I'm so glad it's back ready to work again! I'm telling you, I've had a lots of robots in my hands, but the 980 is the one I love the most, it's the most reliable and powerful robot you can now get, and it's not completely dumb, it's sometimes actually smarter than the top of the line s9, or i7 Roombas. Also they became not too expensive. Nothing in reliability and cleaning ability will ever beat it. Not even new Roomba models, which keep having firmware and also sometimes hardware issues. It even cleans carpets better than my Vorwerk kobold vk122. The spare motor you got is for lower end models (96x, 97x) which have the standard AeroForce 5x more powerful motor unlike the 98x, which has 10x more powerful (than 600 AeroVac) motor with CarpetBoost. The 5x more powerful AeroForce motor originally came from 800 series, all of them have the same one. Btw bin from 96x, 97x, 8xx will work in 980 too, but then you will have a little less suction and CarpetBoost will be disabled, you can actually make a 960 out of 980 just by putting 960 (or 8xx bin, you get it) bin in 980. But the 980 bin does not really work in 960 or 8xx (low motor rpms, 960/800 does not know how to communicate with the hi end motor). And unfortunately you can't as you can see fit 960 motor inside 980 bin. But the cool fact is that all of theese motors are made by Nidec and you can find them naked without the covers and propeller on aliexpress/ebay for dirt cheap, I bought a replacement motor for my 960 from aliexpress for 3$. It's exactly the same motor. All you need is to google it by the number on the little pcb on the motor (motor's ESC). I bet it's a simillar process with Neato's suction turbines too. I'll post someday a videoseries about restoring my 960, where I will cover everything about ordering spare motors. Or I might make a separate video about it. I remember ordering a suction motor for my 550 too. Btw, rollers on your Roomba are still in nice shape, sidebrush is still usable too, you don't need to replace theese yet. Maybe just put the decorative plastic piece back. It looks better with it. 😄
