its very fun because you can throw the rear around alot like you can in a RWD platform. The engine doesnt make any crazy vtec sounds but it still is more powerful than the b16 .

Awsone intro. I had that model. I saw it at a dealer, I just bought me a brand new Fiat Uno, and after 3 months I was sick of it. The Honda was 6 years old, my first drive was from the dealer to a Car Hifi Shop where I got myself a Sony Car stereo with MD (Mini Disk), and a 10 CD changer, with subwoofer and the speakers.That's what you do when ur 18..;-)....I will never forgett this car.

Love this car, and Honda's from this era in particular. Please don't ruin it with a ghetto paint job! 🤞🙏

I kinda agree with you , however a DIY paint job doesn't necessarily mean ghetto paint job.

"Forgotten 80's Honda"? My dude, I will NEVER forget this car! My folks owned a USDM '89 Acrua Integra LS hatchback in a gorgeous dark red color and equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox, bought off a showroom floor in Alaska when I was less than a year old, and happened to have a manufacturer's service manual for the car lying in the back seat! I loved that car ever since I was young, my folks even recall my first word being "Acura". Fast forward many years later and after an easy fix-up from being driveway-parked for a couple years and while it may not have been the first car I drove, it was the car I learned to drive manual in. I ended up keeping the car for several years; through spirited driving, learning to wrench on my own car through doing spark plugs, brakes, tires, pulling apart interior pieces, oil changes, timing belt, all of that fun maintenance stuff and then some, and getting to experience the highs and lows of car ownership. I finally had to let her go in 2012 when my mechanic looked at a suspension issue; failing suspension bushings, and because of the odd setup meant a complete front-end teardown and over $1000 in parts and labor. All else being fine otherwise I had to make the hard decision to let go of the car while it was still a running vehicle. That car was a part of my life for over 14 years and 280k miles; and seeing those shots of that Honda valve cover and gauge cluster nearly brought tears to my eyes, I will NEVER forget this car. So what did I end up with after that? Perhaps as no surprise, a 2006 Mazda Miata that I have owned to this day. Still a manual, still do almost all my own work; even did a whole engine replacement on it and installed a new clutch while I was at it. Still loving my car journey, and always learning more.
