Gonna be honest, you’re gonna need a few more DUMP TRUCK loads of sand if you want it to stay pretty and pristine. My grandpa bought a cabin on a lake about 11 years ago, he put 4 dump truck loads of sand down and it was barely enough to cover, also should do a perimeter of cinder blocks all the way around to keep the native dirt from mixing during rain fall. We did 2’ deep all the way around, beach is beautiful as can be. Just a lot of work to save you from having to do any down the road.

6 more truck loads
@JJJOOSSHHH Жыл бұрын
@@fordraven5884 I think 4 would perfect. The other thing is, all of his sand is going to wash away regardless, look at the slope of that hill he dumped the sand on. Should’ve done some ground work before laying any sand down.
@0sopardo Жыл бұрын
gotta agree. 1. it costs a bit more but you should have more sand DELIVERED and dumped then you can rake it where you want it. The sand should be at least 6" deep over filter fabric covering the entire beach and 10' into the water. 2. somebody said to use cinder blocks to prevent erosion. I'd prefer logs and boulders at the edges where the sand meets the grass for a more natural look. 3. dogs, cats and many other animals are going to believe you've made them a litter box. rake, shovel, rake...
@Aethelvlad Жыл бұрын
@@JJJOOSSHHH yup. i had to go in and fix the slope of a mans beach up in northern ontario who was ticketed $10,000 for "polluting the water with an unnatural slope, disturbing spawning". he was on a public lake, they have strict laws that restrict the slope of all residential water fronts. it would be wise to start with their guidelines and work from there, they exist for many good reasons.

What you should do Jon, is armour the outer edge of your beach with like a 4"-6" river stone. With a opening for a walk way onto the beach, of course. It will finish it off and make it look nice. Plus it will reduced the sand washing away from a heavy rain. It will break the water up so it's not as 'destructive', so to speak.

The Aquascape folks have a sand beach section on their large demo pond in front of their HQ building. It looks like there are retention stones in the submerged section to reduce loss of sand to the pond proper. They may have some resources on keeping the emerged and submerged sandy areas a bit more intact over time.

Run your weed cloth into the water and put sand on it for the wading area for the kiddo! The cloth will keep the sand from sinking into the mud.
The weed guard was a good call. You can put boulders, rocks, stones, etc on the shore line to slow the sand flowing into the pond. Also any sand that isn’t on top of the weed guard will work it’s way through the soil pretty quick.

You should figure out how to get some pallets sunk at different depths for the small bait fish and smaller bass. Also bigger rocks and bricks mixed together is amazing for deep structure

Dump trailers are very smart and intuitive. When you first tried to dump it, the trailer realize that is not the correct place to dump to start your beach. Later it realized, he's got a lot of the sand out we might as well go ahead and dump the rest of it. 😏😉

Great beach pond build! You should put some roll up boardwalk strips for a nice walkable walkway. I live at the beach in NJ and our beaches have these boardwalks. Now you have a clean walkway for your kids and makes it so easy to drag a wagon for all of your stuff. Just an idea... Good luck!!

Add a few koi to the pond. Something to watch and feed. They won't compete with the bass, and if they spawn the bass and bluegills will have something to eat.

I don’t know when you are going to be back in Maine but there is a river/ creek called cold creek and it is boiling of small to medium rainbow/ browns/ and brooks. We fish there all the time from the shore and fly fishing would promise you at least 5-10 trout :edit they just stocked it last week

@Joehouse900 Жыл бұрын
I would add different hotspots of vegetation, hydrilla, rock, all around anything you can throw in there to track behavior/patterns and also just see what happens ecologically in and around the pool. I would plant trees or brush on the perimeter to introduce frogs, insects, other critters to add variety for not only the fish but you guys to enjoy, there is so much potential with that pond shit is sick.

I visited some people once who put white sand just in the shallow swim area of their pond. It was AMAZING. You could see right to bottom clear as a bell. I figured Ohio ponds were a bit murky but no its just the muddy bottom. The kids felt so safe in it and you could see little schools of minnows swimming about.

You want to put diamond sand there. They call it DOT sand sometimes. Mason sand is going to get dirty and wash away easier. Should of went to another place.

I watch this guy pull up with a trailer full of sand and my first thought was “this dummy is about to move that sand twice…” I have made that mistake a few times and been the dummy. Move dirt/sand/crushed concrete/mulch/etc as few times as possible. Pull that thang up and push it out with the shovel till you can dump it.
