Thanks for the link to this video. Its nice to know that finding these parts is not completely out of the realm of possibility. By the way, you said in the original video that you do not blame Motorola and while I agree with that up to a point I still think they share some of the blame. After all, why would you make a phone with a glass housing and then not have replacement of those glass pieces as a repair option or even offer the parts up for sale to those who would like to do the replacement themselves. It just makes no sense whatsoever. Either make the front and back cover out of metal or offer replacement glass parts if making it out of glass. Nobody should have to pay $1000 for a new phone simply because a piece of glass is cracked.

@kornkernel22324 жыл бұрын
@@penedrador Yeah, back then I dropped the phone, only to worry to drop it on screen head-on. Basically only 50% chance you will break a screen or just land on the back-side which is just plastic, worst is the camera lens might break. Heck I even dropped my phone onces before and the screen didn't even break, only the aluminum sides were dent and front have one line of scratch.
@nomadben4 жыл бұрын
Glass on the back of a phone is one of the absolute worst trends to ever happen to the phone industry. Glass still makes sense over the screen due to its greater scratch resistance, but a quality plastic has all of the benefits and none of the drawbacks of glass for the back. I'll take it every single time. Glass backs are nothing more than intentional fragility to make more money on repairs or new phone sales.
@kornkernel22324 жыл бұрын
@@nomadben Yeah, the fact pretty much everybody on the high-end smartphone have both glass on the side of the phone. Personally I like the aesthetics of them especially when it was first introduced with iPhone 4. But now it has just become too mainstream that the smartphone has become quite stale and leaves no choice since every high-end device is fragile. At least when we had mix of plastic, aluminum and few glass phones, we have choice if we prefer certain aesthetics and may have to leave with a compromise. Aluminum doesn't support wireless charging, glass phones are fragile, plastic phones well didn't really have downsides at all except that some can felt cheap, but Nokia back in the day were plastics and still fel premium though.

It was just enough to puncture the OLED panel.

We basically have two options depending on the situation; 1: you’ve got warranty available and it’s a software related issue ( in which case we can offer several solutions and options, including getting a replacement device shipped to our shop) and 2: you are out of warranty and or have physical damage to the hardware (in which case you would pay out of pocket for any repairs or replacements) Whatever the scenario though, you have to file a claim through Motorola themselves before stopping by.

The only reason most repair shops aren’t capable of fixing this phone, is because of the parts being unique. There’s not enough of a customer volume to mass produce aftermarket or OEM parts for replacement. Take apple for example: getting past the fact that most of their iPhone models require screen calibration with the faceID sensor to get it to work again, there are a wider range of replacement parts for iPhone. Even Samsung. So it’s not that it isn’t fixable, it’s just not repairable by the normal means. (At least not right now where the device is still too new.) As I was watching this video, I checked the repair portal I use at work for sending out repairs, and not even my company (staples) takes those for repair send out or in house... sadly that’s the reality of new devices. And I do highly agree with you on getting the insurance. It saves you time and money. Every iPhone I’ve owned after the 6s has had apple care in every way possible. Haven’t had to use it, but the option is there should I break my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I hope that in the future, you’ll consider wearing a case on your phone. They may take away from the overall design, but they also protect it too.

3 years ago I got the Sony Xperia 1. It was an amazing phone with a picture quality better than most high end tv's. It was a joy to use but it was slippery as hell. One day; three weeks into ownership, I was getting out of the car to go into our local Co-op when the Sony just jumped out of my chest pocket of my down jacket, and threw itself under the car. Of course I didn't realise till I got home that the phone had escaped. Which at that point I panicked. I rang the Co-op and luckily someone had picked it up and handed it in. I breathed a sigh of relief and drove down to the village to retrieve it. When I got there, it was my phone but, not only had I dropped it but then on the way out, I then; unbeknowing to me, had run over it too. So as you can imagine, not only was the screen completely mashed, but the internals were crushed too. When I got it home my Mrs went mental. But the worst thing was, 1. it wasn't insured and 2. the damned thing still worked and still does now. But having said that, it is totally unusable. So my next phone was a Motorola G something. it cost about £150 and was as basic as it gets. I guess that served me right for being absent minded. You have to be soo careful with modern phones, wrap them in cotton wool and baby them, well almost......

Reason why I always use a Ringke case on all my phones
@alexanderschmidt83054 жыл бұрын
will you still try to fix the current one? Couldnt you not just fill the holes with epoxy resin and then glue the case on?

This has convinced me that my next phone will be a folding phone.

Hang on... Was that a Volante Design jacket you had on at the 5:40 mark?

I really like you videos, there have something what is pretty often missing by other people. When you talk it feeling real, hard to describe. Insurance is great, if you are clumsy and have a new phone. In my case, i ordered a new V30 some days ago set it up and put i back in the box. Currently using a another V30. BTW.. Your Videos When Phones was fun is a old standard, remind me about my Sony Ericsson K750i & K850i time. Keep your style, it's unique, this natural authentic results in coolness is great. Best regards from Germany.

What's your take on the Huawei Mate XS? Been rocking it for 4 months with Google Services working and it's a pretty outstanding daily driver.

That’s why I go caseless at home only (which is most of my time nowadays anyway so mostly a caseless experience still 😀). Would never dare to do it going outside
