I got this totaled 2021 Mazda CX5 from Insurance Auto Auction (Copart) This vehicle got hit pretty good, where it sustained damage to both of the frame rails and a strut tower. All of it had to be pulled back out on my homemade frame rack. There was a fair bit of challenges that I had to overcome. But it turned into a pretty interesting project and I'm glad that I get to share it you all of you!

You are SO right about keeping the old parts! Don't overlook how much all those clips, fasteners, etc. will cost you. If you have no recourse but the dealer, handfuls of those little parts could tally up to hundreds of dollars. And having part numbers, or a busted reference part, can help you search used sources, or even your search for the parts you need in a salvage yard.

Today at work someone miss-placed a couple of exhaust bolts that come coupled with the compression spring... Long story short, list price on each one of those bolts at the dealership is $28, shop price is $15 and some change. So we ended up having to drop $30 on just two bolts which is ridiculous, so yeah, I don't throw away anything even if it seems like total garbage, I still keep it until the project wraps up 100%

Great to see you back again. I was just checking to see which of my regular channels had posted and as soon as I saw that you had a new video, I went straight to it. This looks like an interesting repair and you got the Mazda at a good price and the mileage is low as well. This should be a keeper for many years. Good choice. I hope the next part and following parts won't be too long coming.

@@fix206 Always busy here in Queensland Australia, working on different projects. Got my small shop pretty much finished, then we built a small wood shop for my woodworking tools which is also mostly finished. I haven't started my EH Holden ute (small pickup truck) restoration yet, still have to extend the shed/garage for the work area. How's that 1948 Chevy truck on the C10 frame going? We haven't seen that for two years. Hope to see more of that project and of course the continuation of the Mazda. Looking forward to your next video. All the best from Queensland where we have a pretty hot start to summer.

Good evening 206, excellent information and content. What model and brand is your laser and that crank up laser pole. I like the other red laser with its contrast. Thank you for a great video. You take care and good luck with your rebuild.
@fix206
@fix206 6 ай бұрын
The green laser brand is Huepar, don't recall the model number, but I wouldn't hesitate to use any laser by that brand, they are all great. The tripod with the crank is a cheap tripod that I've picked up from my local Walmart for right around $20.. The red laser is also good, just not as powerful as Huepar so it's a bit harder to see it in the day light especially on a sunny day

Thanks for the informative video. One question I have is how do you ascertain that undamaged strut tower off which you are baselining your vertical alignment has also not moved. What I mean is that both the strut towers for example might have moved down with UNdamaged one moving down 4 mm therefore, how do you confirm that ? How would you baseline ? Thanks again
@fix206
@fix206 5 ай бұрын
It takes a lot of force to move a strut tower, so it is safe to say that the strut tower on an undamaged side did not move unless the car got blasted so hard that it almost turned into a banana
@usman_oz
@usman_oz 5 ай бұрын
Agreed. In a case where both struts might have move up or down vertically then how the correct height could be measured ?
