Seems like it was just from the box and did not got all required tech manipulations. That is more service problem, than quality. They forgot to adjust clutch.
@fuglbird5 ай бұрын
This was standard procedure when riding a Moto Guzzi 850 California T3 in the eighties. You wouldn't like to push a 327 kg motorcycle 5 miles. I got quite good at riding through Aalborg and Aarhus without stopping. The clutch failed frequently until we did a complete rebuild and modified it. No need to say that I have a Japanese motorcycle now.

I was very happy that it happened to me on a light bike and not a big heavy one. Saying that this did feel heavy up hill.
@Karl36425 ай бұрын
You can ride a bike (or drive a car) and change gear without a clutch, you just have to match the gear changes to the engine revs / vehicle speed up and down the gearbox and they should just pop in with a bit of persuasion. With a car you have to hope the starter motor can get you started and going in first. With a bike you can take a run up to get it rolling in neutral, jump on, then drop it into first.

I feel your pain, I once pushed a gpz500s 3 miles after it broke down on a roundabout, never again. My issue was bad petrol and was fine once I drained the petrol and cleaned all the filters and carbs. Now I have breakdown cover.

This is an absolute shame. But agree with the other commentator that it seems a service/build issue not quality. Although having said that, I have heard the bike is not clutch happy at lower speeds.

It will be. Whoever put it together didn’t do it properly. I actually would love to try one again. Unfortunately though Appleyard’s ignore all of my emails now. 🤷♂️ so a re-try seems unlikely

First thing i'd have checked would've been that other end. Probably could pull w/ pliers and put it back in. Those crimp-ends can come off too. Reckon it hadnt been adjusted correctly and was too loose.

@bigyin.77105 ай бұрын
You checked the cable at the lever, did you check the cable at the other end? I was wondering why you only used 1st gear when it had a quick shifter and didn't knock it into neutral before you stopped. Did you video any conversation with the dealer?
@GillyBikes5 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I didn’t check the cable at the other end. it felt like it had snapped. I’d only been riding it for a few minutes so I just went on auto pilot to get back to the dealership as quickly as possible. I was panicking a bit because I didn’t have much time left before I had to head home to pick my kids up. I didn’t record any conversation with the dealer. when I got back and told the sales guy in there they sent the mechanic out who fixed it quickly. What I was told was the wire had just slipped out. They said it was a real bitch to get on and difficult to get off so they couldn’t understand how it had happened. It was a quick fix but because it took me a while to get back there I didn’t have any time left to jump back on.

I had the previous version of the Svartpilen 401 and it was the worst bike I’ve ever owned. I bought it new and after a few hundred miles it kept cutting out. The dealer couldn’t resolve the problem and eventually they took the bike back. From my experience (and maybe yours), these bikes are utter crap!

I had the old 125 and I now have the new 125, both of them are perfect especially for a learner. I just dont think its a good idea to be in such a high gear all the time in town though, these singles love low gears and the revs being stretched out properly, that's where these bikes shine especially with peak torque at 7.5k
@harshadsubhash5 ай бұрын
I believe it is the dealer issue. Whenever you handover a new bike to test ride or sell, pre delivery insp3ctions are necessary. When it is a test vehicle, it becomes even more important, 'cause test riders often happen to beat the sh** out of such products. These mean 390s are very dependable in harsh environmenta like India...I definitely don't think it is brand issue...finally, guess it was a rainy day for you afterall... 😂😂😂
