Looks nice but.... strangely enough I still prefer the black date wheel. A bit like the new hands you've put on, it sort of give a bit more "bite" to the orange of the dial, I feel. Anyway it's a fantastic watch as it is and you've made an equally fantastic new slightly different one out of it. I'm thinking mine will be my "official number 1 watch for my summer holidays"!

Nice job with the repair/mod. I have a fair bit of experience with mechanical stuff, mostly automotive, but I don't have much experience tearing into watches. I wouldn't think it should have been that tight. I'm wondering what was binding. Maybe that extra thick dial edge got slightly cattywampus in assembly?

Nicely done, funny how with the black hands the indices surrounds seem to take on a darker hue too, I thought it might stand out but it looks good, the white date wheel should have been fitted by San Martin, schoolboy error.

Great recovery on that watch. For me, the watch is ok, but that bracelet!!! I'd get the watch just for the bracelet. The black date wheel needed to go. Great job on the end result!

Great video - Well Done. - the white date wheel-black hands change is down to preference I guess .. but one feature I do dislike is the 'shark' on the crown. I just bought the last orange one left on "Ali" and am getting excited waiting for it to meander down to NZ. Maybe I'll grind-off the shark & re-polish .. if I can be bothered? - FULL REVIEW ?? That's a very cool watch, the bracelet looks gorgeous. I think I prefer the original hand set just because they are polished metal and pair up nicer with the polished metal indices rather than the matt black. Great job with the mod though the date looks much nicer now in white. I have a Seiko Orange Monster 2nd Gen and one thing that did bother me was the hands are matt black and the raised indices were like a shiny black metal, but I don't really notice unless the light hits it just right. Thanks for the great video, I laughed so hard with the "tease it" cuts when you were modding it! :D

Good save there mate, although I think the hands, especially the minute hand are a little too small for my tastes. I would snap this watch up right away if it came with the white date wheel!

Great video 👍 . I think it is brilliant that you admitted breaking the watch, it looks too easy on some videos. There is nothing like the panic when a Vostok second hand pings off and I daren't move in case I stand on it 😂. The white date wheel looks much better, but I did prefer the San Martin hands.

Hi, without dismantling it, it's hard to prove. The feel of the bezel though is better than the seikos it's paying homage to, and they have a proper bezel ratchet spring. Hope this helps.

Nice salvage job right there. San Martin expected the black variant to be the main seller I guess, so they put the black wheel on. Turns out they put the hottest looking orange dial watch out there as well. My suspicion is it outsells the black one. I will get the orange one for sure sometime this year. The black date wheel adds to its quirkiness, so against what some people say I still prefer the black date.

It looks like the chapter ring and the dial is integrated. If that is the case, there would be no way to replace it with a 3rd party dial. Please confirm.

They do seem integrated, but it would require careful measurements to see if the same thing could be replicated with aftermarket parts.

@@watchmewithwatches After closer inspection, looks like San Martin glue the chapter ring to the dial. Dial and Chapter ring is not 1 piece. The chapter ring has OD. of 31.25mm, ID of 27.0mm and a height of 2.5mm. Not sure why seiko would not use the same manufacturing process as it would reduce misalignment of chapter ring to dial.

Its a good thing the NH35 is everywhere, affordable, and reliable. I like the watch and the white date wheel is a improvement but I'm not a fan of the new hands. I think they're more suited for a pilot's watch. They look too small on that S.M.
