As a Youngling, it’s a good design but the engine sounds like a bunch of bees being whacked. The Enfield is smoother and the triumph is better built. I’d choose the Guerrilla as well, specifically in the Blue Paint job.

I had the 2019 model as my first bike (before it got stolen 😢). Mine had an Akrapovic exhast, it got rid of the tinny sound and gave it a much deeper tone. I had a lot of fun and used it to commute upto Bedford from London everyday with ease on some back lanes when I felt like having some fun! I got a fair bit of attention and questions from non-bikers more than bikers surprisingly. The newer models seem to add more and more that I'm not liking. I'll leaning towards the Royal Enfield as my next bike, as I have a much shorter commute to work, but I also dont want it getting stolen again 😅

I purchased this bike after a long test ride on the Triumph 400x and Mew Himalayan. I got the 401 for £4990. It was cheaper, faster, lighter and had much better suspension than both of those bikes. I was blown away how much better it was than the other two as I had fully committed in my mind to the Triumph. It does sound rubbish though and the looks are marmite. I also loved the quick shifter which was essentially a free extra compared to the other two. So far I am loving the bike and at 47 I am oldish and I down sized 😂

Hi all! The screen going yellow at 7000rpm happens only till first 1000 miles( till first service). It is there to warn the rider to not rev it past 7000 during run in period. After 1st service you can set 2 different types of flashes at 2 different rpm level as per your liking or not have it at all. I own the bike in India and we benefit from not having the power restrictions for license tiers and it produces 46-47 bhp here, however we don’t get the IMU unit, only the Duke gets it here. I’ve been loving riding the bike and it’s absolutely adaptable due to dual nature of the engines power delivery and comfortable due to its adjustable suspension. Another note on the RE Guerrilla, due to not so ideal road conditions in India the suspension feels very unsettled here. The bike jitters and skips about a lot and never feels composed leading to making the bike feel not confident and uncomfortable. However the Triumph and the KTM/Husky feel very sophisticated and compliant. The Guerrilla has quite a nice engine but the chassis and suspension just does not match up to it. Husky & Triumph feel like a better package with better built and higher quality components.

(essay alert) I own the 125cc version of this bike so I can add some detailed info on this bike and some experience riding it. The 125cc Svartpilen is identical to this bike, just without the adjustable suspension damping or lean sensitive traction control (and a smaller engine obviously), but is £1000 cheaper at £4000 new (might be a little less at some dealers). This is my first ever bike and I have been riding it for a couple of months after completing my CBT. My reasoning for buying it was the scrambler style, and it's one of the nicer 125s on the market. I use it for commuting every day to work, and I'm starting to go further afield on the weekends into the Peak District. I want to do a little greenlaning, nothing serious, maybe do some motocamping and such, so a scrambler bike was what I was after. This is one of the only (decent, not Chinese) 125 scramblers on the market right now, although strictly speaking it's not designed for offroad (even though it has Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres as standard) the manual states that breakdown or use offroad is not covered by warranty, nor the added breakdown cover service that comes with the bike new (and can be extended for several years as long as the bike is serviced at a Husqvarna dealer). Royal Enfield or Triumph don't make 125s for the UK so I didn't get one for my first bike lol. If I was to pick between the Svartpilen 401, Triumph Scrambler 400X, and the Royal Enfield Guerilla as a second bike, I would probably go for the 401 as it has the most tech features for the price, and I'm already used to the 125, which rides very similarly to the 401 as it also has a very revvy engine. There is also the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 which is the same bike just with sporty road tyres and bodywork styling, the Svartpilen is the 'Urban Scrambler' style version while the Vitpilen is the roadster style. Just a quick rundown of the features: Adjustable lean sensitive traction control; Adjustable lean sensitive ABS; Switchable on/off rear ABS (supermoto mode); Quickshifter as standard; Adjustable RPM shift light (after the first service), has two rpm levels for flashing and solid yellow; Customisable TFT display - 4 customisable info sections e.g. trip distance, fuel range, MPG calculated number etc, also the info on display can be made simpler or more detailed; Tripper navigation through the app (maps are downloaded to the phone so it runs offline and is not google maps based); Phone connectivity allowing music playlists, answering phone calls, controlling the phone app through handlebar controls; Backlit handlebar controls (looks sexy AF at night); Adjustable rebound and compression upside down 43mm diameter 150mm travel fork; Adjustable rebound and preload 150mm travel rear shock, side mounted; All LED lights; 180mm ground clearance; 820mm seat height (I'm 5'9 with a 29'' inseam and fit it fine); 13.5l fuel tank, on the 125 this gives a big range, I have done over 400 miles on a tank once (around 100-110 mpg average on 125cc); Customisable speed limiter, (this is really mainly useful on the 125 when learning, not sure where else it would be used); 44hp on the 401, 14.5hp on the 125; 159kg (401), 151kg (125) dry weight; 17'' Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres; Electronic immobiliser; Husqvarna Mobility Service, essentially breakdown cover that comes with the bike. In terms of technical specs, the Svartpilen 401 wins hands down between these three bikes, except the Guerilla can have a GPS map display on the TFT while the Svartpilen only has tripper directions. Stats on paper don't always translate to the best overall bike though, and personal taste with how the bikes looks. Personally I like the Svartpilen the most out of the three (note the exhaust fitted in this video is a £600 extra, and the stock underbelly exhaust looks and sounds better imo) but I agree it could be improved with a tail tidy (£272 extra for the Husqvarna one, yes the official parts are expensive). The thing is I would probably not buy any of these bikes for my second bike, personally I am looking at the Royal Enfield Scram 411, or hopefully the Scram 440 which is an improved version of that bike rumoured to release around January. I actually don't want any of this tech on my next bike at all lol. I want something simple that I can maintain and service myself; neither the Guerilla, 400X or Svartpilen fit that criteria. I mainly got the 125 Svartpilen because it's one of the nicer 125s, but I will probably sell it within the year.
@ivolearnАй бұрын
i also rode the svartpilen 125. Liked the experience on the motorway. Very stable compared to my Brixton Cromwell 125. But I really appreciated also the agility of the Brixton in corners and the small turning cycle. The maintenance of a simple air cooled machine is also much cheaper. You save 400€-600€ a year by doing lots of things for yourself like valves, oil, brakes, air filter. Thats why the scram is an excellent choice. However the scram has no center stand.
@BordpieАй бұрын
@@ivolearn Doing my own maintenance is one of my reasons for looking at the scram. I have recently had to fix the indicators on the Svartpilen. It rained really hard for a couple of days while my bike was parked outside and water got into the electrical space for the indicators, corroding the contacts. I had to take the whole handlebar unit apart to get the indicator switch out, which takes a good 15 minutes, but I at least got it sorted. I would much rather do it myself and be safe on the road than wait and pay for repairs. I have also had a couple of custom laser cut stainless steel parts made to lock my helmet to the bike. I believe a centrestand can be mounted to the scram, it just isn't fitted as standard.

The Vitpilen 701 was my first modern motorcycle after riding vintage Hondas for my three previous bikes and it was like night and day, light-years better than the Nighthawk 650SC, CX500 and CL360 that I owned before it. As far as the functionality of it's gas tank, it was the perfect fit for my legs and made squeezing the tank far more natural than a traditional teardrop tank ever did for me. It definitely serves a performance function to match the looks. As far as the three you've mentioned, it's a toss up between a 'pilen 401 and a Triumph Speed 400 followed by the Enfield. I just prefer a more engaging ride and that's not something any Enfield I've ridden has delivered for me.

Another great video. I'm not in the market for a smaller bike nor am I a young person at 58, but I think this is a more attractive option than the Triumph or the Royal Enfield. I disagree with the Old Man: I consider styling to be an imporant factor to a bike's appeal, and if we didn't have these bold new designs, every bike would still look like every bike that came out between the last two world wars. In particular, the stubby tail with the back-reaching fender and the tank projections give the Svartpillen a crouched, forward-leaning stance - like a cat ready to pounce. In comparison, the Triumph and Guerilla look toy-like and cartoon-esque to me. I say I'm not in the market, but who knows what a test ride might do...? Thanks guys!

I love it, you can't find a better looking 125 and I get countless compliments on it from other bikers when I expect to get poked fun at instead. That said, when it comes to upgrading after my test, I'd be looking towards the Triumph Speed 400 over this. I'm not going to be hairing it around places so I want that character that a modern classic provides - the pricetag a useful thing too. This just feels like it's trying to be a bit much, I like a big headlight but find the large lens and screen combo a bit garish and like the Ol man says, the rear end clashes with the number plate extension. Bike could sound better too, I can look past it on a 125 (as it's technically a hairdryer) but you need to step up the game once the cc increases and I feel like Husqvarna could do a little better here. Love the display and the metallic naked look but not for me!

Not many other machines have this, so the comparison became difficult to avoid! Are the bikes aimed at the same "early riders"? This looks, on closer inspection, like a "badge engineering" exercise? My own opinion is the "Husky" has looks only a mother would love! On the "801" the extra size allows the dramatic styling to "flex" somewhat. On the smaller "401" the styling overwhelms the bike! It is a more "challenging" bike to look at! DYNAMICALLY, I prefer the slightly longer wheelbase and relaxed rider triangle of the Husky, where the KTM Duke 390 was quicker, sharper, almost CHOPPY, requiring a more sporty "frame of mind" to enjoy! Good test video, but some interesting and potentially important info (KTM links) missed out! IF you could girt some other content creators together for a COLLABORATIVE PIECE, I'd suggest a 400cc-450cc single WEEKEND MEETUP, and each bring a different bike from this segment to the party, to illustrate the overall practicality of such bikes! Load up with a pup-tent, sleeping bag and overnight bag, a couple of deposable BBQs and some food, and some eating tinware (plates and cutlery)and meet up in the Peak District somewhere to show how much fun can be had on a single cylinder bike! I might suggest the format goes something like this? Each content creator shows him/herself packing up the bike and setting off for the meeting point. Each then gives a brief overview of the bike and shows a selection of roads used to "get there" with any "points of interest" the bikes show up on that journey, such as ability to carry luggage, security of that luggage, and how the luggage carrying affects performance. This can be edited down into a 5 minute block, for each contributor. Once at the site, HILARITY ENSUES as the tents are erected and meals prepared. "Around the fire" over the inevitable beers, friendly comparisons made. NEXT MORNING, leaving the camp for a "ride out" the group can swap bikes (?), finding some interesting locations for "visuals" along the way, spending the day comparing each other's bikes, arriving back at the campsite for another "round-up" of insights into the day's rides. The final morning over breakfast, the group can deliberate on whose bike brought to the party was best, and if ANY "Alternatives" on the market MIGHT have been missed? I'd watch it! I'm pretty sure thousands (across all of the contributors channels) would watch it too, and the introduction of other channels to the community would also "spread the good vibes"! Having the contrasting opinions of others available, also prevents "echo chambers" forming on each channel! By sharing content and collaborating, you guys will get a lot from this! Other content providers do it with HUGE success, and popularity, even if the viewing figures don't always show it! Once you have the main framework of the video with all the main content in place, SHARE that video back to the content provides to ADD their own narration, and side pieces, to create their own perspectives. Then co-ordinate a mass upload of the video on the same day! The viewing figures won't be spectacular, on each separate channel, but COMBINE THOSE FIGURES and you'll see they become quite impressive!

I just want more affordable alternatives to the Himalayan 450 now. Off road capable bikes that aren't dualsports.

@@KarlOlofsson .More affordable than a Himalayan? .......You'll be asking for bike manufacturers to PAY YOU to take their bikes soon! I agree, the new "Himmy" is a little more expensive than the older 411cc air cooled version, but it's STILL a lot of bike for the money! As for "off road capable bikes" ....ALL BIKES are off road capable, if you know how to ride them! The places I have been on a 750cc cruiser bike with shaft drive, loaded and 2-up, would curl your hair! (30miles into the desert!) Appropriate tyres and appropriate speed are the secrets to a "go anywhere" attitude!

Just FYI the official Husqvarna Tankbag that's specifically designed to fit that plastic bit (if you look carefully it actually has 3 metal plates incorporated in it as you can't magnetise to the plastic bodywork) costs £181. Yes official Husqvarna parts cost a lot.

Ever thought about KTM's cheese cam issues may affect these bikes as well plus service costs? I have been interested in Vitpillen/Svartpillen for a long time but added a classic350 next to my Griso eventually. I'd probably prefer the Scram411 design a lot more I think Pierre Terblance did a great job on it and altough it is more Lego style it seems like a better unit over the Guerilla. The Scram would have been a nice bike with water cooling. And it's big.

I have the Svartpilen 200, here in the Philippines. Which is a first gen bike, the 401 you have there is a second gen. On mine, the piece on top of the tank on that, is a tank rack, and I use it to attach my tank bag. No idea why they didn't keep that. They went with a side mounted shock on the new one, in order to lower the seat height a little. At a guess, to make it a little more accessible to Asian riders. The first gen has a horrible tail hugger for the number plate. Getting rid of that, at least in my book, can only be a be a good thing. Even if the new tail isn't perfect.

In my opinion, Husqvarna have simply gone and destroyed a perfect motorcycle with their latest Svartpilen generation. The 2020 was a downgrade on the original Svart but this... is just annoying. Especially now that this niche is full of competition, which was certainly not the case 6 years ago. I've been riding my 2018 401 for three years now and don't reckon I'll sell it anytime soon - I love this toy to bits. Yes, I am on the lookout for a second bike, but that will certainly not be replacing my Svart; just adding to the stable. Why not? Well because the old Svart is just a proper scrambler, both on and off road; looks and sounds the part; and is super agile. The new 401 looks ridiculous, and the 801 just can't seem to make its up mind at all on what it is. For a while, I was considering trading up to a 2024 801 until I test rode one... I can absolutely understand what people don't like about current Svarts, and all I can say is that newer does not necessarily mean better.

I much prefer the look of the older generations. It lost the neo-retro style in favor of more agressive and generic lines. It looks like a black KTM. I'd rather go for a used 701 Vitpilen instead of one of these new models, but I'm also happy with my 2022 Svart.

It's not that young people aren't into bikes I think it's to do with the price of getting your licence. They need there car license first and that costs a fortune so a bike licence takes the back burner . How many mods do you need to ride a bike now . What a load of bollocks. It's never been so difficult to past your test now and it costs a packet but driving in general is going down in standards big time so it's not Improving things it's just designed to rip you off . Everything now costs a fortune. Feel sorry for young people who just want to past there test . They can't afford it so they just steal bikes now . Loads of stolen bikes getting ridden around Leeds now . The system dos not work . Make motorcycling cheap like it use to be .

Hi Guys, I (M23) had the previous generation of Svartpilen as my first bike. It was an awsome bike for me, light, agile, good looking and fast. Personally I'm not a fan of the styling of the new bike, however it seems that many of the other properties have been preserved. I have now moved to a Royal Enfield Interceptor.
@93mlo3 ай бұрын
How's the interceptor in terms of performance compared to the 401? I have a 2023 and I like the look of the interceptor and the Continental GT I might switch later
@ezekielwillmott97353 ай бұрын
@@93mlo, it's such a different bike that it's hard to compare. The 401 is faster 0-100, the quick shifter is addictive and awsome. The 650 is more planted and feels more confident in a corner. At highway speeds it doesn't get blown around, it still has plenty of power and isn't revving its head off. They are both awsome bikes. If I could afford both Id keep the 401 for racing between traffic lights and lane filtering. I'd have the interceptor for country roads and day trips away. Commuting on every day the 401 being lighter and more agile in traffic was definitely nice.
@MrDarcy-OlMan2 ай бұрын
I’d say the Interceptor feels substantially more meaty; it has way more torque. The 401 is like a 50cc up to 4000rpm then like a chainsaw above.

Same here bro. I would say test drive the 3 bikes. 1. I would say Guerilla isn't up to these other two with features, but if you are into RE reputation go for it will not be a disappointment. 2. But if you are really open to machine power Triumph and 401 offer good options. So both are identical and different riding experience but you can get a Clarity after test ride. 3.Personally unique design is a big x factor, coz both bikes have a great character, but 401 design is unique and futuristic. You have to be bold to buy that and answer hundreds about why your bike is like that. On the other hand Triumph is a much safer option. But if you are touring guy who wants to go for rides greater than 200km every weekend, i would say 401. 4. But as we are at year end, I am waiting for Brixton and next year Husqvarna with stock tubeless (if they ever come).
