For someone on a tight budget, swapping one of these Dell systems that doesn't require a bunch of weird connectors from the PSU to a new case is smart. Not only can you use a full sized GPU, but you can also drop in an ATX PSU to power it, giving you the option to use 8-pin power connectors. Then you just have to watch the used marketplaces for a sweet GPU and you're set. Plus, it looks a lot better than the Dell case.

I love building the SwaptiPlex (Optiplex in a modern case). For those hunting, you can also use an old Dell XPS which comes with a more standard board and the power supply is usually 450-550W with PCIe so you don't even have to buy a new power supply.

I have an optiplex 9020, but they told me that I have to buy an adapter for the power supply to be able to change it to another case, the problem I have apparently is that I will not have the front panel or power button because it is not compatible

Great video! I'm planning on doing a build like this. Currently, I'm planning to get: OptiPlex, CPU cooler, GPU, HDD, NVME SSD, 16 GB ram, and case. do I need any adapters or other parts?

You'll need a CPU cooler adapter, and if your GPU needs external power, it's best to get a new power supply. Also, most cheaper Optiplex models don't support NVMe SSDs, so you'll need a SATA SSD instead of an HDD. But if you want to play it safe, you could just buy a cheaper prebuilt from Amazon, like the ones I’ve shown in some of my other videos.

Will this pc be enough for streaming roblox? And is the ram ddr3 or ddr4?

Actually it is capable of streaming, but for that, you’ll have to lower the game settings and the stream settings in obs studio or whatever platform you’ll use to stream to Twitch/KZbin/etc. I’ve tried it before. Also it’s ddr3 ram for this build. I also have some other budget build videos a little higher end if you wanna check them out.

1:00 that's not anything about the hard drive or lack thereof; PXE means Preboot Execution Environment, meaning network boot. It's failing that because you don't have it connected with Ethernet to a server from which to load the operating system. Literally no one does unless they go out of their way to do it, I've never tried to set this up so I don't know what's involved. Booting over the network would be slow, anyway, even with a 1Gbps link. It might be about the same speed as an HDD, but slow compared to an SSD.

In the past I've bought magnetic dust filters on Amazon and used for making i/o shields. Definitely better than nothing just hand cut all the ports. I've done a few times and they turned out good. Never had a complaint from customers. 👍

Yeah sure! I can try BR next time, it was an i5 4th gen if I’m not mistaken. Already sold it for $300. Reason I’m so comfortable selling it for that price is because so many companies sell worse around this price on Amazon, eBay, etc. Case alone is $100

This works for almost all of them really you just need to see if the motherboard would line up with the new case, otherwise you can drill new holes in the case or just put a low profile graphics card in the optiplex

Fans like this are useless, the air does not exchange because the suction fans take air from the outside, and the air that the fans introduce comes out immediately.
